🦆 Crispy Perfection at Dragon-I Queensbay Mall
Had dinner at Dragon-I Restaurant at Queensbay Mall and it was a memorable meal, thanks to their outstanding Beijing duck — perfectly roasted with crisp skin and tender meat, served with all the right accompaniments. It definitely lived up to the hype.
The restaurant was buzzing with activity, and it’s clearly a popular spot. Only drawback: the noise level. The dragging of chairs and tables as the staff cleared and reset them made it a little too loud for comfort. Still, if you’re here for the food, it’s worth tolerating the hustle.
Service was efficient despite the crowd, and dishes arrived quickly. Would definitely return just for that duck again.

🥟 A Pleasant Surprise at Shanghai Ding House of Dumplings
Dropped by Shanghai Ding House Of Dumplings (上海鼎) and was genuinely impressed. The dim sum here is top-notch — fresh, flavorful, and served piping hot. From juicy dumplings to delicate har gow and fluffy char siew buns, every bite felt lovingly crafted.
The place isn’t overly fancy, but clean and comfortable with a relaxed vibe. What made the experience even better was the friendly and welcoming staff, always attentive and happy to give recommendations.
Whether you’re craving a light bite or a full-on dim sum feast, this spot definitely delivers without the fuss. Will gladly return!

☕ Nostalgic Mornings at Le Cafe
There’s something about Le Cafe that immediately takes you back in time. We dropped by for breakfast and were greeted with a rustic, old-school charm that felt warm and comforting. The baristas were friendly and chatty — we sat right at the counter and got to soak in the whole atmosphere as they made our drinks.
Their coffee was smooth and aromatic, a real highlight. And of course, we couldn’t skip the classic kaya butter toast and half-boiled eggs. It was the kind of breakfast that didn’t try too hard, but hit the spot just right — simple, familiar, and satisfying.
This place isn’t about modern flair or trends; it’s about heart, heritage, and that slow, peaceful start to the day.

☕ Coffee Break… Eventually – Starbucks Reserve Gurney Plaza
Stopped by Starbucks Reserve at Gurney Plaza after a round of afternoon shopping to grab my much-needed coffee fix. The café itself has a cozy setup and a premium feel, typical of the Reserve line. It’s a nice spot to take a breather, especially if you’ve been walking around the mall for hours.
Unfortunately, the service was really slow when I visited. There wasn’t a huge crowd, but somehow the baristas seemed overwhelmed or understaffed. Took quite a while before my drink was ready, which dulled the experience a bit.
Still, the coffee quality was solid as expected. But if you’re in a rush or hoping for quick service, this may not be the best choice during peak hours. Better for when you’ve got time to spare and just want to unwind.

🦀 Feasting on Freshness at 肥肥蟹 Fei Fei Crab, Straits Quay
We had an unforgettable seafood dinner at Fei Fei Crab in Straits Quay, Penang. From the moment we walked in, the service stood out—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable staff who guided us through the menu and made us feel genuinely welcomed.
The seafood was the real star: incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. We tried their signature crab dishes, and each bite showcased the sweetness and quality of the shellfish. Every plate was beautifully presented, and the spices and sauces complemented the natural taste of the seafood without overpowering it.
The waterfront setting of Straits Quay added a lovely backdrop—enjoying fresh seafood by the marina really elevated the experience. Prices were reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, making it feel like a true gem rather than a tourist trap.
If you’re craving freshly caught seafood served with hospitality and style, Fei Fei Crab is the place to go. Highly recommend this spot for a memorable dinner in Penang.

🌿 Elevated Escape: Penang Hill’s Perfect Blend of Nature and Nostalgia
Penang Hill was one of the highlights of our Penang trip. We took the funicular railway up, and the ride itself was already exciting with beautiful greenery surrounding us as we slowly climbed to the top. Once we reached the summit, we were greeted by a refreshing breeze and panoramic views of George Town and beyond—absolutely stunning, especially if you catch it on a clear day.
There’s quite a bit to explore up there—historic colonial buildings, charming cafes, temples, and even a mosque. We visited Sri Aruloli Murugan Temple and Masjid Bukit Bendera, both of which offered peaceful vibes and warm welcomes. The Habitat Penang Hill nearby is also worth visiting if you’re into nature trails and canopy walks, though we skipped it this time to just soak in the slower pace.
We enjoyed strolling around, stopping for a snack, and just taking in the mountain air. It’s a good mix of nature, culture, and history. Definitely wear comfortable shoes and bring water if you plan to walk more of the hill rather than just sightseeing at the top. Perfect for families, couples, or solo travelers looking to unwind above the city.

