Medellín, Colombia
The past few weeks still feel like a dream. I can’t believe I visited Colombia.
From paragliding over mountains to climbing a rock 2,000 feet above sea level—every moment felt surreal. Medellín was full of color, coffee, and a kind of warmth that made it easy to feel at home, even so far away.
I came back changed in quiet ways I didn’t expect. Still processing it all, but mostly just grateful.

Hilton Cartagena: Hotel Review - A Beachfront Resort Perfect for Families
【Prime Beachfront Location】
The hotel is located right in front of Cartagena's beach! With ocean views from the rooms, the resort vibe is at its peak.
【Well-Equipped Pools】
Multiple pools are available, including ones for adults, children, and a jacuzzi. Both kids and adults can enjoy them, and we used them several times during our stay.
【Classic Room Ambiance】
The interior is slightly dated but clean. The beds are incredibly comfortable, living up to Hilton's reputation.
【Breakfast with Local South American Fruits】
The breakfast buffet offers a wide variety, especially the fruits. Passion fruits, guavas, and other exotic options not commonly found in Japan were delightful.
【Reliable Staff Support】
Many staff members speak English, making it easy to arrange tours and taxis. It's a convenient hotel for sightseeing.
[Salvio Parque 93 Bogota Curio Collection by Hilton] Hotel Review: The best beds in a fashionable city
[Bed is the best]
The mattress was the best I've ever had in a hotel I've stayed at. The two large queen beds were very spacious and made for a very comfortable stay.
[Abundant restaurants within walking distance]
The hotel faces a park called Parque93, and there are many restaurants around the park. It was very convenient, with everything from coffee shops to Japanese restaurants.
[Relatively safe location]
In large cities in South America, security issues are a concern, but Parque93 is in a relatively safe area, and even at night there are families and couples walking around the restaurants. This is my personal opinion, but I never felt particularly unsafe during my four-day stay. Of course, it's better to be careful about your safety.
[Breakfast with vibrant colors]
The breakfast buffet doesn't have a wide variety of items, but it has a variety of rare South American items, such as fruits I've never seen before. There is also an a la carte menu other than the buffet, so you can order egg dishes from there.
[Attentive service]
They frequently refilled our coffee, and when I asked for boiled eggs for my child, which were not on the menu, they gladly accommodated.

Focus on: best beach in Colombia!
Tayrona Beach in Tayrona National Park is a hidden gem I’m so glad I found. I actually camped right by the beach, which was such a cool experience. The hike to get there was a bit tough, but the beach was totally worth it—clear water, soft sand, and surrounded by mountains. It was so peaceful, with just the sound of waves and birds.
It gets pretty hot, so make sure to bring water, sunscreen, and wear comfy shoes for the hike. There aren't many places to stay, so I recommend booking ahead. The best part for me was waking up to the ocean right there—super relaxing and quiet.
I really loved the whole vibe there. If you're looking for a chill spot with stunning views and a real connection to nature, this beach is perfect.

Hidden gem of Colombia
The Tatacoa Desert is amazing if you're looking for something off the beaten path. It’s not heavily developed, so don’t expect many facilities—bring everything you might need. That said, it’s a great place to camp under the stars. The desert’s surreal landscape, with its red and gray rock formations, is perfect for exploring by foot or even by bicycle.
Tip: it is easy to get lost. Seriously, he doesn't look like it's a dangerous place but when you walking in this maze for a few hours - it's really easy to get lost and lose sense of directions. Cellular connection isn't great, so make sure you have all your maps off-line on your GPS navigator does work, and bring lots of water and sunscreen.
It’s one of the best spots in Colombia for stargazing. The sky is incredibly clear.
It’s definitely worth the visit, especially if you enjoy peace and nature.

History and Adventure
#beachlife
If you are into laid back vibes and backpacker destinations. Then, just like me, you are very likely to overstay your time in Santa Marta. It's a beautiful colonial city surrounded by lovely beaches, architecture and nature attractions. I like that it offers an authentic south american beach experience along with city comforts.
There are museums, markets, and an excellent dance scene for those who enjoy letting it lose. For many people this alone is enough to spend all their holiday time. But the beaches in town are worthy of your time too. El Rodadero is the place to be for beach parties, and the shore of nearby Taganga is a Caribbean paradise.
Tayrona National Park is a must visit when in Santa Marta. Exquisite and truly wild, the park opens its door to South American beach experiences that you can brag about. The clear water, lush hills, and a feeling of being one with nature around you. Some of the most scenic beaches, like Playa Brava, require a bit of hiking to access, but hey nothing good comes your way with no effort. And that hike can be rewarding as very few are likely to. So no chance of crowd!

A getaway
#beachlife
For those who have been to Colombia will agree that cartagena is one of Colombia’s most beautiful cities. It's the amalgamation of traditional charm with colonial architecture, modern infrastructure, and natural beauty.
The weather in Cartagena is always great for a day at the beach, and the water is warm, clear, and calm. Beaches like Playa Castillo Grande and Playa de Bocagrande are little oasis that you can stop by whenever you need a break from sampling food and culture in the city.
Pero there’s more to this Colombian city than the beaches you can see from your window. The Rosario Islands, a chain of small islands just off the coast, can be quickly reached by boat for an even more immersive tropical experience. Isla Barú and Isla Grande are two popular choices, but any Rosario Islands tour is bound to give you plenty of time to kick back on some pristine beaches.
So while retaining city comforts and a good dose of culture you get to enjoy a beach holiday too. I don't see anyone complaining.#beachlife #citybeach #colombia

When people go to Colombia, they mostly go to the big cities like Bogota, Cartagena, Medellin, Santa Marta etc, but rarely do people visit smaller towns where you get to experience the most local life and the most original Colombian flavour.
This tower in Filandia takes about 15 minutes to walk up, and then you can have a bird’s eye view of the entire city in 360 degree.

The most beautiful island in Colombia ~ Isla del Rosario
On Christmas Day 2018, I came to this small island with two friends. It is located in Rosario, a small island near the coastal city of Cartagena in northern Colombia.
This is my first time visiting an island in South America. It is really hard to describe. I have never seen such a beautiful, clear, vast, light blue sea. Totally in love with this place.
This island is very simple. There are not many hotels or B&Bs, and there are no buses. People who live here all get around by bicycle. There are not many restaurants, and they close early in the evening. There is almost no nightlife here. It is a very natural island.
Since I came here during winter and Christmas, there were not many tourists. Although it is winter, the temperature is like summer.
My favorite is a small shop on the beach. In the afternoon, I can sleep in their hammocks and slowly enjoy the sea view and drinks. Coco lemonade is very delicious. I will never find the same taste in other cities in Colombia.
Transportation Guide-Take a boat from Cartagena Pier. Tickets can be purchased at the pier.
Hotel - 20euro (hostel 4 bed room)
Food - Coco lemonnada
