The village was full of tourists and locals as well. We walked around, had a taste of the pastries and cakes in the locals bakeries. We then took the lift reaching the alps and it felt like we were above the clouds. the experience was truly amazing 🤩. Looking at those stunning views!

Where to learn about Jeanne d’Arc in Rouen
#westerneurope #rouen #europe #normandy #france
I visited the Historial Jeanne d’Arc in Rouen, and it honestly surprised me with how immersive and well put together it was. It’s set inside the old Archbishop’s Palace, which already adds a lot of atmosphere, but the real highlight is how the museum tells the story.
Instead of reading panels or staring at glass cases, you follow a path through different rooms where a combination of video projections, lighting, and sound recreates Joan of Arc’s trial. You hear voices of the judges, witnesses, and Joan herself, and the whole thing unfolds like a documentary but in a historic setting. It’s really engaging without feeling overdone.
The museum focuses mainly on the trial and her legacy, using original transcripts and a lot of dramatic storytelling. It’s not flashy, but it feels powerful and very human. You leave with a clearer picture of who she was and how complex that whole moment in history really was. Definitely worth a visit if you want something beyond just facts—a real experience.

A Royal Escape: Visiting the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye
#westerneurope Just 30 minutes from central #Paris, the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye is a stunning hidden gem that blends royal history, panoramic views, and ancient treasures — all in one elegant escape from the city.
Built initially in 1124 by King Louis VI and later transformed into a Renaissance masterpiece under François I, the château has seen everything from royal births (like Louis XIV) to exiled kings. Today, it houses the Musée d’Archéologie Nationale, one of the most important archaeological museums in #France, with artifacts ranging from prehistoric tools to Gallo-Roman sculptures.
🚉 How to Get There
Getting there is super easy. Take the RER A toward Saint-Germain-en-Laye and ride it to the final stop. From the station, it’s just a 2-minute walk to the château. Along the way, you’ll pass charming cafés and patisseries — perfect for grabbing a croissant before your visit.
🎟️ Ticket Price
Entry to the permanent collections is free for everyone. Temporary exhibitions cost €6 (or €4 at a reduced rate). Admission is also free on the first Sunday of each month and always free for EU residents under 26 years old.
🏛️ Why Visit?
Aside from the museum, the château’s architecture alone is a reason to come. The building surrounds an open courtyard and is framed by majestic arcades and ornate stonework. Behind the château lies a spectacular French formal garden designed by André Le Nôtre — the same genius behind the gardens of Versailles — and a panoramic terrace that overlooks the Seine valley all the way to the Eiffel Tower.
💡 Pro Tip
Pack a picnic or grab food from the market square nearby, and enjoy a relaxing lunch in the gardens. If you’re lucky, you might catch a local festival or open-air concert in the park during summer weekends.
The Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye is more than just a day trip — it’s a journey through centuries of history, with fewer crowds than Versailles but all the magic of royal France. Would you go for the view, the history, or the peaceful garden vibes?
Charming church in Normandy
#westerneurope #normandy #europe #france
Church of Saint Valentin is a beautiful building in charming village of Jumieges - right next to the famous Abbey of Jumieges.
Of course, this church is much smaller yet it is absolutely beautiful and interior is quite interesting with some wooden details that I haven’t seen in any other churches in the surroundings.
The church is located on the cemetery, which is also very interesting because some gravestones date back to early 18th century.
The place is tranquil and calm, perfect spot to stop by and contemplate for a few minutes.
I absolutely recommend to drop by after visiting the Abbey cause this is another must see while you are in the area.
One of most beautiful abbeys in Normandy
#westerneurope #normandy #france #europe
Abbey of Saint Wandrille is absolutely recommended to visit as half of a day trip from Paris or Rouen.
Abbey is located in charming little village called Rives-en-Sein and it’s a beautiful historical and cultural landmark.
The admission is free (though, you have to pay if you’d like a guided tour) and there are a few buildings at the premises.
The main building is very impressive and features beautiful ruins, absolutely magical!
Smaller churches are humble yet tranquil and interesting to wonder inside and spend a few minutes contemplating.
Charming village in Normandy
#westerneurope #normandy #europe #france
River-en-Sein is a charming little village, home to Abbey of Saint Wandrille. The place is full of old traditional houses which are so adorably cute!
I loved to walk narrow streets of this sleepy tranquil village to discover all the little details and hidden spots.
The village absolutely worth spending half of an hour or so to wonder around after you see the abbey.
Tip: this place is difficult to reach by public transportation, car is essential.

Believe it or not, I explored #Sicily for under $100 — and I didn’t feel like I was missing a thing.
✈️ I flew from #France with a low-cost airline for just $15. Yes, really. That’s cheaper than a cocktail in Paris.
🍝 Once I arrived, I had incredible Sicilian food for less than $15/day — think fresh pasta, seafood, and sweet cannoli.
🚌 Getting around? Public buses to the beach or nearby villages cost $1 to $2.
🌊 Beaches like Mondello are free to access (unless you want to rent a sunbed, which is optional).
🏛 Many of Sicily’s historic gems are completely free: from walking through baroque town centers to visiting centuries-old churches, climbing coastal lookouts, or discovering ancient ruins hiding in plain sight.
I didn’t just save money — I gained memories. Wandering around little towns like Sferracavallo, soaking up golden sunsets, and enjoying authentic food with locals made this trip feel rich in every way that matters.

