I stumbled upon a nasi lemak spot tucked inside SS15 Courtyard, and it turned out to be quite the pleasant surprise. The Nasi Lemak Shop may look unassuming, but the flavours? Powerful and nostalgic.
I went for the classic nasi lemak with fried chicken—the rice was fragrant with santan, the sambal had a nice fiery kick, and the fried chicken was crispy, hot, and juicy inside. The peanuts and anchovies were crunchy and fresh, and everything tied together with that signature runny egg.
It’s a great place for a quick local meal, especially when you’re craving something hearty. Plus, the air-conditioned setting makes it extra comfortable without losing that kopitiam charm.

I dropped by Thong Kee Cafe at Pandan Indah for breakfast, and the place was already buzzing with locals. Known for its signature TK 1+1 and classic kopitiam offerings, this outlet keeps the traditional vibe alive with a clean, comfortable setting and speedy service.
I ordered their famous croissant kaya butter toast along with a soft-boiled egg set and a cup of their strong, fragrant coffee—it was the perfect Malaysian-style breakfast. The croissant was warm and flaky, and that sweet-salty kaya butter combo really hit the spot. It’s the kind of place that reminds you why simple food done right is unbeatable.
Whether you’re here to tapau or dine in, Thong Kee always delivers consistent quality and a satisfying start to the day.

🍽️ Breakfast Delight at Café 168, G Hotel Gurney
I had the pleasure of enjoying my daily breakfast at Café 168 as a guest at G Hotel Gurney, and I must say, it was a great way to start each morning.
The buffet spread was well thought out—offering a good balance between international staples and local Penang favorites. There were live cooking stations preparing eggs any style and a particularly delicious Penang Hokkien Mee station that I looked forward to. Pastries were fresh, and there was a generous selection of fruits, cereals, cheeses, and hot dishes.
Coffee was strong and satisfying, with a self-service machine for specialty drinks as well. The staff were consistently friendly and prompt with clearing plates or offering assistance, which added to the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
The seating area was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with natural light flowing in from the windows—making it a pleasant place to enjoy a long, unhurried breakfast.
Overall, Café 168 does a solid job at breakfast service—definitely a highlight of staying at G Hotel Gurney.
