Our adventure began in Tawau, where we were eager to explore the Columnar Basalt Balung Cocos at Sungai Balung. This geological marvel, with its perfectly hexagonal columns, was a sight to behold. The natural symmetry and the surrounding lush greenery made it a perfect spot for photography and quiet reflection. After our exploration, we ventured into Tawau town to indulge in the local cuisine. The town is a hidden gem for food lovers, offering a variety of dishes rich in flavor and culture. From the savory fish head curry to the fragrant nasi kuning, every bite was a culinary delight. The warmth of the local vendors and the bustling atmosphere added to the charm of our food adventure. An unexpected highlight of our time in Tawau was a visit to a local cinema. The experience was surprisingly delightful, offering a glimpse into the everyday lives of the locals. The cinema was a cozy escape, where we enjoyed a local film surrounded by friendly faces, a simple pleasure that added a special touch to our trip. The next day, we set off for Mataking Island, a paradise of white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. The island’s serene environment provided the perfect setting for relaxation and bonding. We spent our days exploring the vibrant marine life, snorkeling through coral reefs, and simply unwinding on the beach. The peaceful atmosphere of Mataking, coupled with its stunning natural beauty, made our stay truly memorable. Mataking Island is a Malaysian island located in the Celebes Sea on the state of Sabah. Mataking Island is home to the first 'Underwater Post Office' in Malaysia and is connected to Pulau Mataking Kecil (Small Mataking Island) via a narrow sand bank. Mataking Island is a private island belonging to the Reef Dive Resort featuring luxury chalets and a dive center serving divers visiting Sipadan. Such a splendid scenery. The snorkeling is included in the island hoping package. We can see the sea creature from above. The sand is as white as paper. However during my visit, there are a lot of jelly fish making it not safe to get into the water. There are also shop located there owned by the locals.
