Where Two Worlds Collide – My Visit to the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba
#summervacay #MosqueCathedralCordoba #MezquitaCordoba #CordobaSpain #UNESCOSite #AndalusiaHeritage #HistoricArchitecture #IslamicArt #SpanishCathedrals #CulturalFusion #TravelSpain
Walking into the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba (La Mezquita) was surreal—a masterpiece where Islamic and Christian architecture intertwine under one roof. I visited in the morning, and stepping into the vast hall of red-and-white striped arches felt like entering a different world. It was calm, quiet, and utterly breathtaking.
The original mosque columns and horseshoe arches stretch out endlessly, creating a forest of stone that pulls you into history. Right in the center, the Christian cathedral rises, richly decorated and beautifully preserved. The contrast is stunning—and instead of clashing, the two styles complement each other in a way that feels completely unique.
It’s not just a building—it’s a timeline made of stone, a living reminder of Córdoba’s layered past. I took my time walking through the halls, looking up at the domes and soaking in the quiet grandeur. A must-see that leaves you in awe.
Travel Tips & How to Get There:
• Best time to visit:
• Early morning for fewer crowds and soft light coming through the arches.
• How to get there:
• Located in the historic center of Córdoba.
• Easily accessible on foot from most attractions or by taxi from the train station.
• Tips:
• Book tickets online if you’re visiting in peak season.
• Don’t rush—take time to admire the arches and domes from different angles.
• Look out for the Mihrab, a stunning remnant of the mosque era.

50 Shades of Blue in Samarkand
Samarqand is not just a city—it’s a living museum wrapped in silk and stone. With more than 2,500 years of history, it blends Persian, Mongol, and Islamic influences into something uniquely Uzbek. From the majestic domes of the Registan to the peaceful alleys of the old town, every corner whispers stories of scholars, poets, and traders who once passed through the Silk Road.
Beyond the Registan, the Shah-i-Zinda necropolis was one of the most breathtaking surprises of my trip. Its corridor of tiled mausoleums glows in blues and turquoises, like walking through a sacred art gallery. Gur-e-Amir, the tomb of Timur, is another must-see—especially at sunset when golden light floods its courtyard.
Tips for travelers 📝
Best time to visit: Spring and autumn offer mild weather and fewer crowds.
Getting around: The city is walkable, but taxis (YandexGo) are cheap and easy to arrange via apps.
Food tip: Don’t leave without trying plov (Uzbek pilaf) and non (local bread) fresh from the tandoor.
Cultural respect: Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites—long skirts or pants and covered shoulders are appreciated.
Samarkand gave me the rare feeling of both wonder and calm. It’s a place to slow down, to look up, and to imagine what the world looked like centuries ago—only here, it's still all around you.

The Spiritual Sanctuary - Selangor International Islamic Arts Complex
#myhiddengems
The Selangor International Islamic Arts Complex, is an interesting place to learn and try your hand on some Jawi Calligraphy writing as well as admire the beautiful Jawi scripts which have been turned to art pieces too…
Built on a 14-hectare site in the city of Shah Alam, this spiritual sanctuary is the heart of Islamic arts heritage in Selangor, with exhibitions on Islamic calligraphy, architecture, interior design, paintings and Quran manuscripts.
It serves as the exhibition and production centre for Yayasan Restu (Restu Foundation), a non-profit organization formed in 1987 that aims to revive, preserve and promote Islamic arts and culture.
Yayasan Restu also dedicates itself to the reproduction and illustration of artwork based on Islamic design motifs as well as the Quran.
I enjoyed the gallery displays the Quran manuscripts and Islamic calligraphy exhibits. Some of these texts have been beautifully inscribed and decorated by Malaysian calligraphers and artists using traditional cultural designs and patterns found in mosques and palaces from around Malaysia and motifs found in everyday Malay culture.
