🇨🇳 A Smart Stay in Shenzhen: My Experience at Hillman Hotel
#summervacay
During my recent trip to Shenzhen, I decided to try out the newly opened Hillman Hotel, located conveniently near the Jinguanghua International Trade area and just a short walk from Guomao Subway Station. It is also close to East Gate Pedestrian Street, making it great for evening strolls, local street food, and a bit of shopping.
I wasn’t expecting too much from a budget-friendly place, but I was pleasantly surprised by how modern and comfortable my stay turned out to be. What immediately stood out to me was how smart the room was. Everything from the lights to the air-conditioning could be controlled using voice commands. One of the coolest features was the in-room projector. Instead of a traditional TV, there was a projector that turned the wall into a cinema screen.
Now, to be fair — the room wasn’t huge. It’s definitely on the smaller side, especially if you’re traveling with large luggage or sharing the space. But for solo travelers who don’t plan to spend all day inside, it’s more than enough. Everything was laid out efficiently, and the design made smart use of the available space.

2. WANXIANG HIGH STREET
3. OCT HARBOUR
4. SEA WORLD SHENZHEN
5. CHANG AN TING YUAN HOTPOT
6. SHENZHEN BAY PARK/ SHENZHEN TALENT PARK
7. HONG ZHAN CENTRE CITY
Rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: 10/10
🇨🇳 Shenzhen is a city with both mountains and the sea🌊. It is also very close to Hong Kong. If you go to Sea World on the riverside, you can see Hong Kong. It's so close. Today, we would like to recommend a place to check out ✅ in 2025 that newbies should visit. There are also many beautiful places to take pictures. 📸 You can walk around all day without getting bored. I guarantee that anyone who goes there will definitely fall in love with this city. It's worth visiting Shenzhen.
P.S. The Chinese people are very good-looking. They look better than Shanghai people. 🥹
The people are very kind. Even though they can't speak English with us, they try their best to communicate without getting angry.
⚠️Warning: For transportation, I recommend only calling Didi because taxis in Shenzhen almost never use the meter. They will only ask for a flat rate. The starting price is about 100¥. And if the location you are going to is near a taxi, I won't go with you. I recommend calling through the app. It's more comfortable + easy on the wallet. You don't risk being charged extra. 🚕 😂

Unbelievable Shenzhen, A Cheaper Hong Kong! Top Low Budget Trip
Shenzhen has been my home for almost 6 years now and I honestly thing it’s one of the best untapped travel destinations out there, it is one of the most advanced cities in the world but the cost of living and visiting is still really low. It rivals the modernity and diversity of Hong Kong but at a fraction of the cost, you can even do it in a day trip from Hong Kong as it’s so close! China has opened up to tourism recently and is offering a lot of countries visa free access or extended transfer visas (Check to see if your country has been added to the list!)
⭐️ Airport - It is located to the west of the city and is on the express metro line that takes you through the main urban areas, connecting at the mega hubs of Futian & Gangxia. You can use apple pay, Qr code or use cash to buy tokens
⭐️ Train - Shenzhen is connected to the rest of china and also HK via high speed rail, they depart and arrive at Futian, or Shenzhen North station - both of which are connected to the metro. Foriegners can use these services, book via trip and scan your passport at ticket gates - you no longer need to collect paper tickets!
⭐️ Accommodation - Hotels in Shenzhen are a lot cheaper than Hong Kong, but if you want to travel on a lower budget I’d advice the local chains such as Atour, True Go & Vienna hotels - they can cost as little as $30 per night and offer basic but comfortable rooms in good locations. (All close to metro)
⭐️ Travel - This is where China really excels, the metro in Shenzhen is one of the biggest in the world and one of the cheapest. You can travel anywhere in the city for less than $2 and the trains are every minute or so, with full air conditioning and most stations have toilets / wifi. Didi is the ride hailing app and that is also very cheap, around $8 for a half an hour taxi ride
⭐️ Food - There is so much cheap food here you will be spoiled for choice, the older areas of Dongmen & Laojie in Luohu offer some of the best authentic street food and canteen style restaurants. Then areas such as Nanshan, Chegongmeow & Fumin have lots of food streets with every style of Chinese food from all 6 major regions. Dishes can start at $1 and portions are generous.
⭐️ Attractions - Shenzhen is a super green city and most of it’s main attractions are based around nature and the outdoors, especially hiking, cycling and beaches - all of which are free! Other than that the few exhibits and galleries that there are are super cheap!
I would really recommend Shenzhen to anyone as an entry to China as it’s one of the most modern and easiest cities to navigate, it also has so many incredible landmarks to really help you understand the success of this metropolis!

Butterful & Creamorous
A popular café among Chinese foodies, offering a wide variety of desserts. Whether you're into chocolate, cheese, fruits, or tarts, there's something for everyone here. If you're feeling low on sugar, this is the place to be! The prices are reasonable, the portions are large, and the flavors are excellent. The café is always bustling with people. I got two chocolate desserts, and just one piece was enough to fill me up—it’s big and worth the price. There’s seating available for dining and taking photos, and it seems like 90% of the people in the area are carrying bags of goodies from this café.
Prices start at around ~60, and my order was a little over ~200.

