☕ Early Morning Fuel-Up at Doutor Coffee – Naha Airport
We arrived at Naha Airport bright and early, around 7am, and found most of the shops still closed. Thankfully, Doutor Coffee was already open and ready to welcome sleepy travelers like us looking for a simple breakfast before our flight.
Though it’s nothing fancy, Doutor delivered exactly what we needed—fresh sandwiches, decent cakes, and reliable coffee. I went for a ham and egg sandwich paired with a hot latte. Everything was fresh, warm, and satisfying. The seating area wasn’t huge, but we managed to grab a comfortable spot to sit and relax while watching the airport slowly come to life.
Not a destination cafe by any means, but if you need a fuss-free breakfast spot early in the morning, Doutor hits the mark.

🛍️ Snack, Sip & Shop at Okashigoten Kokusai Street Matsuo!
While exploring Kokusai Street, we dropped by Okashigoten Matsuo Branch—and I must say, it’s a fantastic one-stop spot for local Okinawan souvenirs. Rows and rows of beautifully packaged local snacks lined the shelves. From sweet potato tarts to black sugar cookies, there was no shortage of goodies to bring back home. What I liked most was that you could actually sample many of the items before buying—definitely a plus when you’re unsure what to choose!
There’s a small factory located at the back of the shop, so the snacks are incredibly fresh. While the rest of the family was on a shopping spree, I took a short break at the in-house café. Many of the shop’s popular snacks were available to enjoy right there, paired with drinks. I ordered a small selection of pastries and had them with a cup of coffee. It was a peaceful and delicious moment in the midst of our busy itinerary.
If you’re in Naha and looking for a comfortable spot to shop, snack, and relax—this place checks all the boxes. I could’ve easily spent an hour just browsing and sipping.

😋 Freshly Fried & Full of Fun at Calbee+ Kokusai-dori, Okinawa!
While strolling down Kokusai Street in Naha, we came across Calbee+—a bright, cheery little snack shop that caught our attention with its vibrant signage and unmistakable potato aroma. We’re already big fans of Japanese snacks, so we had to step in and check it out.
We were immediately drawn to the freshly fried sweet potato sticks—crispy outside, soft inside, and lightly sweet. Honestly, they were so addictive! I loved the mix of regular and purple sweet potato—they gave the snack a unique Okinawan twist. We also tried the salt soft serve made with Okinawan sea salt. That balance of salty and sweet was unexpectedly good, especially in the hot weather.
Inside the shop, there were so many exclusive Calbee snacks you can’t find outside Okinawa. The packaging was super cute, and we grabbed a few souvenirs for friends. It’s not a huge shop, but service was prompt and the staff were friendly.
This is definitely a fun and tasty stop if you’re visiting Kokusai-dori. Whether it’s a quick treat or snack shopping spree, Calbee+ hits the spot!

🥩 Hidden Gem for Shabu Shabu Lovers – Ganaha-Butanikuten Kafuna Asahibashi
We made our way to Ganaha-Butanikuten at Kafuna Asahibashi after hearing about its reputation for high-quality meats—and it didn’t disappoint. This place is a true hidden gem, especially if you’re into shabu shabu.
We tried the famous Ishigaki wagyu beef and Agu pork from Yanbaru Island, both known for their rich marbling and premium taste. The moment the thin slices hit the broth, they cooked to perfection almost instantly—tender, juicy, and packed with umami. What I loved most was how the shabu shabu method really preserved the natural sweetness of the meats, especially the Agu pork, which had a melt-in-your-mouth texture.
The staff was polite and helpful, guiding us through the best way to enjoy each meat. The dipping sauces were great, but honestly, the meat was so flavorful on its own that you didn’t even need much else.
Simple setup, but amazing quality—if you want to try some of Okinawa’s finest meats in their purest form, this spot is worth seeking out.

🦐 Market-to-Table Delight at Makishi Public Market
Our lunch experience at Makishi Public Market was one to remember. We kicked things off on the first floor, picking out fresh seafood right from the local stalls — everything from vibrant cuts of sashimi-grade fish to a whole sea bream that caught our eye. The vendors were warm and welcoming, making the selection process easy and enjoyable.
We brought our ingredients up to the second level where the real magic happened. The chefs there turned our picks into a delicious spread. The fresh sashimi was clean, sweet, and beautifully plated — every slice a bite of the ocean. We also had stir-fried bitter gourd with spam, a local Okinawan favourite. The bitterness was mellow and balanced well by the savoury spam. A comforting dish, especially with rice.
Another standout was the prawns with eggs — silky and rich, yet not overly heavy. But the showstopper was definitely the sea bream. Cooked Chinese-style — deep-fried to a crispy golden crust and then finished with soy sauce — it was both flavourful and aromatic.
Eating upstairs with our custom meal, we really felt immersed in Okinawan food culture. Fresh, interactive, and full of flavour — this was not just a meal, but an experience.

