Mutianyu Great Wall 🚩
Finally got to step on the Great Wall of China.
We chose to go to Mutianyu for the main reason
: we like the 6th fortress on the East side. Looking at the picture, we had to
come here. Another reason is that we wanted to sit on the cable car and dangle our legs
and go back down with the Toboggan. It looked so much fun.
We chose to travel with zanbus because the pick-up point
was near the hotel we booked. It was very convenient to walk to the pick-up point.
Before the travel date, the guide contacted us via wechat
to confirm the pick-up point at Dengshikou Exit C.
We chose the 08:00 round. On the day we went, it took only
about an hour. Unfortunately, it was very dusty.
When we were on the bus, the guide would recommend and ask which side we wanted to go to
West or East or choose to go to West and go to East.
The guide could arrange everything. The price would be different.
Most people on the bus chose the West side, but we chose East.
We would get a paper ticket to use to take the cable car.
Coming in the morning, there was almost no need to wait in line for the bus and cable car. But this side is very steep. From the beginning, just walking to the tower is very tiring.
On the way down, it was lucky. The queue was not long and we got to ride the slide down.
I have to say that it was very fun. I highly recommend it. When we got down,
we still had time to eat and walk around a bit.
Then it was time to go back, around 2:30 PM. The car
would drop us off at the Lama Temple, so we could walk around in this line.
*I regret that there was a lot of dust when I came.
**This set of photos was taken in early November 2024.

Walking Through History: A Day at Mutianyu Great Wall

Visiting the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China was one of the highlights of my trip to Beijing. It’s a quieter, more scenic part of the Wall compared to the popular Badaling section, and it felt like the perfect place to experience both the grandeur and the serenity of this world wonder.
I joined a small group private tour, which made the whole experience smooth and stress-free. Our guide picked us up from the hotel in the morning, and the drive to Mutianyu took about an hour and a half. The early start was worth it—we arrived just after 8:30 AM and beat most of the crowds, which gave us time to explore in peace and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
To get up to the Wall, we had the choice between a cable car or a chairlift. I opted for the cable car, which took us up near Tower 14. From there, we walked along the Wall, taking in sweeping views of the forested mountains and ancient stone towers stretching into the distance. It’s a decent workout—some sections are quite steep—so good walking shoes are a must. The weather was perfect, and the scenery was absolutely stunning.
One of the most fun parts of the day was riding the toboggan down from Tower 6. It was an unexpected thrill and a great way to end the visit on a playful note. There are a few vendors near the base, but it’s a good idea to bring your own water and snacks, especially if you plan to spend a couple of hours exploring.
Overall, Mutianyu felt like the ideal section of the Wall to visit—less touristy, surrounded by natural beauty, and still incredibly well-preserved. If you’re heading to Beijing, I definitely recommend doing it with a small group tour. You’ll get all the historical insight and none of the hassle, plus that toboggan ride is something you won’t forget.

📍Mutianyu Great Wall
Mutianyu is one of the most scenic sections of the Great Wall of China, and autumn (September–November) is the best time to visit.
Here are a few reasons to visit the Great Wall of China during autumn🔻
🍂 Stunning Fall Foliage – The rolling hills around the wall are covered in vibrant autumn colors, making it one of the most picturesque spots in Beijing.
🚠 Cable Car & Toboggan Ride – Take a scenic cable car up for panoramic views and enjoy a fun toboggan ride down!
🚶♂️ Less Crowded – Compared to Badaling, Mutianyu is quieter, allowing for a peaceful hike and photography.
📸 Amazing Views – The watchtowers and winding stone pathways provide postcard-worthy scenes at every turn.

The Great Wall of China 🇨🇳 1,200 baht is a great value.
The first time to the Great Wall of China, Mu Tian Yu. Today, there were very few people. It was easy to take pictures. If anyone wants to come, I recommend this checkpoint. It's easy to walk. We bought a one-day tour. It's not really a tour. It's like they helped us book a car and buy tickets for us. But we each went our separate ways and met at the meeting point. 🚘 💰 The tour we booked cost 1,213 Thai baht (including round-trip transportation from the city to the checkpoint - from the checkpoint up a little further - the morning shift - the entrance fee)
✅ I think this checkpoint is clean ✅ Easy to walk ✅ Not many people ✅ Afraid of heights, quite suitable. I'm afraid too, but taking the morning shift takes about 4 minutes. It looks stable.
❌ Not recommended for wheelchairs