Notre-Dame Cathedral in Rouen
#westerneurope #rouen #normandy #france #europe
Cathedral de Notre-Dame of Rouen is a stunning gothic building, absolutely fascinating with a million details of its exterior.
I loved to just sit outside on the stone stairs and spend time watching all the intricate details of the facade! Interior of the place is solid and somewhat stern as many of the old European cathedrals. Stunning tho!
Keep in mind that it is an active church, so make sure to come in between the masses, so you won’t disturb the believers during the service.
The cathedral is free to visit!
From ossuary to school - history of one french cemetery
#westerneurope #rouen #normandy #france #europe
Aitre St Maclou is the oldest parish in Rouen, preserved and reconstructed to its original looks.
The place has a fascinating history: it started as a parish and a cemetery, turned into massive ossuary during the times of the plague and later on - a school.
The place is free to visit and you can read about its history and architecture details in French, English or German.
The yard is nice and shady, beautiful spot to sit for a few minutes and enjoy old traditional architecture.
A Small Episode in Cassis, South of France
Cassis, a small town that made me wonder, "Why am I only visiting the South of France now?" and at the same time think, "When will I come back here again?"✨ Located just 20-30 minutes from Marseille, Cassis was even more delightful for its accessibility!
1. Enjoying a cocktail at Cafe Glacier Liautaud
2. Encountering a stylish middle-aged couple at the café
3. It was too hot to bother with makeup, but I had to take a selfie.. 🥹
4. The picturesque Cassis harbor
5. Plage de la Grande Mer, the epitome of a perfect Mediterranean beach 🏖️

Lo Cagarol: Culinary Fireworks in Aigne’s Best-Kept Secret
Hidden in the charming village of Aignes, Lo Cagarol (named after the Occitan word for "snail") is a true gem for food lovers—a restaurant that delivers an unforgettable explosion of flavors from start to finish.
From the fresh oysters and signature snails, to the "bomba" of salt cod brandade topped with rich tomato coulis and a dramatic black aïoli, every dish surprises and delights. The turbot steak, seared scallops with truffle, and yakitori-glazed duck breast are cooked to perfection, while the chimichurri picanha brings a bold, smoky flair.
Desserts are equally stunning: an ethereal floating island with pink pralines and a divine baba au rhum to round off the meal in style.

Tucked behind the majestic Sacré-Cœur Basilica, you’ll find a little world that feels like stepping back in time—the Place du Tertre and its surrounding alleys, known as the heart of Montmartre’s bohemian spirit. This spot is where painters set up their easels every morning, turning the streets into an open-air gallery. #Paris #Montmartre #France
📖 A bit of history:
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Montmartre was home to artists like Picasso, Renoir, and Modigliani. Attracted by low rents and vibrant café culture, they turned the neighborhood into a creative hub. Today, local painters carry on that tradition, offering portraits and landscapes to visitors.
🚶♂️ How to access:
✔️ From Sacré-Cœur, walk behind the basilica to Place du Tertre—a 2-minute stroll.
✔️ For fewer crowds, take Rue des Saules, a charming street lined with old houses and vineyards.
🍷 Tip: Pair your visit with a coffee at a classic café like La Bonne Franquette, a favorite haunt of Monet and Van Gogh.
I stayed nearby with Trip.com, which made it easy to explore early in the day before the crowds. Visiting Montmartre’s artist alleys is like stepping into a living painting.

Sacré-Cœur: One of Europe’s Most Breathtaking Churches and How to Visit Safely
The Sacré-Cœur Basilica in #Paris is, without a doubt, one of the most spectacular churches in Europe. Perched on top of Montmartre hill, it offers not only incredible architecture but also panoramic views of the city. #France #SacréCœur
📖 A bit of history:
Built between 1875 and 1914, Sacré-Cœur was constructed as a symbol of hope and reconciliation after the Franco-Prussian War. Its dazzling white exterior comes from travertine stone, which releases calcite to keep it bright even with age.
🚶♂️ How to access safely:
✔️ The easiest and safest way is to take the funicular from Place Saint-Pierre—it’s included in a metro ticket and avoids the steep stairs where pickpockets often linger.
✔️ Alternatively, climb up Rue du Chevalier-de-la-Barre, a quieter street with fewer crowds.
📌 Tip: Stay alert around the basilica and avoid anyone offering “friendship bracelets” near the stairs.
I booked a hotel nearby with Trip.com, which made it easy to explore Montmartre early in the morning before the crowds arrived. Visiting Sacré-Cœur is a must for anyone wanting to feel the soulful side of Paris.
Paris Felt Safer and Cleaner Than Ever During the Olympics: My Tips for 2025
Paris has always been one of Europe’s most visited cities, but during the 2025 Olympics, it truly felt like a transformed capital. Walking through the streets, I noticed how clean and organized the city felt. Public spaces were well maintained, and there was a noticeable presence of security, making it easy to explore even late at night. #Paris #France #Olympics2025
There were fewer people sleeping on the streets, and I didn’t come across groups of illegal migrants in the central areas. This gave the city a calm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for first-time visitors.
📌 Tips for tourists:
✔️ Stay in central arrondissements like the 1st, 4th, or 17th for easy access and a safe environment.
✔️ Take advantage of increased public transport options and Olympic shuttles.
✔️ Plan visits to major sights early in the day to avoid crowds.
I booked my hotel near the Seine with Trip.com, and it couldn’t have been more convenient for exploring. If you’re wondering whether Paris is worth visiting now, the answer is a definite yes—it feels more welcoming and polished than ever.