🌊 Late Lunch Bliss at Umikaji Terrace Senagajima
We spent a relaxed late afternoon at Umikaji Terrace on Senagajima, a charming seaside complex perched cliffside, and stumbled upon a cozy ramen shop for lunch. The setting was unbeatable—stunning ocean views, gentle sea breeze, and sunshine casting a warm glow across the white-washed shops. It felt like the perfect spot for a family bite after exploring.
The ramen was served piping hot and hit the spot after a breezy stroll. The broth was rich and comforting, and the noodles had that ideal bounce that makes every slurp satisfying. My kids loved customizing their bowl with toppings, and everyone tucked in happily. Portions were generous, just right for sharing among little ones and adults alike.
Beyond the ramen, the layout of Umikaji Terrace itself was a hit—winding pathways, Instagram-worthy shops, and plenty of spots to linger with a coffee or ice cream. Easy parking and accessible pathways made it a hassle-free experience with strollers and grandparents in tow.
All in all, this lunch stop was a highlight of our day. Delicious ramen, breathtaking views, and a calm, family-friendly vibe—Umikaji Terrace checked all the boxes.

🥩 Steakhouse 88 Motobu: Come for the Buffet, Not Just the Beef
We decided to try out Steakhouse 88 in Motobu during our Okinawa trip, drawn in by its reputation and convenient location. The restaurant is easy to find, and there’s ample parking, which is always a plus when traveling as a family.
We ordered their steak sets, and while the beef was decent, it wasn’t anything to rave about—just average and didn’t quite meet the expectations we had from a place known for steaks. However, what really made our visit enjoyable was the buffet line that came with our meal.
The buffet had a great variety of side dishes, salads, and local flavors. Everyone in the family found something they liked, and it felt like the buffet was the real star of the experience. The kids loved the curry rice and fried items, while we enjoyed the pickled vegetables and fresh salad options. It was a satisfying addition that made the meal feel more complete and definitely worth the visit.
Service was friendly and efficient, and the dining environment was relaxed and welcoming, perfect for families. While the steak may not have wowed us, the overall experience—especially the buffet—made it a pleasant stop during our trip.

🍽️ Shirasa Shokudō – Local Delights with a View
My visit to Shirasa Shokudō was a highlight of the day. Perched with an expansive ocean view, the restaurant felt like a peaceful retreat as I enjoyed some of the freshest Okinawan fare I’ve had. The sea grapes (“umi budo”) were a refreshing starter—they popped with a slightly salty, briny burst that paired perfectly with the breeze off the water.
I opted for several local dishes: tender fried fish, comforting bowl of Rafute (Okinawan braised pork belly), and some crisp vegetable sides. The flavors were authentic and unpretentious—exactly the kind of food that tells the story of the island’s culinary heritage.
Sitting by the window, everything from the view to the gentle hum of conversation made the experience feel extra special. The staff were warm, and though the menu was all in Japanese, they guided me through each dish with enthusiasm and simple English.
Whether you’re craving genuine-rustic Okinawan flavors or just want to eat with a stunning seascape backdrop, Shirasa Shokudō delivers a satisfying, soulful meal.

🍙 Last Bite of Okinawa: Pork Tamago Onigiri at Makishi Market
Before leaving Japan, we made one final foodie stop—and it had to be Pork Tamago Onigiri at Makishi Market. This humble little kiosk is famous for serving one of Okinawa’s most iconic comfort foods: a warm slab of spam, fluffy egg, and rice wrapped in seaweed. It sounds simple, but it hits differently here.
The kiosk was small and bustling with both locals and tourists—always a good sign. Despite the crowd, service was fast and efficient. We grabbed a few onigiri to enjoy on the go, and as soon as I took that first bite, I knew I’d miss it dearly. The contrast of savory spam, soft tamago, and perfectly seasoned rice just works.
It’s not just food—it’s a memory wrapped in nori. If you’re flying out of Okinawa soon, trust me, this is the send-off meal you’ll want. Already craving it again!

With pastel-toned buildings, neon-lit streets, and an atmosphere that feels part beach town, part theme park, this coastal hub is one of Okinawa’s most photogenic and energetic spots.

This time I went to the Okinawa Motobucho store to buy it. There were fewer people than the Kokusai-dori store. This time I ordered fried shrimp and pork flavors, both were very delicious!! The fried shrimp was fried just right, and the pork flavor was not too salty or greasy, and the saltiness was just right overall. Unfortunately, it was close to dinner time so I didn't order other flavors~
🍙 Fried shrimp tartar sauce ¥650
🍙 Grilled ginger pork ¥850
[Transportation method🚘]
Go by car
[Suggestions from Wen]
If you are on the way to or from Churaumi Aquarium, you can buy it here, otherwise you may have to queue up at the Kokusai-dori store~
