Rooftop Reverie: Capturing Quanzhou’s Soul at Golden Hour
#springitinerary #discoverchina #fujian #sunnyday
From the unassuming rooftop of West Street Visitor Center, Quanzhou reveals its magic trick – how a bustling modern city still orbits around its medieval twin stars. Arrive an hour before sunset when the light turns the pagodas to burnished gold, your camera poised where few tourists think to climb.
The vantage offers a visual feast: swallows darting between 13th-century minarets, laundry fluttering from Ming Dynasty rooftops, and the hypnotic ballet of electric scooters weaving through Song Dynasty alleyways below. Time your descent with the lighting of lanterns along West Street, where generations of shopkeepers still trade in lacquerware and oyster omelets.
‼️Don’t miss the third-floor observation deck’s augmented reality screens that resurrect the port’s glory days – suddenly those twin towers are back in 1271, surrounded by Persian traders and Yuan Dynasty dockworkers.

The Wuyi tea region is known for its distinct terroir, with tea bushes growing on mountain slopes, resulting in unique flavors and high-quality teas like Da Hong Pao (Big Red Robe). Dingwuling🌳🍁The remaining charm of the countryside
#TravelChina
Dingwuling Village is about 30 minutes from Changting City.
Hire a car with a driver from the hotel. The route to the village is well-built.
There is no entrance fee here. It is not difficult to walk around because there are only two main routes in the village. It takes 2-3 hours to walk around.
The village is in a valley with dense green trees.
Most of the houses are made of earth and wood. There is a smell of moisture floating along the stone paths in the village, creating a mysterious feeling to the place.
A must-see spot is the ancient wooden house by the pond and the high-angle viewpoint of the village. The real thing is much more beautiful than in the picture. It is a beautiful image that captivates the hearts of those who come to see it.
The village also has villagers and rural lifestyles for you to experience.
There are delicious local foods for you to try.
I am glad to have visited. Thank you, Dingwuling, for giving us such a good impression.🥰

🏯Changting Old Town 🎆 Come see the city walls!
Changting Old Town is an inner city of Fujian Province.
The original land of the Hakka people.
There is a beautiful and relatively complete ancient city wall here.
We can walk along the wall along the Tingjiang River, see the Jichuanmen Gate, Baxilou Museum, Taiping Bridge, ShuiDongjie Food Street, and there are many places to walk around in the old town.
The view from the wall is very beautiful. During the day, you can see the river and the old-style tourist boats. At night, the lights are beautifully turned on. On the wall, there are trees, pavilions, and retro lamp posts. In the morning, people come to exercise. Grandmas and aunties come to do aerobics.
Oh! The food in this city is very delicious. Don't miss eating noodles here!

A Temple in the Clouds
⛩️ Breathtaking views of a temple hanging high up on a cliff side
⛰️ Incredible hike that includes multiple ladders with even more views at the peak
🥾 Temple hike is friendly to all ages and abilities, peak hike not so much
🏨 Hotel available at base
📸 Photogenic scenery that’s IG friendly
🌤️ Fun in all weather
Lingtongshan is a must see no matter the weather if you’re in the Xiamen/Zhangzhou area. I’ve done the hike in sun, rain, and heavy fog and each time is a unique, beautiful, and fun experience. Cost of entry is 20 yuan per person.
I’ve taken my 65 year old parents, friends who aren’t in the best shape, dog, and seen countless kids make the hike up the stairs to the temple. The temple portion is about a 30 minute trek and most people of any fitness level can make it. The hike that forks off and goes to the peak is more difficult and requires the ability to squeeze into tight spaces and climb ladders. Be aware if you bring your dog they’ll either need to fit in a bag or you’ll need another way to carry them up the ladders. Hike this portion at your own discretion. The peak hike would take an average group a little over an hour going up and a little less coming back down. Depending on who I hike with I’ve done it as fast as 40 minutes up though.
If you have a Chinese drivers license it’s highly recommended to rent a car and drive out to the mountain. The trip from Xiamen is beautiful in itself and you’ll have the flexibility of going/leaving when you want. Getting a DiDi or taxi is very difficult from the mountain so please be prepared ahead of time.
Welcome to Fujian and safe travels!

Unforgettable nights in Liancheng
Driving to Liancheng on the old state highway was a pleasant surprise. The countryside was absolutely picturesque, with hills, rice fields and charming little villages that made the journey fly by. Once we arrived, Guanzhai Mountain was our first stop. The views were stunning and the hike was both refreshing and peaceful.
But the real magic happened at night in Liancheng Square. We were completely blown away by the molten iron show and the incredible water and light displays. The historic buildings lit up beautifully, creating an enchanting atmosphere that felt straight out of a movie. And the best part? It was all for free! Liancheng is a hidden gem that left us truly amazed.

Yunshuiyao, heritage ancient town in Fujian
#freehotelstay
There are many preserved ancient towns in China (guzhen) which have become very touristy. At first glance, Yunshuiyao appears to be one of them, with loads of tourists and tour guides clambering about for photos. However, if you veer off the main area for a little wander, it's still possible to catch quiet glimpses of this charming water town by the world-renowned circular tulous.
A bit of background on Yunshuiyao:
🌳 The town is defined by the many ancient banyan trees growing by the river- there are 9 of them which are thousands of years old! See if you can spot the couple banyan tree by the main entrance to the village!
🎭 The town has been renamed after a famous Chinese movie that was filmed here over 15 years ago starring Vivian Hsu 🎥
While most of the houses by the river have been converted into gift shops and cafes, there are still residents living in the village, and you can see them carrying on with their day to day life, be it sunning chillies or tending to their gardens. Allow yourself to slow down and stroll, and just soak up the atmosphere, like the dog in the last picture 😉

Meet Xiamen again
Fujian
"Xiamen"
The central city in the Golden Triangle of southern Fujian is one of the first four special economic zones opened in mainland China and is also a famous hometown of overseas Chinese.
Green vegetation covers the entire city, making it an urban jungle, and also a jungle city; sea water flows around it, saying that the city is on the sea, or that the sea is in the city.
From a small fishing port to a modern port, it was the starting point for many people to choose to cross the ocean, and it is also the destination for how many people today decide to leave their hometown.

Chinese countryside life
Fujian tulou are traditional circular communal dwellings in China's Fujian province. These UNESCO World Heritage sites offer a glimpse into the unique lifestyle of the Hakka people. Primarily built between the 15th and 20th centuries, tulou served as fortified homes, providing safety and fostering community bonds. They often house multiple families and include features like a central courtyard, living quarters, and storage areas. While tourism has increased, some tulou continue to be inhabited, blending tradition with modern influences.
