🍔 A Taste of Home – Breakfast at McDonald’s Fukushima
Our family has always loved McDonald’s breakfast in Singapore, so during our stay in Fukushima, we were curious to see how the Japanese version compared. We headed over to the Iriecho branch, which was easy to get to and had plenty of parking right outside—a huge plus for those driving.
The outlet wasn’t crowded when we visited, so we had a peaceful, relaxing breakfast. We ordered our usual favourites: hotcakes, sausage muffins, and the big breakfast set. The best part? The taste was nearly identical to what we get back home, which was honestly a pleasant surprise—it felt like a familiar morning ritual, just in a different country.
What made this branch stand out, though, was learning that they proudly source some of their ingredients from local farmers. That little detail gave the whole meal an added layer of appreciation. Knowing that our breakfast was supporting the local agricultural community made the experience feel even more wholesome and connected to the region.
If you’re on the road in Fukushima and craving a quick, affordable, and satisfying breakfast, this McDonald’s checks all the boxes—with a nice local touch.

🍣 Sushiro at Its Best – Fresh, Fast, and Worth Every Yen in Fukushima
When the first Sushiro opened in Singapore, the queues were insane—and we always wondered if it lived up to the hype. So now that we’re actually in Japan, we knew we had to give it a proper try on its home turf—and we’re really glad we did.
This particular branch in Fukushima (Asahicho) was in a very convenient location, and parking was a breeze with ample lots just outside the shop. The setup was clean and efficient, and we didn’t have to wait long at all to be seated, which was a nice change from the long lines back home.
We ordered a wide variety of sushi, and each one impressed us. The quality of the ingredients and the flavour were noticeably better than what we’d experienced in Singapore. The fish was fresher, the rice was seasoned just right, and even the side dishes were on point.
And then there’s the price—so much more affordable here in Japan! It almost felt like a steal for the kind of quality we got.
No, we’re not native Japanese and we’re not pretending to be sushi connoisseurs, but the difference in taste and value was clear. This visit definitely reminded us that sometimes, you really have to try something at the source to truly appreciate it.

🍚 Post-Castle Comfort – Quick & Tasty Stop at Yoshinoya Nihonmatsu
After visiting the Nihonmatsu Castle Ruins, we were looking for a quick and reliable lunch stop—and Yoshinoya never disappoints. We pulled into the Fukuoka-440 Yui branch, and as expected, it was a smooth and fuss-free experience.
Parking was super convenient, with spaces located right outside the shop—perfect for a quick stop when you’re on a road trip or just passing through. Inside, everything was straightforward. You simply place your order at the counter and they hand you a buzzer. Once it goes off, just head back and collect your tray.
We went for the classic beef bowl (gyudon)—always satisfying and great value for money. The portions were generous, the beef was flavorful and tender, and it hit the spot after a wet, chilly walk at the castle ruins. It’s the kind of comfort food you can count on, especially when traveling with family.
Yoshinoya might be a chain, but it’s exactly the kind of simple, consistent, and affordable meal that makes traveling around Japan so easy. No surprises—just good food, fast service, and plenty of convenience.

A warm local Chinese restaurant in Nishigo Village, Shimi-saikan
#EnjoyJapan
I had dinner at "Shimisaikan" in Saigo Village, Fukushima Prefecture!
It's a restaurant loved by locals for its relaxed atmosphere that gives off the feeling of a traditional Chinese restaurant.
This time I ordered chili shrimp and fried tofu with thickened sauce.
The chili shrimp was plump and sweet, so it was fine even for those who don't like spicy food.
The fried tofu with thickened sauce had crunchy and chewy noodles with plenty of filling...I enjoyed the different textures and was very satisfied!
The chef is cooking by himself, so make sure you have plenty of time to go!
The deliciousness is worth it♪
