🧘♂️ The Big Buddha, Phuket — A Peaceful Giant Watching Over the Island
Visiting the Big Buddha in Phuket was one of those experiences that left a quiet mark on me. We made our way up Nakkerd Hill by car, and even before reaching the top, I could see the statue peeking out above the treetops, almost like it was welcoming us.
When we arrived, everything felt calm. The massive white marble Buddha stood tall and serene, completely still yet commanding such presence. Standing at its base, looking up, I felt tiny—but in the best way. It’s one of those places where you just pause, breathe, and take it all in.
Around the base of the statue, there were monks offering blessings, the soft sound of bells, and little golden statues people had dedicated. We took a moment to sit, reflect, and even received a blessing with a string bracelet tied around our wrists—a simple but memorable touch.
But what really took my breath away were the views. From up there, you get sweeping panoramic views of Chalong Bay and the southern coastline of Phuket. It was stunning—ocean, forest, rooftops—it all stretched out beneath us like a painting. Sunset would’ve been magical, but even midday, it was worth every bit of the heat.
A tip if you’re planning to go: go early to beat both the crowd and the sun. It gets really hot up there, and shade is limited. Also, do cover your shoulders and knees—this is a sacred site, and they do provide sarongs if needed.
It wasn’t a long visit, maybe about an hour, but it was meaningful. Peaceful, humbling, and a little spiritual reset. Definitely one of those must-visit spots if you’re in Phuket—not for the ‘gram, but for your soul.
