Arriving in the late afternoon, I walked through winding stone lanes, past traditional Tibetan homes with intricately painted windows and hanging prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. The air was crisp and fresh at this high altitude, and spring brought clear skies and bright light over the golden roofs. The town’s spiritual energy and cultural richness were deeply calming. Despite a fire in 2014 that destroyed part of the old town, much of it has been beautifully rebuilt with attention to heritage. The pace here is slow, inviting you to wander without a plan. Travel Tips: • Best time to visit: Afternoon in spring for warm sunlight and fewer crowds. • Bring an oxygen bottle: The altitude (~3,300m) can affect some visitors. • Spin the prayer wheel: Clockwise, three times — it’s a must-do spiritual gesture. • Try Tibetan butter tea: Found in small cafes with rooftop views. • Photographer’s tip: The hilltop near the prayer wheel offers the best wide-angle town shots. • Dress in layers: It gets chilly even in spring, especially after sunset. I am so grateful to visit this Tibetan temple in Mysore, India. Being in the Namdroling Monastery Golden Temple, I feel peaceful and tranquil. I get to see a lot of art, painting, and sculpture of Tibetan Buddhism. In this trip, I learn about their daily practice and even meditate with them in the morning. After meditation and praying, my friend and I went to the restaurant inside the temple. They serve delicious vegetarian food. I also get to taste the traditional Nepali cuisine, called Laphing. They also serve other Indian food like momos. After lunch, we went to the market beside the temple to buy some local attires, handmade bags, and scarves enveloped with the culture of India. We really have a nice day here. Monks in their crimson robes went about their daily rituals, and the chanting echoed softly through the complex. Climbing to the upper levels offered sweeping views over the surrounding meadows and the small villages dotted below. It wasn’t just a visit to a temple — it felt like touching a living piece of Tibetan heritage. This stunning city is located where Tibet, Sichuan and Yunnan all meet, and create unique culture, feeling, and stunning vibe. It s definitely must explore place. Culture and people are so so so different and happy 😃. You can come there by bus from Lijiang (80rmb a ticket). City, especially ancient town of Dukezong is well organized and gorgeous. Has a lot of restaurants where you can try Tibetian food, bars with live music where you can go out. You can also rent a car and go for a ride around Napa lake. Scenery there is something unique, and it s hard to describe it with words. We stumbled upon this wonderful event by accident. Luckily a kind English speaking guide gave us a complete tour of the exhibition and introduced us to the displayed artwork explaining the history and significance of the motives and illustrations. So if you want to know more, he's probably a better source of information than yours truly but I'll try. Mostly, the works display buddhist motives( from mandalas to Guanyin, the goddess of mercy and Gautama Siddhartha himself), but you can also spot some western ones as well( Van Gogh for example). Other elements include landscapes, animals and every-day people. What is embroidery art? 🪡🧵🖼️ The most basic description of embroidery is the art of using a needle and thread to decorate fabric. You can look at it as stitching traditional culture into light fabric. Tibetan needlework uses silk threads specifically. This is in no way a skill one can develop overnight. It takes years, nay decades to develop and perfect the arts. We spend 2.5 hours on the road to get to Qinghai Lake via Sun-moon mountain, the largest salt water lake of China. There you may feel that the air is so fresh and the sunshine is so warm it makes you feel as if you are in paradise. You can see groups of sheep, yaks, blue sky and white clouds. We dressed up in traditional Tibetan clothing and enjoyed some of the activities they had. The main scenic area we visited was the Erlangjian Scenic Area. We visited Danba, Jiaju and Suopo townships before coming to Zhonglu. All three of the small villages in Danba are super nice and beautiful, danba itself is a bit more of a gateway. However, Zhonglu was definitely our favourite! It's the most tucked away in and on the mountains, very authentic Tibetan and great Guesthouses with amazing foods. There are a ton of footpaths to explore this beautiful village. I would definitely recommend coming here and staying in a Jiaron Tibetan Guesthouse and enjoying the delicious food! 😋#deliciousfood #tibetanculture #mountain
