Spending time at alternative cultural spots like Holzmarkt 25 allowed me to experience the city’s creative and free-spirited atmosphere. The East Side Gallery is the longest continuous section of the Berlin Wall remains. You’ll find the most famous Fraternal Kiss in the middle of the gallery, where you’ll find the longest queue for a pic. Definitely a not-to-be-missed historical landmark in Berlin! Here I’ll also leave some tips for traveling around Berlin for first-time tourists: - highly recommend to stay near the Potsdamer Platz, with direct access to the Bradenburger Gate, Memorial to the M******* Jews and the Reichstag Building (REMEMBER TO MAKE AN ONLINE RESERVATION TO VISIT THE DOME for a stunning view of the city! It’s FREE). Also extremely convenient to take the S/U-bahn and the tram to any other part of the city. Overall a very central, convenient and safe area with hotel choices of a wide budget range - transportation-wise, the day passes grant you access to all sorts of transportation in the city, like the trains, trams and buses. No need to drive at all if you’re visiting Berlin in my opinion - if you love good food, Berlin is a great place to go among German cities, as it’s a cosmopolitan city with culinary options from all over the globe. What can I say about Berlin? Regularly, I’m asked what is the best place that I’ve visited? It’s a tough question. There’s so many beautiful and awesome places that I’ve been to, that it’s so hard to choose just one. But as a city destination, Berlin would be right up there near the top of the list. Why? It is a unique place that pretty much has everything. The history, the architecture, the culture and a pretty awesome lifestyle. It’s a city that doesn’t sleep, but in a cool way. There’s always something new to discover in every nook and cranny within the city. Berlin has certainly had its lows as well as its highs. The city had to endure the end of World War 2, and the destruction that followed. Afterwards, the city was cruelly split into two, where West Berlin could thrive and East Berlin was left under the influence of the Soviet Union. In 1989, that all changed. A year later, in 1990, the city and country were officially reunified once again. Everything that Berlin has been through has made it the city that it is today. Make sure you visit the museum quarter whilst in Berlin, and head to the Pergamum Museum to see the Ishtar Gate. For food, currywurst is a must. But you’ve also got to try Burgermeister. A burger chain that has converted some quirky places into Burger joints. Great tucked away cafe - nice place to sit for a while after walking around the city all morning. The coffee is absolutely excellent coffee. I normally order cappuccino with extra hot milk. The pastries are delicious, too. The prices might seem a bit above the average, but it's absolutely worth that! I'd like to remark that the music could be turned down a bit. When sitting inside, it gets too loud when the sounds of the music playing, batista working and coffee lovers talking come together. Otherwise it's absolutely perfect. The restaurant attached to the Telegraphenamt Hotel is located in the atrium of the courtyard surrounded by the hotel rooms, and the light pouring in from the ceiling makes for a pleasant space. The painted pendant lighting was impressive and nice. Large palm trees and greenery act as natural partitions, and like the hotel, the warm colors of the old building and brick walls create a cozy space. They actually have two locations, and I went to the one located on a street filled with boutique shops. On a weekday morning, Berlin's cafés tend to be relatively quiet, making for a particularly leisurely experience. The café offers a wide variety of cakes, and I chose a round cheesecake—it looked really charming and playful. I watched the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra performance on October 19th. I still feel the afterglow of the emotion, so I feel goosebumps while writing this post. After the performance, conductor Sakari Oramo is receiving applause. If you go to Berlin, Germany, a Philharmonic performance is a must-see. The Berlin Philharmonic is located close to Potsdamer Platz, right next to the Sony Center. It is the main part of the Culture Forum, where art performance halls are gathered, and there is a bus stop attached to it. You can reserve performances on the website, and they are much cheaper than in Korea. The coffee is well made, but a little thin and bitter. I didn't get to examine the beans. I'll head back for an espresso to get micro. The toast was lovely, and if the abundant chervil had tasted like chervil, we'd be talking 5* with all kinds of bullets. Not their fault. Even having chervil is exciting in this stättle. The broccoli was seared, not charred? Small point, big difference in the flavour stakes. The avocado was good, which a local tells me is as rare as chervil. We passed by this shop yesterday when wandering around Hackescher Market and were attracted to the vibe and the loveliness of the space. We went to the shop this morning and ordered a latte and a cappuccino. However, I think their special coffees were a bit overpriced. I wanted to try Yemen coffee but it was 20€s. So I went with flat white and iced latte. Both were quite tasty. We enjoyed our coffee and it was a good way to start a new day in Berlin.
