Nothing says "I love you" like French Food!
📍Jin Shang (No. 20 Xinyuanli West, Beijing)
Subway stop: Liangmaqiao
Chocolates, cakes, coffee and French crêpes - and vegan? Well that sounds like a whole lotta love to me! Every second Saturday of the month, Vegans of Beijing holds their vegan market with all-plant-based goodies and shopping. We even have doggies up for adoption if you're looking for a Valentine for every day of the year!
My favourite stall is always My Vegan Provence who has the most delicious French delicacies. Don't miss out on supporting local vegan business on your next trip to Beijing!

Vegan Cheese 🧀 platter in HK!
Live out your vegan cheese dreams at Ma & the Seeds of Life restaurant!
Ma...and The Seeds of Life was created to pay homage to the successive generations of talented women in Chef Tina Barrat's family, and to Mother Nature who protects, provides for and beautifies life. Rooted in the goodness of the earth and mankind, their dishes burst with gorgeous color, explode with raw flavor and energize with rich nutrients. It's a chic and classy vibe perfect for those who avoid meat, seafood and animal products.

VEGAN BUBBLE WAFFLE 😍🧇
If you're in Hong Kong, you can't miss out on their famous street food: the bubble waffle!
Good news, vegans don't need to miss out! Just head to LN Fortunate Coffee for a selection of chocolate, matcha or regular bubble waffle. I highly recommend pairing it with a 🌹latte, it was probably one of the best drinks ever to grace my lips!
The buddhist staff is so kind and welcoming. They are very proud of their special "Fortune Clock" that reminds you to practice virtues throughout the day rather than being sucked in by time.

Don't miss this OG vegan spot in Hong Kong!
Green Common stores and restaurants are some of the best spots to grab a vegan bite in the city. HK can be a pretty pricey city to eat out in compared to the Mainland, but if you order a combo (1 appetizer, 1 main and 1 drink), you can be eating your fill for under 100 HKD! What's more, if you take away (which you'll have to do for the 3 day medical surveillance anyways), you get 20% off!
My favourite dish was the Portuguese Omni fish quinoa dish. I'm not usually a fan of this grain, but it was so decadent and filling with that cheesy sauce. The fish was also super flaky and convincing (my omnivorous partner was shook!).
I also highly recommend the Thai milk tea (not pictured) if you like a sweet, cold drink. And don't forget to check out the store for some delish nibbles for home or on the go!

Off to Grandma's house for SPRING PANCAKES 😍
𝙎𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙁𝙊𝙊𝘿 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘼𝙇𝙇 𝙎𝙀𝘼𝙎𝙊𝙉𝙎
📍Grandma's House Spring Pancake (姥姥家春饼店 Lǎolao jiā chūnbǐng diàn)
Next to Huiqiao Hotel, 1st Floor, Building 19, Huixin East Street
惠新东街19号楼1层惠桥饭店旁边
春饼Chūnbǐng, or Spring Pancakes are my absolute favourite shareable dish as they please both omnivores and vegans alike. The pancake (饼bǐng) is so thin it's translucent, and has a delightful chewy texture.
My go-to place in Beijing is the chain called Grandma's House Spring Pancake (姥姥家春饼店 Lǎolao jiā chūnbǐng diàn). There are about a dozen scattered around the city. It's not a vegan restaurant, but they have many vegan-friendly fillings to try. Some of my faves are:
1️⃣Smoked tofu and Chinese chives (豆干韭菜 dòugān jiǔcài)
2️⃣Vermicelli with pickled cabbage (酸菜粉丝suāncài fěnsī)
⚠️Vegans ask for no meat or pork oil:
不要肉和猪油 Bùyào ròu hé zhū yóu.
3️⃣Sour and spicy shredded potato (酸辣土豆丝Suān là tǔdòu sī
4️⃣ Shredded mushrooms (鱼香杏鲍菇yú xiāng xìng bào gū)
The menu has pictures and fairly accurate translations, so non-Chinese speakers should be able to order without issue. Don't forget to order a cold beer, some fresh garnishes like shredded cucumber and onion, and some hoisin sauce!

What's vegan at Universal?
Spoiler: not much 😬
That being said, who goes to Universal for the food? Whether you're vegan or not, it's overpriced and just average, so maybe just pack a sandwich.
However there are a few options if you're in a pinch:
1️⃣ Grandma Panda's Kitchen - veggie steamed bun
2️⃣ K-pro vegetarian chicken nuggets and fries
3️⃣ Phoenix House Superior - Zha liang and vegetarian Cheung Fen, as well as some greens.
⚠️Not-so-fun-fact : Butterbeer would be vegan, except the topping contains dairy, and the employees are contractually obligated to serve it with the foam. LAME!
But not everything needs to be about food. I had an amazing time. Highly recommend the Transformers Rollercoaster!

Beijing Coffee Festival ☕
☕𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝘽𝙚𝙞𝙟𝙞𝙣𝙜'𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚 𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙡!
China definitely isn't known for its coffee culture, but actually it's getting easier and easier to find good brews in Beijing 😁.
🌟Highlights:
- Oatly dominated this festival with a huge, gorgeous display front and center that certainly was grabbing a lot of attention!
- Also spied some other plant-based milks like Minor Figures
- Received a cute commemorative cup for "free" (you did need to pay a 55 rmb entry)
- Absolutely gorgeous weather and setting in the Central Banking District 🔆🏙️😎
💔 Low points
- Not enough samples! I was surprised that most places were selling full-sized coffees. I think it would be smarter if everyone sold mini cups at a cheaper price. Vendors wouldn't have as much competition, and probably would earn more as a result, plus attendees could enjoy more drinks!
- The coffee I chose was more like an espresso juice 🤢. A word to the wise: don't choose your coffee based off of the picture only 🙃.
What's your favourite way to take your coffee?

