A Day in Athens – Ruins, Rooftops & Really Good Cake
#cityplaybook
Athens is a city that surprises you—in the best way. One minute you’re standing in front of a 2,000-year-old temple, the next you’re sipping coffee in a trendy café. It’s historic, yes—but also super fun to explore.
The view from the Parthenon? Absolutely stunning. Seeing the whole city stretch out beneath the Acropolis, framed by that deep blue Greek sky, was a serious “wow” moment.
After soaking in the ancient vibes, I wandered into the city’s café scene. My top pick? I CAKE YOU. Cute, colorful, and packed with sweet treats—I may have stayed longer than planned.
In the afternoon, I made my way to the Panathenaic Stadium, home of the first modern Olympics. Standing on that marble track gave me goosebumps—so much history in one place!
Dinner was casual but so satisfying: a cheddar bacon cheeseburger from Goody’s Burger House, a beloved local fast-food spot. Salty, cheesy, messy—in the best way possible.
Why I recommend Athens:
・Where else can you go from ancient temples to dessert cafés in one walk?
・There’s something exciting around every corner—history, food, views, all in one day

Panathenaic Stadium / Kallimarmaro
The Panathenaic Stadium is a hidden gem in Athens that deserves more spotlight. Built entirely of marble, it’s a beautiful and historic site that blends ancient glory with modern Olympic spirit. This is the only stadium in the world made completely of white marble, and you can feel the weight of history as soon as you step inside.
Originally built in the 4th century BC and refurbished in the 19th century for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, the stadium is still used today for ceremonial events like the Olympic flame handover. It’s surreal to sit in the stands where ancient Greeks once gathered, and later, where modern athletes revived the Olympic dream.
You can even run a lap on the track if you want—definitely a cool moment for sports fans. There's also a small exhibit beneath the stands showcasing Olympic torches from past Games, which adds a nice touch.