🌄 Serene Discovery at Sri Aruloli Murugan Temple, Penang Hill
Our hike up Penang Hill became even more memorable when we stumbled upon the Sri Aruloli Murugan Temple—a tranquil gem perched amid the leaves. Surrounded by lush forest and serenaded by birdsong, the temple stands as a peaceful nod to Penang Hill’s melting-pot soul.
Though not grand in scale, the temple is beautifully appointed with vibrant statues of Lord Murugan and colorful floral offerings. We were welcomed by devotees who greeted us with warmth and encouragement to explore respectfully. Their gentle smiles made us feel included, even as visitors.
Inside, the quiet hush and scent of incense created a calming atmosphere. It was a peaceful pause in our journey—a place to reflect mid-hike, take in spiritual vibes, and appreciate the cultural diversity that thrives on Penang Hill.
If you’re making the uphill trek or riding the funicular, be sure to visit. The short detour is worth it for a moment of serene reflection in a sacred corner of this lush hill.

A Little Farm On The Hill
#malaysiatrip
A Little Farm On The Hill in Janda Baik was one of the most refreshing dining experiences I’ve had. Just a short drive from KL, it felt like stepping into a peaceful countryside escape. The view was stunning—rolling hills, open air, and a cozy wooden farmhouse surrounded by gardens.
We had a farm-to-table lunch where nearly everything came straight from their own land. The smoked short ribs were melt-in-your-mouth good, and the garden salad—made with a mix of just-picked herbs and greens—was incredibly fresh and flavorful. You can really taste the care that goes into everything.
It’s more than just a meal—it’s a slow, thoughtful experience. Perfect for anyone who needs a break from the city and appreciates honest, seasonal food.

Eat and Cook in KL was one of the most creative dining experiences I’ve ever had. The space is intimate—just a few seats around the open kitchen—and watching the chefs work felt like being part of the story. 🍽️ Auntie Gaik Lean’s – A Truly Memorable Peranakan Feast
This was hands down the highlight of our Penang trip—I was genuinely excited for this meal, and it absolutely delivered. Dining at Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery felt like being invited into someone’s home, where every dish was served with heart and heritage.
Instead of picking dishes ourselves, we entrusted Adrian (Auntie Gaik Lean’s son) to curate the meal for us. And honestly, who are we to argue with the expert? That decision paid off beautifully.
We started with lor bak and pie tee—both were crispy, flavourful, and a perfect warm-up to the main spread. The nasi ulam was an aromatic, herby delight, while the sambal brinjal and sambal petai with prawns packed just the right punch. The curry chicken was rich and comforting, and the assam stingray—oh wow—bursting with tangy-spicy goodness.
To wrap up the meal, we had bee koe moy and pengat for dessert. The black glutinous rice was silky and deeply satisfying, while the pengat was thick, sweet, and comforting—just like how grandma might make it.
The ambience is charming and unpretentious, perfectly complementing the soulful food. Every dish was executed with such precision, and you could tell there was deep respect for tradition.
If you’re ever in Penang and love authentic Peranakan food, don’t miss this place. It’s not just a meal—it’s a culinary experience.

🌅 Golden Hour at Chew Jetty
We visited Chew Jetty close to sunset, and I must say—it was the perfect time. The heat of the day had mellowed, and the golden rays of the setting sun cast a magical glow over the entire jetty. The wooden houses on stilts, the gently rippling water, and the silhouettes of boats in the distance made it feel like I had stepped into a postcard.
Walking along the planks with the evening breeze brushing past, I felt completely at ease. There were fewer tourists at this hour, which gave us more time to soak in the peaceful charm and snap some really stunning photos without the crowds. The colors in the sky reflected beautifully off the water, adding to the calm, laid-back vibe of the place.
It’s amazing how this historical clan jetty, with its rustic homes and narrow boardwalks, still stands strong amidst modern George Town. A mix of old-world charm and everyday life, all quietly coexisting over the water.
Definitely recommend coming around golden hour—it’s cooler, calmer, and visually unforgettable.

