A Castle, a Diamond, and Timeless Traditions
The heart of the town is the iconic Donegal Castle, a beautifully restored 15th-century fortress once home to the powerful O’Donnell clan. Tucked into the heart of County Mayo, Westport is a town that balances elegance with adventure. Its Georgian streets, vibrant arts scene, and proximity to some of Ireland’s most dramatic landscapes make it a must-visit along the Wild Atlantic Way.
I began my journey wandering along the Carrowbeg River, its tree-lined banks and stone bridges offering a picturesque introduction to the town. The streets are alive with colorful shopfronts, inviting cafés, and the warm hum of traditional Irish music spilling from pubs like Matt Molloy’s, owned by the famed flautist of The Chieftains.
A highlight was exploring Westport House, a stately 18th-century mansion set amidst lush parklands. The estate recently unveiled the Westport Adventure Park, featuring treetop walks, zip lines, and Ireland's largest Net Park—a delight for families and thrill-seekers alike.
For outdoor enthusiasts, the options are plentiful. I cycled a portion of the Great Western Greenway, a 42km trail stretching from Westport to Achill Island, offering breathtaking views of Clew Bay and its myriad islands. The trail is well-maintained and suitable for all levels, with bike rentals readily available in town.
No trip to Westport is complete without tackling Croagh Patrick, Ireland’s holy mountain. The climb is challenging but rewards hikers with panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside and the Atlantic Ocean.

Late spring to early autumn (May–September) offers mild weather, ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the town's vibrant cultural scene.

Start your day with a hearty Irish breakfast at a local café before setting out on the Greenway.
Visit the Clew Bay Heritage Centre to delve into the region's rich history.
Don't miss the chance to sample traditional Irish dishes at local eateries—boxty is a must-try!

Dingle Days – Where the Wild Atlantic Meets Irish Soul
#cityplaybook
#cityplaybook #localguides #aprilblooms #localguides
Dingle isn’t just a place on a map—it’s a feeling, a storybook coastal village where the rhythm of the waves blends with the rhythm of life. Tucked away on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, this tiny harbor town is full of big surprises, endless charm, and unforgettable coastal adventures.
What drew me in first was Dingle’s picturesque harbor, framed by colorful buildings and bobbing fishing boats. I started my day with a creamy cappuccino at Bean in Dingle, then wandered down to the pier where locals chatted over nets and gulls soared overhead. It felt like time slowed down here.
The Slea Head Drive was the real highlight—a winding, cliffside route that gave me goosebumps with every turn. Ancient beehive huts, views of the Blasket Islands, and windswept beaches made it feel like I’d stepped into a postcard. I pulled over constantly just to soak it all in.
One evening, I joined a traditional music session at O’Sullivan’s Courthouse Pub. The fiddle, the laughter, the storytelling—it was as Irish as it gets. And yes, I had the famous Dingle Gin too!
Another must-do? Visiting Oceanworld Aquarium, or better yet, heading out on a boat tour to try to spot Dingle’s most famous (now late) resident, Fungie the dolphin, whose memory still brings smiles and stories to life in the town.
Best Time to Visit:
May through September offers the best weather for coastal drives, boat tours, and outdoor dining. Late spring and early fall mean fewer crowds.
Helpful Tips:
Rent a car for maximum flexibility along the peninsula.
Pack layers—the sea breeze can get brisk.
Don’t miss local seafood—try Out of the Blue for the freshest catch.

Killarney Calling – Ireland’s Green Heartbeat
#cityplaybook
#aprilblooms #familytrip #localguides
Killarney swept me off my feet from the moment I arrived. Nestled in County Kerry and brimming with timeless charm, this vibrant town is the gateway to some of Ireland’s most breathtaking landscapes. If you’re dreaming of emerald hills, castle ruins, serene lakes, and warm Irish hospitality—Killarney is your dream come true.
My base was a cozy guesthouse near the town center, perfect for walking to local pubs and cafes. But the real adventure began in Killarney National Park—a wonderland of ancient woodlands, mountain passes, and shimmering lakes. I rented a bike and followed the trails through Muckross House and Gardens, stopping to marvel at the stately 19th-century mansion and the surrounding beauty.
From there, I explored Torc Waterfall, tucked away in the forest, where the rush of water echoed through mossy trees. A hike up the nearby steps rewarded me with panoramic views of Muckross Lake—absolutely worth the climb.
One of my favorite moments was taking a jaunting car (a traditional horse-drawn carriage) through the Gap of Dunloe. The scenery here is wild and cinematic—towering mountains, glacial lakes, and winding roads that feel untouched by time.
Evenings in Killarney are equally magical. Live folk music spills out of pubs like O’Connor’s and The Laurels, and strangers quickly become friends over a pint of Guinness.

Late spring to early autumn (May to September) is perfect for hiking, biking, and exploring the lakes and mountains in mild, pleasant weather.
Helpful Tips:
Bring waterproof gear—the weather is famously unpredictable.
Early mornings in the park offer the most peaceful views.

#familytrip #cityplaybook #familytrip
Sligo isn’t just a place you visit—it’s a feeling you carry with you. Nestled on Ireland’s wild northwest coast, this charming town left me breathless with its dramatic scenery, rich history, and poetic spirit. It’s no wonder W.B. Yeats found so much inspiration here—every hill, lake, and ruin feels like a verse waiting to be written.
My journey began with a peaceful walk along the banks of the Garavogue River, flowing gently through the heart of Sligo Town. The town itself is colorful and cozy, dotted with artisan cafes, bookshops, and inviting pubs where live traditional music fills the air after sunset.
But the real magic of Sligo lies just outside its center. I drove out to Benbulben, the iconic tabletop mountain that dominates the landscape. Standing beneath its shadow, I understood why it’s called “Ireland’s own Table Mountain.” The views were nothing short of epic.
I also visited Glencar Waterfall, tucked away in a woodland glen, and Lough Gill, where I took a boat trip to Isle of Innisfree, immortalized in Yeats' poetry. These serene natural spots filled me with a deep sense of peace.
A highlight for me was paying respects at Drumcliff Churchyard, where Yeats is buried beneath the famous words: “Cast a cold eye on life, on death. Horseman, pass by!”
Best Time to Visit:
May to September offers the best weather for hiking and outdoor exploration, with long daylight hours and plenty of local festivals.
Helpful Tips:
Bring layers—weather can shift quickly.
Stop at WB’s Coffee House for a pastry and a poetry fix.
Explore Strandhill Beach for surfing or seaweed baths—yes, they’re amazing!

Cliffs of Moher Experience 🗺️
#traveldiaries
The Cliffs of Moher in Ireland were nothing short of breathtaking! Standing on the edge of these towering cliffs, with the Atlantic Ocean stretching out in front of me, was surreal. The entrance fee was €10, which included access to the visitor center and parking. The walk along the cliff paths offers stunning views, especially at O’Brien’s Tower. The weather can change quickly, so be prepared! Nearby, the quaint village of Doolin is great for a traditional Irish meal or a ferry to the Aran Islands. An unforgettable experience! #trip #CliffsOfMoher #IrelandAdventures #NatureWonders #WildAtlanticWay #TravelMoments
