Tirana, the capital of Albania, surprised me in the best way possible. Vibrant, eclectic, and full of heart, this city pulses with energy, art, and resilience. It’s a place where the past and future are constantly conversing—and where every street seems to tell a story.
I began my journey at Skanderbeg Square, the beating heart of Tirana. Surrounded by iconic landmarks like the National History Museum, Et’hem Bey Mosque, and Clock Tower, the square felt both grand and approachable. What struck me most was the diversity of architecture—a fascinating blend of Ottoman elegance, Italian influence, and Soviet starkness, all softened by the city’s signature colors and street art.
Tirana is unlike any other European capital—it’s proud, raw, and constantly evolving. I visited the Bunk’Art 2 museum, an underground Cold War bunker turned into a striking art and history exhibit. It was haunting and eye-opening, offering a glimpse into Albania’s communist past and the stories of those who lived through it.
Walking through Blloku, once an exclusive area for the communist elite, now a hotspot for trendy cafés, bars, and boutiques, I could feel the spirit of transformation. I sipped strong Albanian coffee and chatted with locals eager to share their city’s journey of rebirth.
Mount Dajti, just a cable car ride away, offered a breathtaking panoramic view of Tirana nestled against lush mountains—a perfect escape from the bustle.