Lovely sunset stroll in Shenzhen’s Qianhai
After a long day of meetings this was the perfect way to wind down and relax. Qianhaishi Park in Shenzhen was right across from my hotel so it was an easy walk to get here right in time for sunset.
It was so nice watching the lights change across the water. The breeze in the area made it a very comfortable stroll and the live music and food stalls we came across made the experience even better. Even though there were a lot of people in the park, it never felt crowded and I had a wonderful time.
This was definitely one of the nicest moments of my work trip over the week! 🌅

Dressing up as Ancient Chinese princess in Shenzhen 🇨🇳
Nanyao Yijing Palace dining show is located in the Nanshan area in Shenzhen. The dinner starts at 7:30 but people started arriving as soon as 5:30 to get glammed up 💋💄.
I would recommend arriving earlier so that you have a wider array of costumes to choose from. And even if you finished getting ready early, there are different booths set up where you can gamble for gold coins💰🤑.
At around 7:15, the crowd started moving to the dining area, the waiters and waitresses started serving us food the minute we sat down. The food is definitely not the best but it’s so decent for the price. We paid around $450 HKD for the dinner, exclusive of the costumes and hair.
The production of the show is good and very visually stunning; and at the end it turns into like a nightclub vibe which was so bizarre 😂.
I definitely recommend this experience if you’re visiting Shenzhen!

🇨🇳 Crispy Perfection: Roast Goose at Shenjing Village (Guomao Branch)
#summervacay
Dining at 深井村烧鹅 (Shenjing Village Roast Goose – Guomao Branch) was a flavorful journey into classic Cantonese cuisine. Nestled in the heart of Shenzhen’s Futian District, the restaurant has a clean, modern interior that’s both stylish and comfortable.
I ordered their signature roast goose, and it absolutely lived up to the hype — the skin was perfectly crisp, the meat juicy and tender, and the plum sauce added a sweet-tangy contrast that brought it all together. I paired it with a simple bowl of rice, which let the rich flavor of the goose shine.
Service was attentive and friendly, and the whole dining experience felt relaxed and satisfying. Whether you're a fan of Cantonese food or just looking to try something authentic in Shenzhen, this spot is a must-visit.

🇨🇳 Dongmen Pedestrian Street
#summervacay
Dongmen Pedestrian Street (东门步行街) is one of Shenzhen’s most iconic and historic shopping destinations, located in the Luohu District. Established over 300 years ago, it has evolved into a bustling commercial hub that seamlessly blends traditional charm with modern retail experiences. Dongmen is easily accessible via public transportation. The Laojie Station on Shenzhen Metro Lines 1 and 3 is the most convenient stop, placing visitors right at the heart of the shopping district.
Often described as a "mall of shopping malls," Dongmen spans multiple blocks filled with a diverse array of retail options. Visitors can explore everything from trendy boutiques and brand-name stores to street vendors offering affordable fashion, electronics, and unique accessories. The area is known for its lively atmosphere, with narrow alleys and vibrant streets that capture the essence of Shenzhen's dynamic energy.

Dongmen, The One Stop Spot For All Your Shopping Needs In Shenzhen
Shenzhen maybe famous for its brand new malls and high end stores, but if your better doesn’t stretch to that ( like mine) you should head to Dongmen. Located in Louhu it’s one of the oldest shopping districts in the city and caters a lot more to locals, so prices are a lot lower and there’s a lot more choice than the malls.
Dongmen has amazing local clothes and shoe shops, particularly good for low price basics - stock up on all your smalls. I also love it for the homewares and basic cleaning essentials, a great place to stock up your pantry!
There are also lots of food options and pretty much every Chinese cuisine is covered, along with plenty of western options - the McDonald’s here was the first one to open in China back in the 80’s
If you want to see the ‘real’ Shenzhen this is the place for you, the closest to heritage and culture you’ll find in such a modern metropolis.

Shenzhen’s Hidden Gem: 人民公园 (People’s Park)
Stumbled upon this lovely park during our trip to Shenzhen and was pleasantly surprised — it’s completely free to enter, which makes it such a gem for both locals and tourists! We visited at the perfect time — end March, when the roses were in full bloom and the weather was just right: cool, sunny, and perfect for a slow afternoon stroll.
The rose garden was the highlight — bursts of color everywhere, with different varieties blooming side by side. It’s hard to believe this peaceful floral haven exists right in the heart of a bustling city. Definitely a place I’d revisit when in Shenzhen again!

Review of connecting flights at Shenzhen Bao'an Airport ✈️
✈️ Hello, today Gammy had the opportunity to transit the flight back to Bangkok from Nagoya Airport, stopping at Bao'an International Airport for 5 hours.
💼 Check-in baggage at the destination is very convenient ✅
🥖 The atmosphere in the airport is quiet because it is a fairly late flight. The journey to the game takes less than 1 hour. There are many duty-free shops. As for coffee shops, such as Starbucks, they are open 24 hours a day. There are also some restaurants open here and there.
🚽 The bathroom is clean. The housekeeper takes care of it all the time. It's comfortable.
🪑 There are many chairs to wait in, clean, and there are charging points in some places.

รีวิวต่อเครื่องกับสายการบิน Shenzhen Airline ✈️
✈️ Hello ... Today, Gammy would like to review a connecting flight with Shenzhen Airlines, operated by Air China 🇨🇳 This flight route, Gammy booked a return flight from Japan, Nagoya City, from Chubu Centrair International Airport - destination Bangkok - Suvarnabhumi Airport.
💼 You can check in 2 pieces of luggage, 23 kilograms per person.
✨ Check-in, you can choose your seat with the staff at the counter. The staff are friendly and provide good service. Check-in opens 2 hours before the actual flight time.
🫖 The food served on the flight from Japan is a set meal + dessert drink. You can choose chicken and fish. On the flight from Shenzhen back to Thailand, you will get a snack box.
✈️ It was a connecting flight that took less than 1 hour to go through immigration to the gate. But I'm not sure if it was normal or because the flight was late, so there were fewer people. Overall, it was very good.
💺 The seats were clean and quite wide. I slept comfortably.
👌🏻 Overall, it's a good choice. Because the price is not too expensive, 7,xxx- baht from Nagoya, including 2 bags, check-through style, very convenient and worth it.
