A Fortress by the River – My Peaceful Afternoon at Belém Tower
#summervacay #BelemTower #TorreDeBelem #LisbonHistory #PortugueseDiscoveries #IconicLisbon #TagusRiverViews #UNESCOSite #PortugalTravel #InsideBelemTower #LisbonMonuments
After exploring the striking Padrão dos Descobrimentos, I walked along the breezy Tagus River to the legendary Belém Tower—and this time, I made sure to go inside. It’s one thing to admire the tower from the outside, but stepping through its stone arches was like entering a time capsule from the Age of Discovery.
Inside, the spiral staircases were narrow but added to the charm. Each level had its own story—from cannons in the lower chambers to gothic balconies with river views. I especially loved reaching the rooftop terrace, where the panoramic view of the Tagus River and Lisbon skyline truly stole the show. The breeze up there was refreshing, and the sense of history was almost overwhelming.
Though compact, the tower’s details—Manueline architecture, turrets, and old stone carvings—made the whole experience unforgettable. It felt like walking through a piece of Portugal’s adventurous spirit.

• Inside stairs are steep and narrow, so wear good shoes and be patient during busy hours.
• Make time to climb to the rooftop—the view is the highlight!
• Combine your visit with nearby gems like Jerónimos Monastery and a pastel de nata from Pastéis de Belém.
🏯 Agra Fort – The Royal Fortress of Power & Glory
Not far from the Taj Mahal lies another marvel that often gets overshadowed – the mighty Agra Fort. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a massive 16th-century fortress that once served as the center of Mughal power.
Built mainly by Emperor Akbar, later beautified by Shah Jahan, the fort is packed with palaces, mosques, secret passageways, and tales of royal politics. 🏹 From here, emperors ruled over a vast empire, and historic decisions that shaped India were made.
🌄 The fort offers stunning views of the Taj Mahal from its balconies – especially the spot where Shah Jahan was held captive, watching his beloved monument across the river.
Walk through Jahangiri Mahal, Khas Mahal, Anguri Bagh, and the Moti Masjid – each space tells a different story with beautiful architecture and carvings.

