[2023 Lyon Food Tour] Michelin recommends Burgundy by Matthieu
Lyon is the third largest city in France, famous for its fine wine and food. You can find many pubs and restaurants just by opening the map. It is the city with the second most Michelin restaurants.
This time I tried Burgundy by Matthieu, which was recommended by the Michelin guide. This restaurant is famous for having the best wine from the burgundy region in Lyon. The dishes are made according to the chef's intuition with seasonal fresh food, and all the ingredients are freshly delivered directly from farms in nearby areas.
There are 3 menu options: Découverte, Intuition and Dégustation. Each menu offers 2 wine pairs. Since this restaurant is famous for its burgundy wine as wine pair, I chose the prestige wine pair.
Meun intuition includes appetizers, 3 courses, cheese and dessert, and the wine pair includes 4 bottles of wine.
At the beginning, there were 3 appetizers with a glass of white wine. The sour and sweet taste of the white wine combined with the 3 snacks immediately increased my appetite. One of the scallops was very delicious.
Then serve homemade bread with butter
The first dish was foie gras, which melted in the mouth and was served with corn sauce. It was just right to be eaten with bread. It was so delicious that you had to use bread to soak up all the sauce. The first bottle of white wine also went well with this foie gras.
The second dish was fish, the presentation was really beautiful, and the second glass of white wine was also served with it. It was a lighter white wine with lower acidity, but when paired with the fish dish, the freshness of the fish was brought out ^.^ The wine tasted better with each glass!
The third dish is a very special lobster soup and lobster. There is a frozen object in the middle of the lobster soup. The soup is both cold and hot, which is very interesting. The lobster soup is also very rich and flavorful. The third glass of wine is red wine, which is full of fruity aroma and deep red in color, a very beautiful color. I didn’t expect that red wine and seafood would have such unexpected effects.
The fourth course was duck, the sauce was served in a cute little sauce pan, it was sour and sweet and very delicious. The fourth glass of red wine is more fruity than the third one, smooth, sweet and full of fruit flavor.
Then the cheese spread came out. The waiter asked me which cheese I wanted to eat, but I greedily responded with all of them. Then he carefully prepared each cheese for me and told me to start with that cheese.
When the desserts were served, I was really surprised by the variety and quantity. There were cakes, macarons, and a dessert for each person.
Dining at Burgundy by Matthieu is very comfortable. The service is attentive and friendly. What I appreciate most is that they allow children as young as one and a half years old to enter the restaurant. You should know that high-end restaurants in Hong Kong do not accommodate children, but when I made reservations at high-end restaurants in France and Italy, they would accept me to bring my children to dine, which really touched me! #lyon #LyonFood #Burgundy by Matthieu