Beijing trip 6D5N
#mutianyugreatwall #forbiddencity #天坛 #universalstudios #pekingduck
Last year-end, I embarked on an unforgettable trip to Beijing, exploring iconic landmarks and cultural gems. At Mutianyu, the Great Wall amazed me with its grandeur and history. The Forbidden Palace left me in awe of its imperial architecture, while 颐和园 (Summer Palace) offered serene lakeside beauty. Universal Studios brought excitement with thrilling attractions, blending perfectly with vibrant street walks, where I discovered local foods. My favorite was Peking duck—I tried two restaurants, 全聚德 and 四季明福, and liked 全聚德 more for its rich flavors. Beijing’s charm, a blend of history, modernity, and culture, created lasting memories.
China is now visa-free. Let's go visit the Great Wall of China.
When China has a "free visa", what are you waiting for? Let's go and visit China.
The first place I wanted to visit and see with my own eyes was the "Great Wall of China".
Yes, we chose to visit the Mutianyu Pass because it was not far from Beijing. It only took about 1.5 hours to get there.
Travel: We chose to use the mubus booking service via trip.com. It was very easy and convenient.
Before the day of the trip, a guide would chat with us on WeChat to inform us of the time and place to get on the bus. We chose the 8 am round trip.
Meeting place: Subway line 2 Dongzhimen station, Exit B1. You will find a guide wearing a red suit waiting.
The round-trip mubus service does not include the cost to go up the Great Wall of China. There are packages to choose from.
Mutianyu Pass has 2 sides: the east side and the west side. You can choose one side or both sides. The service fee is 140¥. You can pay the guide on the bus.
Food: There is also a buffet service from mubus. Or you can choose not to because there are restaurants such as Burger King and Subway open at the pass.
We chose to go up on the east side only because the highlight of this side is the Toboggan, a slide car. It was so much fun.
When we went at the end of March, the weather was cool and comfortable but still sunny. There weren't many people and it was very empty.

Things to know before visiting the Great Wall of China 🇨🇳
Planning a trip to the Great Wall of China? Here’s everything you need to know before you go! 🇨🇳
📌 Save this video for your next trip to China and follow @passportandstamps for more Asia content 🫶
🗓️ Best time to visit: The best months to visit are between March-May and September-November when the weather is milder and the crowds are smaller. Avoid the summer months if you can; it gets HOT! We visited in September, and the weather was perfect, it was a bit chilly, but around midday, it warmed up ☀️
🎟️ Cost: The entrance fee to the Mutianyu section is ¥40 (about £5). The cable car or chairlift will cost you an extra ¥140 (£15) for a return trip. If you purchase the return ticket, you can enjoy the toboggan ride down
🚠 Cable car vs. Chairlift: The cable car is enclosed, making it perfect if you’re visiting during colder months or want a more relaxed ride. The cable car opens at 8.30 AM. The chairlift, on the other hand, is open and offers stunning panoramic views on the way up. If you want to beat the crowds, we recommend the chairlift as it opens at 7.30 AM. We were the first up to the wall, and it was amazing!!
📸 Useful tip: Arrive early! The earlier you get there, the more time you’ll have to explore and enjoy the incredible views without crowds. We took the chairlift up at 7.30 AM and had the most amazing time as no one was around until 10 AM.
🏞️ Pack some water and wear comfy shoes. You’ll definitely be doing a lot of walking. Avoid buying coffee or drinks up to the wall as they are expensive. We stopped for a coffee and regretted that we paid £5 for it 🙈
⁉️ Have you visited the Great Wall of China or is it still on your bucket list? 👇

The Great Wall of China, Mutianyu Pass, Chinese long holiday!!
#GetDiscountsWithoutLuck
I had the opportunity to visit the Great Wall of China at Mu Tain Yu during the Chinese Labor Day holiday.
Let me tell you, there were so many people!!! From the entrance to the cable car line, the line to go up the wall took hours. If you are going during the long holiday, you have to prepare yourself and fight. If you are not a fighter, you may not get in. 555
We chose to take the cable car round trip (140 yuan) because it would not be too tiring and not too scary. 55 The view from the top is really magnificent. You can see the wall stretching along the mountains as far as the eye can see. Every angle you take pictures is beautiful. We were very lucky to go on a clear day. The atmosphere was great.
Transportation: There were many of us, so we called Didi to go. The fare there was 430 yuan. The return fare was 330 yuan from the driver, not through an app.
Food: There are many restaurants and coffee shops on the top, such as Burger King, Mixue, Luckin Coffee, etc.
Conclusion: It is very beautiful and magnificent, worthy of being one of the 7 wonders of the world. But it's better to avoid the Chinese holidays.

