Sarajevo – a city on three borders. Top 3 beautiful places
Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, located on the border with Croatia and Serbia. The city has a rich history and culture, and is one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in the Balkans. Here are the top 3 places to visit in Sarajevo:
1. Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque.
Adress: Sarači, 8
Opening hours: from 09:00 to 12:00, from 14:30 to 16:00, from 17:30 to 19:00
The mosque is considered the most significant monument of Ottoman rule in Sarajevo. It was built in the 16th century and named after the Sultan's viceroy in Bosnia, under whom the city flourished.
2.Ahmed Pasha Bastion, or Yellow Bastion
Address: Jekovac
Ahmed Pasha Bastion is often called Yellow Bastion, due to the color of the stone it was built from. It is one of the five fortifications of the 18th-century Vratnik fortress in Sarajevo, dating back to the Ottoman Empire. In my opinion, the main value of the bastion is not its architecture, but that it offers one of the best views of the city. Locals and tourists alike come here to admire the sunset.
3.Bezistan Gazi Husrev-beg
Adress: on the corner of Gazi Husrev-begova and Ferhadija streets
In the 16th century, merchants from Western Europe, Africa, and the Middle East came to Sarajevo, and the city was an active trading center. That's when the Gazi Husrev-beg bezistan was built - that's what they called indoor markets. Now it's interesting to come here for the atmosphere of an oriental bazaar, but the assortment is no different from Turkish markets: about the same selection of shiny dishes, lanterns, leather, fur, sunglasses, sweets, coffee, and fakes of famous brands.
To the east of the Gazi Husrev Beg bezistan and the mosque of the same name there is a whole block of intertwined noisy shopping streets with stalls, but the selection there is about the same.