A Fairytale Fortress Above the Clouds – My Visit to the Alcázar of Segovia
#summervacay #AlcazarOfSegovia #SegoviaCastle #FairytaleCastle #SpainLandmarks #SegoviaSpain #UNESCOSite #HistoricSpain #DayTripFromMadrid #SpanishArchitecture #CastleViews
Visiting the Alcázar of Segovia felt like walking into the pages of a fairytale. Perched high on a rocky cliff with sweeping views of the surrounding plains, the castle’s pointed turrets and stone walls looked straight out of a storybook—no wonder it’s said to have inspired Disney’s Cinderella Castle.
I arrived in the afternoon, and the sunlight cast a soft golden glow over the walls. As I explored the royal halls, armor displays, and stone corridors, I couldn’t help but imagine what life must’ve been like when kings and queens ruled from here. The Hall of Kings was particularly striking, lined with detailed busts of Castilian royalty.
Climbing to the top of the tower was a bit of a workout, but the panoramic view of Segovia’s rooftops and the distant mountains made it absolutely worth it. It’s not just a historical monument—it’s an immersive journey through Spanish history and imagination.
Travel Tips & How to Get There:
• Best time to visit:
• Afternoon for lovely light and fewer tour groups.
• Try to stay until golden hour for the best photos.
• How to get there:
• From Madrid, take a high-speed train (AVE) to Segovia-Guiomar Station (~30 mins).
• Then take a bus or taxi to the old town.
• The Alcázar is about a 15-minute walk from Segovia Cathedral, slightly uphill.
• Tips:
• Buy tickets in advance if visiting during weekends or holidays.
• Don’t skip the tower climb—the views are spectacular.
• Bring a camera with a wide-angle lens—the exterior and views deserve it.
• Combine with a visit to the aqueduct and cathedral for a perfect day trip.
Waves of Stone – An Afternoon at Gaudí’s Casa Milà
#summervacay #CasaMila #LaPedrera #GaudiArchitecture #BarcelonaIcons #ModernismeCatalà #BarcelonaTravel #GaudiMasterpiece #UNESCOSite #BarcelonaArchitecture #GaudiTrail
I visited Casa Milà, also known as La Pedrera and was immediately drawn in by its undulating stone façade, which looks more like a sculpture than a building. There are no straight lines here—everything flows like waves, and it feels like Gaudí carved it out of a giant block of limestone using the sea as his muse.
Inside, the experience was just as fascinating. The central courtyards open up to the sky, flooding the interiors with light, while the apartment museum gave me a glimpse of what life was like in early 20th-century Barcelona. But the real highlight was the rooftop—with surreal chimneys that look like warriors guarding the city. The views of Passeig de Gràcia and the distant Sagrada Família were incredible in the golden afternoon light.
Casa Milà isn’t just a building—it’s an experience of imagination made solid, and every floor, stair, and arch tells part of that story.
Travel Tips & How to Get There:
• Best time to visit:
• Afternoon offers great lighting for the rooftop views and façade photos.
• Less crowded than mornings; easier to enjoy each section at your own pace.
• How to get there:
• Located on Passeig de Gràcia, one of Barcelona’s main boulevards.
• Easily accessible via Metro Line 3 or 5 to Diagonal Station (just a short walk).
• Tips:
• Book your ticket online to skip the queue.
• Don’t miss the audio guide—it adds a lot of context to the quirky design.
• The rooftop is the crown jewel, so make sure your camera is ready!
Where Two Worlds Collide – My Visit to the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba
#summervacay #MosqueCathedralCordoba #MezquitaCordoba #CordobaSpain #UNESCOSite #AndalusiaHeritage #HistoricArchitecture #IslamicArt #SpanishCathedrals #CulturalFusion #TravelSpain
Walking into the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba (La Mezquita) was surreal—a masterpiece where Islamic and Christian architecture intertwine under one roof. I visited in the morning, and stepping into the vast hall of red-and-white striped arches felt like entering a different world. It was calm, quiet, and utterly breathtaking.
The original mosque columns and horseshoe arches stretch out endlessly, creating a forest of stone that pulls you into history. Right in the center, the Christian cathedral rises, richly decorated and beautifully preserved. The contrast is stunning—and instead of clashing, the two styles complement each other in a way that feels completely unique.
It’s not just a building—it’s a timeline made of stone, a living reminder of Córdoba’s layered past. I took my time walking through the halls, looking up at the domes and soaking in the quiet grandeur. A must-see that leaves you in awe.
Travel Tips & How to Get There:
• Best time to visit:
• Early morning for fewer crowds and soft light coming through the arches.
• How to get there:
• Located in the historic center of Córdoba.
• Easily accessible on foot from most attractions or by taxi from the train station.
• Tips:
• Book tickets online if you’re visiting in peak season.
• Don’t rush—take time to admire the arches and domes from different angles.
• Look out for the Mihrab, a stunning remnant of the mosque era.

With 275 separate cascades stretching nearly 3 kilometers through lush rainforest, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the largest and most majestic waterfall systems on Earth.

Located within the Iguazú National Park, the area is teeming with biodiversity—expect to spot toucans, monkeys, butterflies, and coatis along the trails. Adventure seekers can take boat rides into the heart of the falls or trek through the surrounding jungle.

