There are two cogwheel railways that lead to the summit, one departing from Vitznau on the shores of Lake Lucerne, and the other from Arth-Goldau on the Gotthard line. Arth-Goldau station has direct trains to Zurich, Basel, Lucerne, Locarno, and Milan, but you can only reach Vitznau by boat from Lucerne. Whichever route you choose, the journey to the top of Mount Rigi will be one of the highlights of your trip to Switzerland.
