Shodoshima Angel Road/Shodoshima One-Day Itinerary You only have two chances a day to walk on the Angel Road. Nearby shops sell ema (wooden plaques), and you can tie them to trees on the connected Oe Island after walking along the Angel Road. Additionally, before heading to the Angel Road, you will pass by souvenir shops where you can send postcards of the Angel Road. (I sent one too, but unfortunately, it was the only postcard I lost from Japan 🤣🤣) The Shodoshima website has a tidal chart for the whole year that you can check. If you are planning a one-day trip, I highly recommend the following itinerary: After arriving at Tonosho Port, head to Angel Road 👉 Olive Park 👉 Kankakei Ropeway (you can also replace the Kankakei Ropeway with another attraction). However, make sure to arrive in the morning to catch the low tide 😆 It takes about half an hour to take photos on the Angel Road. In fact, it is a story about the life of teachers and students in a rural elementary school on Shodoshima Island about a hundred years ago (Showa era). The twenty-four pupils represent the eyes of twelve students. We found this place on the bus trip to Olive Park. To go to the film village, you can take a boat or a bus, and we chose to take the boat. I bought a boat ticket at the tourist center at Olive Navi Pier (Olive Beach) and followed the instructions to the pier (just a place protruding from the sea). There were no signs, and I was wondering if I had found the right place when I saw a small boat coming towards us. It is recommended that you go there by boat. Sitting in a small boat, we sailed on the beautiful Seto Inland Sea. It took less than ten minutes to arrive at the Film Village. As soon as we entered, we saw the filming location built for the movie. There were many old wooden buildings, restaurants, bookstores, souvenir shops, the Japanese Film History Museum, etc. Everyone must enter the school building to take pictures of the scene, there are many beautiful photo spots. In addition, you can see the endless sea outside the school building. There are long wooden chairs and log signs here, which are beautiful for taking photos! If you don't eat or take a lot of photos, you can finish the tour in about an hour. When you plan to go to Olive Park, you can consider coming here before or after. You will definitely be surprised! Tips for you: 1. If you want to take a boat, get off at the Olive Park entrance. The boats are not available in winter and on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It is best to check before departure. 2. I went to Yamaroku Soy Sauce in Shodoshima. ⁡ This place is amazing!! I highly recommend visiting the factory as they are particular about soy sauce ⁡ Established in 1864, this is a long-established store with over 150 years of history Yamaroku Soy Sauce is characterized by its natural fermentation method and aging in wooden barrels. The wooden barrels are made of Yoshino cedar, which activates the microbial activity during the fermentation and aging process, enriching the flavor of the soy sauce. The soy sauce is made using only soybeans, wheat, salt, and water, and no additives are used. It is fermented slowly by natural forces, resulting in a deep flavor and aroma. It will be available for sale in 3 years. ⁡ The large barrels are filled with yeast.
