🍝 East Meets West Elegance at il Cielo, Hilton Singapore
Located on the 24th floor of Hilton Singapore Orchard, il Cielo offers more than just skyline views—it’s where Japanese precision meets Italian passion, beautifully orchestrated by Chef Yohhei Sasaki. I had the pleasure of dining here recently, and the experience was a masterclass in culinary creativity.
Despite not making a reservation, we were graciously seated at a quieter corner of the restaurant, away from what seemed to be a private event. The space exudes minimalist elegance—clean lines, understated decor, and a calm ambiance fitting of a refined dining experience.
We started with cream of Japanese pumpkin soup, pan-roasted foie gras, and bruschetta al pomodoro e burrata. Every bite felt deliberate—the foie gras was crisp outside, meltingly soft inside, and paired perfectly with balsamic glaze and greens. The pumpkin soup was aromatic and elevated with fried rosemary and a whisper of truffle cream.
For mains, I had the linguine aglio olio with Hokkaido sea urchin, bottarga, and yuzu—a brilliant, dynamic dish. The yuzu brought brightness and cut through the natural richness of the uni, giving the dish a fresh, balanced finish. My wife’s Angus beef tenderloin was perfectly done (a lovely medium rare), and the miso beef jus added a rich umami depth that nodded to the chef’s Japanese roots. We ended the meal with a classic tiramisu that did not disappoint.
The only drawback was the proximity of nearby diners—conversation from the table behind us was a little intrusive. But everything else—from service to presentation—was spot on.
Chef Sasaki’s finesse in marrying Italian staples with Japanese nuance makes il Cielo a must-visit. It’s a dining experience that surprises, delights, and lingers in memory.

Elegance in Bloom — A Spring Night at a Fancy Restaurant in Shenzhen
#springwander
Spring in Shenzhen isn’t just about flowers and fresh breezes—it’s also the perfect time to dress up and experience the city’s refined culinary side. Last night, I stepped into a world of soft lighting, clinking glasses, and gourmet artistry at one of Shenzhen’s most elegant restaurants, and it was pure magic.
Tucked high above the bustling city, this fine dining gem offers floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping skyline views. As the sun dipped below the horizon, golden hour poured in like honey, casting a warm glow over the velvet chairs, marble floors, and delicately set tables. The ambiance was soft and romantic—think live piano melodies, floral centerpieces, and the faint scent of roses drifting through the air.
The spring menu was a work of art—seasonal ingredients beautifully plated with precision and creativity. From fresh scallops with edible blossoms to creamy truffle risotto and rose-infused sorbet, every bite was an elegant celebration of the season.
It wasn’t just a meal; it was an experience. The kind that makes you slow down, sip your wine a little longer, and savor every moment. Whether you’re celebrating something special or simply treating yourself, spring in Shenzhen is the perfect excuse to indulge in elegance.
If you’re looking for a luxurious escape within the city, this is your sign to book that table.