WHERE TO TRY AUTHENTIC BEIJING NOODLES!
𝙊𝙡𝙙 𝘽𝙚𝙞𝙟𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙁𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝙎𝙖𝙪𝙘𝙚 𝙉𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙡𝙚𝙨🍜
Fried Sauce Noodles (炸酱面Zha jiang mian)are Beijing's signature dish. Fresh, chewy noodles topped with crisp veg and a delicious salty, umami fermented bean sauce—what's not to love? Well, for me it's the very unnecessary pork cubes that are cooked into the sauce in most local shops😪
No worries! Here are 3 places you can try meatless versions of the Beijing classic nood:
1️⃣Bestease Lanzhou Noodles 百易·兰州素拉面
📍No.44,Beitucheng East Road北土城东路元大都城垣遗址公园内44号
2️⃣Qian Mian Yi Cheng 千面一诚
📍No.8,Qijia Huozi,1st floor,store n. 49 祁家豁子8号1层首层商业49号
3️⃣Xiang He Lin 香合林
📍No.4, Andeli North Street 安德里北街乙4号Visit a vegan restaurant, of course!
❤️Don't forget to save this post for when your next noodle craving strikes!

FOOD FEST FEVER IN BEIJING
What I ate as a vegan at The Beijinger's Belt & Road Food Fest!
Although this was by no means a veggie event, with 40+ vendors and free entry, I was willing to give it a shot! To my surprise I found a handful of delicious things to munch on, and left completely stuffed.
What I ate:
1️⃣包浆豆腐 Bāo jiāng dòufu - a fried tofu snack from Yunnan with a creamy, almost cheesy center. Topped to the heavens with fresh herbs, spices, peanuts and rehydrated mushrooms.
2️⃣Vegan Chorizo Mac & Cheese with beyond meat. A little dry, but delightfully spicy and flavourful.
3️⃣ Vegan Cheesecake - loved how it had berries AND oreo cookies. Seriously so decadent.
4️⃣ Bulldog Margarita - because who am I to not drink at a food fest?
Which item had you drooling most?

NOODLES TO WARM YOUR BELLY AND HEART🍜 ♥️
💚香合林 Xiang He Lin is a Buddhist vegan noodle and jiaozi restaurant nestled in Beijing's Gulou district.
💎This really is a gem of a place. It has a small neighbourhood vibe, where you really feel cared for as soon as you walk in.
The diners greeted me kindly while noshing down on their jiaozi🥟 (dumplings) and free corn congee🌽. The boss was also eager to make me feel at home with his calm, soothing demeanor (which if you've been in Beijing any amount of time, you know is a rare find!😅), helping me choose a noodle to my taste.
👵🏼👴🏼I found out that they serve free meals to seniors over 68 daily, and if you happen to pop in on a holiday, food is free for everyone! Not that the prices are going to set you back - a bowl of fresh, handmade noodles is 18.8 RMB (less than $3 US), and jiaozi start from 22 RMB ($3 US).
🍄What I ordered: Braised Mushroom Noodles (蘑菇卤面Mógū lǔ miàn)

Peanut Latte in Qingdao 😍🥜
📍Highlight Coffee on De Xian Rd, 23
(德县路23号)
This peanut latte was like a belly hug! Creamy like peanut butter with a slight sour-salty topping (I think it was citric acid) made it one of the most interesting coffees I've had this year. For dairy-free, you can ask for it to be made with oatmilk at no extra cost.

Please use oatmilk.
Very cozy, vintage atmosphere. Highly recommend!

BEST COFFEE IN BEIJING!
☕If you love coffee, you're not going to find any better than Silence Coffee hosted by Nugget nestled in the Andingmen hutongs. While it's not a vegan café, there are lots of plant-based milks to choose from as well as vegan cookies with plant-based butter cream!
🍹The café turns into a bar (Nugget) at night with delicious cocktails and fun events like drink and draw, crafts, concerts and more.
✨Fun Fact: Silence Coffee gets its name because the owners are deaf, and they provide opportunities to people with hearing disabilities. How awesome is that?

AUTHENTIC CHINESE NOODLES!
Taste authentic Chinese flavours EASILY without having to go through quarantine! These noodles are fantastic and the ingredients are pretty easy to find anywhere in the world.
If these hot oil noodles (油泼面Yóu pō miàn) aren't the best noodles ever, they're certainly some of the best noodles I'VE ever made!
𝐈𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:
- 1 serving of noodles 🍜 (you choose what's enough, I don't judge!). I used dried knife cut noodles (刀削面dāoxiāomiàn).
- 1 tablespoon of chilli powder 🌶️ (go as spicy as you'd like, this one was pretty mild).
- 2-4 garlic cloves, minced 🧄
- chopped cilantro
- chopped scallions
- handful of bean sprouts
- handful of greens of choice (I used baby bok choy) 🥬
- 2tbsp of neutral oil (corn, canola, grapeseed)
- 1tbsp of light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp of black vinegar
𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬:
1️⃣ Bring water to a boil and cook noodles according to package instructions. Drop in your greens for the last minute of cooking, then drain.
2️⃣ Assemble your noodles, making sure that the chilli powder, scallions and garlic are together on top.
3️⃣Heat oil until it starts to smoke. I recommend using a metal ladle over the gas stove for the most control.
4️⃣Pour the oil carefully over the garlic, chili powder and scallions. This will slightly cook those ingredients and release a beautiful aroma.
5️⃣Add your soy sauce and vinegar (more or less to taste), mix and enjoy!
