Taiwanese Comfort in a Bowl
#bestchinesefood
Taipei was drizzling when I ducked into Cheng Wei Zhen — but inside was warm, buzzing, and smelled like soy, garlic, and comfort.
A hot bowl of meatball and wonton soup was all I needed to feel cozy.
The seating is humble, the atmosphere relaxed. Families, office workers, and couples huddled around their trays — quietly enjoying their meal. That’s when you know you’re at a local favorite.
I was alone that day, but never felt lonely with that bowl in front of me.
A Taste of Taiwan’s Warmest Hug
#bestchinesefood
Nothing hits the spot like a bowl of braised pork rice (滷肉飯) done right. This one at Cheng Wei Zhen? Soft, savory pork bits melting into fluffy white rice — every bite reminded me of home. The soup filled with dumplings brought the perfect balance. I came here with a close friend, and we both agreed: simple food, done well, always wins.
Would I go back? Absolutely. Especially for that perfectly seasoned side plate — soy eggs, braised tofu, mushrooms, and century egg.
This spot has been serving since 1974 — and it shows in every bowl.
Choose, Weigh, Devour: Cheng Wei Zhen’s Flavor Parade
#bestchinesefood
One thing I loved about Cheng Wei Zhen is how interactive the ordering experience is. You grab a menu, check the trays filled with all kinds of braised goodies (pig’s ear, seaweed, tofu, duck wings — you name it), then tick off what you want. It’s like choosing your own flavor adventure!
I went with my partner and we had a blast picking out items. Watching the kitchen team work with such rhythm and speed was a whole other show. The food? Bold, hearty, and satisfying in a very Taiwanese way.

Exploring Chinese Cuisine: A Journey Like No Other
#bestchinesefood
I recently visited China, a destination like no other. Unlike many countries where you can easily find a variety of international cuisines, China stays true to itself—you adapt to its food, not the other way around. And trust me, it’s worth it.
Each region offers something special, and a trip to China isn’t complete without diving into its local dishes. Here are some must-try foods from different provinces:
Beijing – Of course, Peking duck is a must. Crispy skin, tender meat, and thin pancakes to wrap it all together—it’s perfection.
Sichuan – If you love spice, go for hot pot or mapo tofu, but be warned—the numbing heat of Sichuan peppercorns is next level. If you’re not used to spicy food, start slow!
Guangdong (Cantonese cuisine) – Dim sum is the highlight here. From steamed dumplings to barbecue pork buns, the variety is endless.
Yunnan – This province offers unique flavors, and one thing you can’t miss is “crossing-the-bridge noodles”—a delicious bowl of rice noodles served in a rich, hot broth.
And don’t forget the desserts! While Chinese sweets might not be as sugary as Western ones, they are just as delicious. One of my favorites was the flower cakes in Lijiang, a delicate pastry filled with edible flowers, often roses. They’re light, fragrant, and a perfect treat after a meal.
If you’re visiting China, go with an open mind (and an empty stomach). The country’s food culture is deeply rooted in tradition, and every dish tells a story.
