Porto’s Postcard Perfect Pair – Cais da Ribeira & Luís I Bridge

This was one of those places that made me stop and say: “Wow, this is Portugal.” I spent a golden afternoon strolling along Cais da Ribeira, Porto’s colorful riverside promenade, and was completely swept up by its charm. Lined with historic townhouses, cafes, and wine bars, the atmosphere was lively but laid-back—locals chatting, musicians playing, and boats bobbing along the Douro River.
The real show-stealer? The Dom Luís I Bridge towering above, an iron masterpiece designed by a student of Gustave Eiffel. I walked across the lower deck first, then later went up to the upper deck for jaw-dropping views of the river, old town, and Vila Nova de Gaia on the opposite bank. Watching the sun set over Porto from up there was simply unforgettable.
It’s not just beautiful—it’s the soul of the city, and easily one of my favorite memories of Porto.
Travel Tips & How to Get There:
• Best time to visit:
• Afternoon into sunset for the best lighting and riverside atmosphere.
• Evening lights on the bridge and buildings make it magical.
• How to get there:
• From São Bento Station, it’s about a 10-minute walk downhill through the old town.
• You can also take the Funicular dos Guindais or walk from Clérigos area.
• Tips:
• Cross both levels of the Luís I Bridge—the upper deck is pedestrian-friendly and offers the best views.
• Great spot to grab a drink or meal by the river, but it gets busy—come early if you want a good seat.
• For amazing photos, stand on the Vila Nova de Gaia side and shoot back toward Ribeira.

📍 North Bund, Shanghai ✨ Skyline strolls & riverside vibes
Hidden between the glittering skyscrapers of Lujiazui and the historic charms of the Bund, the North Bund is where old Shanghai meets its future. With fewer crowds but just as much wow, this area offers some of the best panoramic views of the city skyline—especially at sunset.
🚶♂️ Start with a walk along the newly revitalized riverside promenade. It’s perfect for golden hour photos, romantic strolls, or just soaking up the mix of colonial architecture and sleek modern towers.
☕ Stop for coffee or dinner at one of the riverside cafes or rooftop restaurants—you’ll feel like you’ve found your own secret slice of Shanghai.
🌉 At night, the skyline lights up, reflecting off the water with a quiet elegance that rivals the main Bund.
Unlike its more famous counterpart across the river, the North Bund is relaxed, local, and full of surprises. A place to breathe, wander, and rediscover the city.
📸 Pro tip: Head to the Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal park for uninterrupted skyline shots!
