#myhiddengems
Bamberg is a beautiful Bavarian city and what made me pick it is that it is comparatively lesser known. While at our hostel in Nuremberg, the three or us tried to figure out options for daytrips. It seemed that Bamberg wasn't a part of many people's itinerary. And the reason was merely a lack of mention. This is thought would be a good reason to head there. I always prefer places with less tourist and architecture especially in context to Germany has mostly been satisfying.
So we left for Bamberg. We didn’t have much of a plan for our visit to Bamberg and simply began to wander. We easily found the Old Town Hall, spanning the Regnitz River. The historic town is compact and that makes it walkable to reach most places of tourist interest. Strolling down by the river we had our first architectural sighting of St. Stephen's church. Walking further got us to a place with several buses making a stop. These were the notorious tour buses.
Focusing on the sights we kept walking. Soon enough the old court appeared. Again the architecture was very interesting. This followed a trip the museum which was nice. Next we had a glimpse of the shlenkerla tavern. It is a brewery that serves the local speciality of smoked beer is the age old traditional manner. (from the wooden barrel). Looking at how crowded it seemed. we just continued walking. The rest of the day trip included several old architectural gems and heritage like little venice and then we were on our way back to the train station.

Grüner Markt in Bamberg
The Green Market (Grüner Markt) is a square and a street that are the main tourist spots in Bamberg.
The Green Market leads to the Maxplatz and it also houses Bamberg's main Christmas market.
Along the Gruner Markt there are historical buildings housing shops, cafes, restaurants and hotels
In the pedestrian zone of the Green Market there are stalls selling fruits, vegetables and flowers. Hence the name - "Green Market". We brought our fresh fruits from here.

A fabulous walk along Linker Regnitzarm
This is our first visit to Bamberg. We went there mainly old town, a UNESCO Heritage site and Altes Rathaus (Bamberg Old Town Hall). Bamberg is being also nicknamed the "franconian Rome", because it lies on 7 hill.
The town itself is best explored on foot. We are pleased to see small houses placed along a river bank and enhanced by reflections in river’s water. We made a fabulous walk there with many more magnificent observations. It is picturesque with a lovely river flowing through the town. Lots of photo opportunities and nice bars and restaurants.
Well worth stopping off.

Alte Hofhaltung Bamberg
The Alte Hofhaltung that translates to the ‘Old Court’ is a historic attraction in the beautiful city of Bamberg. The Alte Hofhaltung area comprises of former houses and farm buildings that belong to the Episcopal palace from the 15th century. By the building is a vast courtyard with a late Gothic arcaded frame. The court is also home to a historical museum and half timbered building with spectacular rooftops.
The courtyard with its beautiful hanging baskets of flowers was a sight to behold! The architecture is very interesting as well. You can't go inside but it's worth a look see!
Standing there will definitely make you feel going back in time. Located next to Bamberg cathedral and New residence so, you cannot miss this place. Movies shots have been taken to this area.

A Magnificent Cathedral in Bamberg
Bamberg Cathedral is a church in Bamberg, Germany, completed in the 13th century. The cathedral is under the administration of the Roman Catholic Church and is the seat of the Archbishop of Bamberg. Since 1993, the cathedral has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Town of Bamberg".
It worths the climbing up to the hill where the cathedral is sited. The church is extremely impressive from the outside and the inside doesn't disappoint. Its architecture is magnificent, and it contains many sculptures that are both visually impressive and historically important. The detail in the sculptures & carvings are really good! Beautiful organ as well.

Quick Breakfast in Bamberg
We had quick breakfast here before we heading to Nuremberg. It is located very close to the central bus station and just opposite City Hotel that we stayed. Very nicely decorated café with friendly staff.
The baked stuff can be warmed up briefly in the oven if you want. Excellent baked goods at fair prices. Very large selection of delicious things. The service is good.
We highly recommended.

Wang Shugang 王书刚, Bamberg
The sculpture “Meeting“ by the Chinese artist Wang Shugang (chinesisch 王书刚), depicts eight lifesize squatting men, positioned in a circle on Schönleinsplatz Square near a busy crossroads in Hainberg park. There is a beautiful garden with another statue. The work of art is made of bronze, varnished in red and goes back to an exhibition in the year 2013, CIRCLES, when it was first shown in Bamberg. Thanks to private donations and private funding, the eight red painted bronze casts are now permanently in the city since year 2016. Relax the environment pleasantly. Definitely an eye-catcher.

Bamberg Train Station
Bamberg city is not very big and it is easy to get around on foot. Bamberg Historic station building with a well-stocked newsagents, flowers shop and small supermarket (with baked goods) as well as a P&R car park and a bicycle parking garage. Next to the station building is a McDonald's restaurant.
I love Bamberg City with romantic feel and historical buildings, one of the best cities I've ever visited in Bavaria . The easy access by Train and buses is an advantage to visit this city. Worth a visit !

Ichi-San
Today we are missing rice so we decided to try Ichi-San. Very nice Japanese restaurant with a large menu and really good food. We ordered lunch set with Duck Bento and grilled salmon bento. Service was excellent and good value for money. The staff can speak mandarin to us.
The restaurant is located at Luitpoldstr. 12, 96052 Bamberg. We were stayed in City Hotel and it is walking distance to this restaurant. We highly recommended Ichi-San if you want to try on sushi or bento.

St Michael's Monastery
The monastery is situated at the peak of the hill exhibiting a magnificent view of the city of Bamberg. The city is built over seven hills each with a church at its peak. The St. Michael's Monastery holds the highest altitude in comparison with the other peaks.
We went today but the church has been closed for several years due to the restoration. Good thing it has a very beautiful, well maintained garden.
It takes a good hike to come here but once you are on the top, you have a breathe taking view of Bamberg with the cathedral and residence shining in the background.
Great for a walk and to see a good view of the town from its garden.

Cozy Italian restaurant serving pizza, pasta & traditional mains in a warm, brick-lined space. Nice change from traditional German food! My husband ordered seafood pasta and I choose a big plate of antipasti. Both dishes were freshly prepared, nicely presented and delicious.
