cruising on a houseboat on the backwaters at Alleppey is a must do experience when visiting. However be prepared for the many other boats doing the same! it’s like a motorway for boats, there are literally hundreds all taking the same route up and down the canals. speedboats fly past looking for joyriders, music and karaoke blasts from other boats . it’s not particularly peaceful! and then when it’s time to sleep the boat moors up right next to the town, not in the countryside. so in many ways the reality is disappointing although you can appreciate the beauty of the backwaters. #houseboat #backwaters
