Good Times Café was established by six siblings who grew up in Segamat. The café serves local delicacies prepared using traditional recipes that evoke fond childhood memories for many. The interior is charmingly decorated with vintage household items commonly used in the past, creating a warm, homely kampung atmosphere. I especially love the beautiful wall murals that bring back memories of the good old days. We ordered the Segamat wantan noodles and toasted bread with their signature duck egg kaya and butter. I wanted to visit a café I’d never heard of in Johor Bahru, so I searched on Lemon8 and came across Nikko Yoryo. It looked aesthetically pleasing, so I thought, why not give it a try? It was closed walking distance from the famous Nimmies Café, I was excited—and very hungry. . When I arrived, I realized the café had rebranded to Early Bird (formerly Nikko Yoryo). The space had a nice raw, industrial, retro vibe, and the presentation looked promising—but the food, not so much. . - Lemongrass Chicken Chop: Lacked any lemongrass taste or fragrance. It came with noodles (not mentioned on the menu) that had a raw taste. The chicken was hard, not tender, and very lean. The chili had a slight lemongrass and spice aroma but was overwhelmingly spicy, masking any real flavor. A poorly blended dish. - Affogato: Not the worst, but definitely not memorable. Price was reasonable, but not worth it. . As the saying goes, *a good trip is made better by good food*, but *bad food can ruin the mood*. At least the interior was nice. . Verdict? I was searching for another cafe near this location when I stumbled upon Re Patisserie by chance. The inviting interior caught my attention and drew me inside. And after I saw the beautiful display of cakes, I couldn’t resist buying a few to try and sat in the café to enjoy it. . The café had a lovely atmosphere, and the presentation of the food was impressive, making for a delightful experience. In the right picture, I ordered Cloud Hill, a stunning fruit cake with vanilla cream on the outside and a mix of strawberries, grapes, blueberries, kiwi, and oranges inside. . Behind the Cloud Hill is the Portobello Danish, served warm and topped with a generous layer of shredded cheese. This delicious pastry features a flavorful portobello mushroom filling, making it a perfect savory complement to the sweet fruit cake. Warong Tokyah is a popular cafe located in Johor Bahru that sells all kinds of desserts and breakfast items, be it sweet or savoury, traditional or modern. What’s unique about the cafe is that they operate in a buffet-style fashion, where all the items are displayed nicely, and customers just have to get a plate and pick what they want! What’s more, the items are affordably priced, with some as low as Rm1. You can also find kueh selection here such as tepung gomak, which has a mochi-like consistency and is filled with sweet gula melaka and coconut, and kaswi gedik santan, which is a pandan-infused dessert reminiscent of a jelly. Aside from these traditional treats, they serve up Malay breakfast items with the likes of nasi lemak bungkus, satay, bergedil and more. Nimmies Pastry Cafe is located within a standalone mansion, with both alfresco and indoor dining area. Inside, the space has tall ceilings, industrial grey walls and floorings complemented with vintage tiles and art pieces like a mini museum. The cafe is spacious enough and has pretty & airy aesthetic, making it a nice place to chill out during brunch or tea time but expect some crowd, especially if you come on weekends. The pastries are really yummy and reasonably priced. Since it's located at the popular Jalan Tan Hiok Nee, you can do cafe hopping, visit the thrift shops or buy the popular banana cake from Hiap Joo next door before going to explore City Square Mall, one of JB’s popular mall. Keijometo is an industrial themed cafe in JB that specialises in matcha, lots of bare concrete walls and a lot of greenery planted on the outside. Had the Salmon Ochazuke, Mentaiko Salmon Tamagoyaki Don and 2 hot Matchas. The mentaiko salmon tamagoyaki don was tasty and well seasoned and the mentai helped to add some creaminess to the rice. The salmon ochazuke was a bit bland and could have done with a bit more teriyaki sauce on the salmon as after the ocha was applied it was quite plain tasting. The matcha was a very thin preparation style of just some matcha in a lot of water instead of the whisked frothy style that I would have expected from a place that specialises in matcha.
