🇱🇰 Sri Lanka has a railway network with a total length of 1508 km. The route from Kandy to Badulla via Ella spanning 183 km is often regarded as the most scenic train journey in Sri Lanka. The 7.5-hour journey meanders through cool misty mountains and vast tea plantations dotted with brightly dressed tea pickers. Reserved seat tickets in first class, second class and third class carriages can be booked online in advance. Most passengers in these carriages are tourists. Most locals opt for unreserved seat tickets which are much cheaper. We booked second class and third class carriages on two separate journeys and the carriages were clean and comfortable, but the third class carriage was slightly more cramped. Many tourists prefer to sit or stand in one of the open train doorways, with their feet dangling above the track. Sri Lanka is a place popular with the many tea plantations thruout the entire country and to see that, hop onto one of the most scenic train ride that starts from Ella To Bandulla. The entire journey we paid was about $1 but of course don't expect 1st class treatment in the train, but you will be able to reserve a seat in one of the carriage to give you panoramic view of the surrounding where you will meet tea plantations, scenic Mountain backdrops and thru the many towns, its a relatively relaxing route. Train ride will always be a wonderful attraction for me and my husband. We can easily decide to go for a train ride compared to a plane — if there’s a choice and logical. The last long train ride we had was from Hanoi to Beijing. The newest ride is from Ankara to Kars. Dogu Express also known as Eastern Express carries 7 wagons, minus 1 wagon for the cafe and the rest are for the passengers. There are 2 wagons with cabin bed (4 beds each), and the normal seat wagons consist of 2-1 seating layout. There are 2 types of train from Ankara to Kars. The classic daily train, and the touristic train. The touristic train is not daily operated, only 3 times a week. And it doesn’t have any seat, only cabin bed provided. Along from Ankara to Kars, there are 49 stations in between. The train will stop and go in each of the stations. The whole journey took more or less 29 hours from Ankara to Kars — which is the last station at the border of Armenia. As usual, we took normal seat because we love to mingle with the local. Cabin bed is nice, but you can’t really see the local’s life and behaviour except if you meet them at the cafe. The fee for 1 seat is TYR212 (+-). However it cannot be reclined a lot. Luckily it is cushion seat. Charging plug is provided in each of the side of the seat. The view of Anatolian land is magnificent! The train leaves Ankara Gar at 5.55pm sharp everyday so be prepared, dont be late! During winter, the temperature inside the train is cozy. Its not that warm but its cozy. Passengers travelling to Terminal 4 should change on to the free transfer train at Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 . For the I have read the ticket cost is Express Singles cost £22 off-peak and £25 peak. The journey will take about 15mins The train cabin is clean and also have space for luggage. After a long flight able to get to town in a fast spend is a luxury. Well there are other cheaper options but somehow I feel this is good enough . There is a well talked about train ride located in Sri Lanka that will cost you only less than $2 for a train ride that starts from Kandy to Ella vice versa. This train ride will roughly take you close to 7 hours for the entire route which can be quite time consuming. Instead, we took a drive towards the end of the train ride to Ella and took the train backwards towards Nuwara Eliya which was only less than 3 hours ride and you will be able to see the many tea plantations with tea planters plucking tea leaves and also pass thru many water cascades.