🇨🇳 My Day Exploring Dujiangyan with a Local Guide
#localtourguides #100waysoftravel
My unforgettable day in Dujiangyan, guided by a local expert, began with a visit to the renowned Dujiangyan Panda Base. It was a joy to see giant pandas up close, roaming in their well-maintained habitats, which offered a glimpse into ongoing conservation efforts aimed at preserving these magnificent creatures.
After meeting the pandas, we headed to the ancient Dujiangyan Irrigation System. This UNESCO World Heritage site, established in 256 BC, showcases an impressive feat of engineering that has been pivotal in flood prevention and agricultural irrigation over the centuries. Walking through this historical marvel, I gained a deep appreciation for China’s rich engineering history and cultural depth.
We also strolled across the scenic Nanqiao Bridge in the center of Dujiangyan. This beautiful bridge, with its traditional architectural features, provided perfect photo opportunities and a peaceful moment to take in the local ambiance.
To cap off the day, I savored the local flavors of Sichuan with a spicy hotpot meal, followed by a variety of mouth-watering skewers. The food was not only delicious but also an essential part of the cultural experience, highlighting the region’s culinary heritage.
This day tour of Dujiangyan was a perfect blend of nature, history, and cuisine, making it a memorable part of my visit to Chengdu.

Trogir: A Hidden Gem on Croatia’s Coastline
Trogir stole my heart with its charming medieval streets and Trogir: A Hidden Gem on Croatia’s Coastlinecrystal-clear waters. Staying at the lovely apartment, I was just a short walk from the UNESCO-listed Old Town. The town’s architecture is a stunning mix of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles, and the Cathedral of St. Lawrence was an absolute must-see. Aswan, Abu Simbel, Sharm-El-Sheikh
Egypt Part 2
This country has too much to see and too little time for everything!
Breathtaking views, nature and UNESCO sites to see.
Aswan has the beautiful Nile River that you can enjoy by felucca ride or motorboat. Take a trip to the Nubian Village to see the colorful houses and restaurants, walk through the market and smell the different spice. The people of the Nubian Village are so friendly. Eat lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants, you won't regret it the food is fresh and tasty. Something that we regret was not sleeping there for a night that would've been great.
We went to see the UNESCO site Abu Simbel that's a 3 and half hour ride from Aswan and 3 and half hours back but definitely worth it to go see, if you are not up for the ride there is a flight of 45 minutes that you can take as well.
After all the exploring and site seeing we were ready to chill and relax on the beach. We booked into a resort in Sharm-El-Sheikh that was all inclusive. Seeing the Red Se in all it's glory is breathtaking, it's so blue and clear. We had a wonderful time here; swimming, snorkeling, drinking and eating.
Go explore Egypt, you won't regret it!

Chew Jetty, A UNESCO Heritage Site
#2023travelwish #penang #malaysia #unesco #cultural #educational #unescosite
Penang is a place located north of the capital of KL, when visiting penang, one should head to the Chew Jetty which is a UNESCO Heritage Site where its still currently one of the busiest jetty among one of the many other jetties here in penang.
The Chew Jetty is located at Weld Quay, where you will notice many wooden stilted houses where most of it is built over the penang River water. You will be able to understand the cultural aspect and read about the 1st few Chinese penang immigrants.
This would be ideal if Italy would be a choice to head to for my travel wish! Since Italy has the most number of UNESCO sites there!

No summer journey to Beijing is complete without stepping through the Meridian Gate aka Wu Gate—the monumental southern entrance to the Palace Museum, better known as the Forbidden City. Towering and majestic, it’s the architectural prelude to China’s imperial heart.
As the only public entry into the Forbidden City, Wu Gate is more than a gate—it’s a ceremonial statement. With sweeping eaves, elaborate dougong brackets, and vermilion pillars under a golden-glazed roof, it showcases the pinnacle of Ming and Qing architectural mastery. Once a stage for imperial proclamations and ceremonies, today it welcomes global visitors into a realm of dynastic legacy and imperial art.

UNESCO HERITAGE MELAKA
Visited Melaka after 3 long years. The last time I visited was in 2019, pre-covid.
Post Covid, Melaka retains it's charm. it is less crowded but nothing much has changed. The same Red Square, same St Paul Hill, same delicious food, flashy trishaws..
Same friendly people, same laid-back and relax atmosphere where life and pacebof life comes to almost a stand still.
I m glad that Melaka has not change much in the last decade that I visited almost every half year. I hope it remains so and retains it's old world charm...and it UNESCO HERITAGE Site charm...
Old is gold and it's so true and apt for Melaka