It’s your time to visit one of the world’s seven wonders!🤩
Visiting the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China was an unforgettable experience. Unlike the crowded Badaling section, Mutianyu offers a more peaceful, scenic, and immersive journey through history. It’s about a 1.5-hour drive from Beijing, but the trip is well worth it.

Mutianyu Great Wall early Morning on Monday with Busda
#favouriteitinerary ##travelwithkids ##beijing ##travelwithelderly ##greatwall ##mutianyugreatwall
Day 1 - Mutianyu Great Wall & Summer Palace with Busda
i. bus leave early at 7.30am - Meet at 7.20am
ii. Bought the ticket tour at trip.com (inclusive ticket entrance & bus to Mutianyu&Summer Palace & bus shuttle to Mutianyu entrance)
iii. The tour guide will explain everything inside the bus in Mandarin & then in English
iv. the tour guide will buy it the ticket for you if you want to take cable car or chairlift/toboggan slide.
v. We bought both ticket cable car (CNY140/roundtrip) & chairlift/toboggan (CNY140/roundtrip). Kid that want to ride alone, need their own ticket. But for small kid like below 120/110cm, can ride with adult so just need 1 ticket.
Tips: If you are planning to take both Cable car & Chairlift/toboggan, please take chairlift to go up and you will arrive at Tower 6. And later you can go down and take toboggan slide.
Then only you take cable car to go up to tower 20. There will be few stairs to climb if you take cable car to get to tower 20.
When we got down from toboggan slide, we are glad that we took chairlift/toboggan earlier since they were super long lines.
And we got down from cable car, both chairlift/cable car are super long. So if you are planning to take both cable car & chairlift to go to both tower, you might want to consider to arrive early around 9am.
By 1.30pm, we are leaving Mutianyu and go to our 2nd destination which is Summer Palace (so beautiful).
December : Good time to visit Mutianyu Great Wall
It’s took about 1 hours from Beijing city by car. Although some of the people said that December may not a good time to visit great wall, surprisingly this became the best experience for our China trip. Not many people, cold weather.. we can take own sweet time to enjoy this incredible built, took hundreds of photos to keep memories without people in background😊 不到长城非好汉,we are happy that we been here… and will come again… same in December 😁#mutianyugreatwall #december#不到长城非好汉
The Great Wall of China, Mutianyu Pass
#WinterTravel
✨Mutianyu Great Wall✨ is another viewpoint of the Great Wall of China and is a beautiful pass with a tall fortress. It is another AAAAA World Heritage Site in China and is also one of the wonders of the world. The best time to visit is in the summer when the trees are lush and the flowers are blooming. In December, the leaves have all fallen and it is winter. The air is dry and the atmosphere is lonely. The place we went to, we took a cable car up and back. There is a chair to go up and a slide down. If you like which one, try to arrange it.

✨Banh mi cafe and snack✨ A restaurant with beautiful and striking colors, green and yellow, bright, cute cafe with reasonable prices, not too expensive, has a Vietnamese-style banh mi, cool weather, and seating areas inside and outside the shop. I recommend it. If you are hungry after walking through the Great Wall of China and have time before going back, try stopping by this restaurant first.

The Great Wall - Mutianyu
Mutianyu is one of the most popular sections of the Great Wall of China, known for its stunning scenery and well-preserved structure.
It is located about 70 kilometers northeast of Beijing, and it offers both history and breathtaking views. Unlike some other sections, Mutianyu is less crowded, making it a great spot.
The area features a cable car and a sky lift for easy access, as well as hiking trails that vary in difficulty and a toboggan slide.
The wall here is notable for its watchtowers and beautiful natural surroundings, making it a perfect destination for both history buffs and nature lovers.

If this isn’t the most amazing view you’ve ever seen, I don’t know what is!
If you are planning your trip to Beijing, it’s a must for you to visit one of the spots of the famous China Great Wall! It’s absolutely indescribable. The beauty of it is astounding. Even these pictures, which hold a thousand words, could not describe the beauty of this place when you see it!!
This is the Mu Tian Yu part of the Great Wall. I recommend it 10/10!
The price for the tour to get from Beijing centre to the bottom of the mountain was around 150 yuan. Plus 140 yuan for the chairlift up to the actual wall and back.
When you’re up there, you can buy drinks and sweets and spend as much time as you like waking in either direction. Make sure you take your umbrella and a hat to protect yourself from the sun and I would highly suggest wearing something sporty, so that you don’t get sweaty in pants or feel uncomfortable in a dress.
Be sure to bargain with the shop sellers at the bottom of the wall. You can buy clothes, gifts and traditional items for more than half price if you are convincing enough 😉
