Durham: A Delightfully English Gem – I Love It! 🇬🇧🏰
#summervacay
If you adore classic English streets, magnificent Gothic architecture, serene riverside strolls, and a profound sense of history interwoven with a vibrant artistic atmosphere, then you absolutely cannot miss Durham! This charming city is truly a favorite. (And stay tuned, because nearby is Beamish, a fantastic open-air museum that recreates English life from the 1820s-1920s – it's my current favorite museum, and I'll write about it next!)
Durham is a small city tucked away in England's Northeast, boasting a prestigious university, a grand cathedral, an ancient castle, and lovely old bookstores. The best part? It's not crowded, giving it a wonderfully authentic English feel!
Highlights of Durham:
Durham Cathedral (杜伦大教堂): A filming location for Harry Potter, this cathedral was built in the 11th century and stands as one of Britain's most perfectly preserved Norman buildings. It's also a UNESCO World Heritage Site – absolutely breathtaking! ✨
Durham University (杜伦大学): The third-oldest university in England, following only Oxford and Cambridge. Many students who don't get into Oxford or Cambridge find their academic home here! I highly recommend wandering around the Palace Green area; it's brimming with an incredible academic atmosphere, and there are even free museums to explore. 🎓
Durham Castle (杜伦城堡): Standing proudly opposite the Cathedral, this too is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's now part of the university; Durham University students can enter for free, while others can visit for just £5. A fascinating glimpse into centuries of history!
Durham offers a captivating blend of history, academia, and stunning architecture, all within a wonderfully relaxed and authentic English setting.

A Hidden Gem for Old Souls! My Immersive Paradise: Beamish Museum! ✨🕰️
#summervacay
I visited Beamish Museum last summer, and I absolutely fell head over heels for it! I still can't get enough! 😍
Beamish Museum is an open-air museum located in Durham, Northern England. It perfectly recreates British life from the 19th to the early 20th century. The entire park is bursting with nostalgic vibes and incredible attention to detail, making it feel like you've stepped back in time in an instant! 🕰️🎩
Strongly Recommend: You absolutely must visit the photography studio! (J.R. & D. Edis Framers and Photographers)
There's a very special Victorian-era photography studio inside the museum where you can get old-fashioned British photos taken! This place is super popular, so the moment I entered the park, I made a beeline straight for the studio to get a queue number. I highly advise everyone to go early to grab a number, otherwise, you might easily miss out (they were all given out by around 11 AM the day I went!). 📸👑

Durham Cathedral, United Kingdom 🇬🇧⛪️
#timetotravel
The Durham Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral built in the late 11th and early 12th centuries and it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located at the heart of Durham City Centre and right by the River Wear, it is definitely something not to miss when you are visiting Durham.
As a Norman-style Romanesque architecture, you can find loads of massive pillars in the Durham Cathedral, connecting the arches and the ground, which makes the Cathedral majestic and magnificent.
As a graduate from Durham University, Durham Cathedral truly has a place in my heart, as both my matriculation and graduation were held within the Durham Cathedral.
Fun fact: Durham Cathedral is a popular filming location for blockbuster films, movies such as Harry Potter and Avengers: Endgame were filmed there.