A moment of tranquility in the heart of Penang👫🥰😎

Visiting Taman Bandaraya in Penang is a truly calming and peaceful experience. The park is beautifully maintained, with lush greenery all around and well-paved walkways perfect for a quiet stroll. Surrounded by tall trees and flowering plants, the atmosphere feels serene and refreshing. Birds chirp softly in the background, and the gentle breeze makes it an ideal spot to unwind. It’s a perfect escape from the city buzz, offering a moment of tranquility in the heart of Penang.
🏛️ A Fascinating Step Into Nyonya Heritage – Pinang Peranakan Mansion
Visiting the Pinang Peranakan Mansion was like taking a deep dive into the rich cultural tapestry of the Straits Chinese community. Set in a beautifully restored heritage building, the mansion is huge and filled with intricately preserved antiques, traditional furniture, and ornate decor that reflect the opulence of a bygone era.
The guided tours—available in both English and Chinese—were especially helpful in bringing the exhibits to life. Our guide shared fascinating stories about the lifestyle, customs, and history of the Peranakans in Southeast Asia. From wedding traditions to fashion, household utensils to ancestral worship, every room revealed a new layer of their unique hybrid culture.
What stood out most was how immersive the entire experience felt. It wasn’t just about viewing artifacts, but understanding how a community thrived with its own identity, balancing Chinese roots with local Malay influence.
A must-visit if you’re in Penang and interested in culture or history. It’s not just a museum—it’s a storybook of Nyonya life in vivid detail.

🍛 Charming Nyonya Breakfast at Li Er Cafe 莉儿 – A True Local Gem
We kicked off our Penang morning at Li Er Cafe, and it felt like stepping into someone’s home kitchen. Tucked away in a quiet corner, this spot delivers a heartwarming local breakfast that checks all the boxes—flavour, comfort, and authenticity.
We ordered the curry laksa, nasi lemak, roti jala with curry chicken, and maggi goreng—all solid choices. The laksa broth was creamy and spiced just right, the nasi lemak sambal packed a flavorful punch, and the roti jala was silky and perfect for soaking up that aromatic curry. Even the maggi goreng had that lovely wok hei which made it stand out.
The local coffee? Absolutely on point—strong, smooth, and aromatic. What made the experience even better was their promotion: just top up RM2 and you get a drink plus a selection of kuihs. We didn’t go for the kuihs this time since it was a random pick, but the friendly auntie came by to explain each one with so much warmth and passion—it made us want to return just for those traditional bites.
It’s places like these that give Penang its soul. No fancy decor, just honest food and heartfelt hospitality.

Merchant’s Lane

Merchant’s Lane in KL felt like a little escape from the busy city. Hidden behind a plain teal door on Jalan Petaling, the moment I climbed the stairs and walked in, I was greeted by a rustic, plant-filled space with vintage furniture and textured walls—it had that old-town charm with just the right amount of character.
I ordered the Italian Chow Mein with chicken rendang, and the mix of flavours totally worked—comforting, bold, and just different enough to be memorable. I also tried their rose honey milk, which was floral and smooth, not too sweet. The portions were big, perfect for sharing if you’re with friends or family.

KL Tower, Malaysia — Faced My fear and did it anyway 😱✨
#malaysiatrip
I went to KL Tower and got the full combo ticket — Sky Deck, Sky Box, and Tower Walk 100. I’ll be honest… I’m afraid of heights, but I still did it. And I’m so glad I did.
The Sky Deck gave incredible views of the entire KL skyline. Then came the Sky Box — a glass box that sticks out from the tower. The main purpose? 📸 Taking pretty photos. It literally feels like you’re standing in the air with nothing below your feet 🫣
But there’s a catch — ⏱️ there’s a timer for the Sky Box. So if you want good photos, plan your poses in advance! Once that countdown starts, it goes fast, and you don’t want to freeze while figuring out what to do 😅
The final challenge was Tower Walk 100. I got strapped into a full safety harness and walked along the edge of the tower, with a glass floor and open views all around. Scary? Yes. But the staff were super helpful, and honestly, I was proud of myself for doing it.
💡 Travel Tip
Afraid of heights? Same. But this is the kind of experience that stays with you forever. Just go slow, trust the gear, and enjoy the view.
