Located at the foot of Mount Huangshan in southern Anhui Province, Hongcun is a beautiful old village that gives the impression of being lost in a landscape painting. Its unique scenery and historical value have earned it the nickname "China's Painting Village," and it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Here, the Huiping school architecture, which has a history of over 800 years, and the ingenious water system are a wonderful match, attracting visitors. The biggest feature of Hongcun is that the entire village is designed to resemble a cow. Leigang Mountain represents the cow's head, the ancient tree that worships the heavens represents the horns, the waterway that runs through the village represents the intestines, the Moon Lake in the center represents the stomach, and the South Lake represents the cow's belly. This layout is both scientific and artistic, designed to prevent fires and store water for daily use, and it reflects the feng shui that has been passed down since ancient China. When you walk through the village, the first thing you see are the Huiping school buildings with white walls and gray tiles. These buildings have been preserved since the Ming and Qing dynasties, and there are said to be as many as 137 of them. The highlight of the complex is the "Chengzhi Hall," which is so luxuriously decorated that it is called the "Private Palace." After reaching the peak you see an endless sea of clouds beneath you, the Latitude was around 1750m above see level, We got lost in the picturesque scenes on our way down to the cable car station, what kept us motivated was a local dinner awaiting us. It is said that the name comes from the legendary Chinese king, Yellow Emperor, and many literati have visited the mountain since ancient times. It is a famous mountain since ancient times, as the saying goes, ``You must not see a mountain without seeing Huangshan.'' As you can see in the photo, you can enjoy strange rocks and pine trees in a world of ink painting. Among them, the flying stones are famous, and I did a hike around the stone, which looks like it might fall at any moment, and the appearance changes completely depending on the direction you look at it. I couldn't see the first sunrise of 2011 because it was cloudy, but the last sunset of 2010 was simply magnificent. Huangshan is high at 1,800m, but you can take a special bus to the middle of the mountain, and then a ropeway to the 7th and 8th stations, so start from there. The road is well maintained, but the terrain is rough, so you need to prepare for hiking. When I went in January, there was still snow left, so I bought crampons at the foot of the mountain and used them. It takes about 3 hours from Shanghai to Huangshan North Station, and then about an hour to the foot of the mountain. I didn't have to wait to board the private bus on this trip, but I heard that you usually have to wait quite a while. Huangshan in Anhui Province has cable cars in addition to ropeways. Cable cars travel like trains on rail tracks. The experience of the Xihai Cable Car near the Baiyun Hotel in Huangshan is amazing! I thought it would be less impressive because it is not suspended like a ropeway. However, the terrain is suitable for cable cars, so you can see amazing views. From the window of the cable car slowly descending from Xihai Station, you can see the overwhelming cliff scenery. The angle of the track is also very steep, and when we started to descend, it was like a slow roller coaster. When we arrived at the bottom of the valley, we were surrounded by high cliffs. There are stairs on the cliffs, so we could climb them. Check the cable car operating hours and take a walk. The fare is a bit high at 200 yuan round trip, but it is worth it if you have come this far. #HuangshanTourism #Huangshan

The Yellow Mountain is famous in China, it’s located in Anhui province (a 2-3 hours train from Hangzhou or Shanghai if you happen to be there). Go in the morning, you can hike for around 3 hours or take the cableway that takes 10min (but what’s the fun?). I went in the beginning of June, the weather was foggy the first day but in the next morning we enjoyed a beautiful sunrise. We stayed at the top of the mountain in a hotel called 黄山西海饭店, which I recommend. After the sunrise the next day we had breakfast at the hotel and at around 8am started our way down. We did half walk half cableway (it took around 6 hours). If you don’t wanna hike I recommend you to enter through the north entrance and stay at the hotel next to the cableway. Or just go, watch the sunset and leave. Entrance: 90rmb for being foreigners, 180rmb for Chinese people. Cableway: 90rmb each. Hotel: 1300rmb per night with dinner and breakfast included (2 people).
