Trip Moments Recommendations
One day in Tianmenshan
Tianmenshan located in Zhangjiajie town. I recommend for a whole day trip. I booked a hotel near Tianmenshan cable car station which was very comfortable, just 10minutes walked to cable car. We previously booked a route A trip, 7.30-8.00am, from trip.com about 2-3 weeks before. Very convenient.
It began from a long cable car to upper station and then walked along west cliffside path to Tianmen mountain temple. The view of the cliffside path was very great and the morning weather was the best.
Then we took a chairlift down to upper station again which we took a break for lunch. In the afternoon we reached the Tianmen. We decided for walk down the 999-step stair with a breataking view. and the went down the cable car to the town. We took time for a whole trip about 6-7hours.
I was very impressive traveling here. We highly recommend.

Tianmen Heaven’s Gate: The Iconic Hole in the Mountain
After taking the cable car up to Tianmen Mountain, we reached the famous "Heaven's Gate" hole. The natural arch was stunning, surrounded by mist and offering breathtaking views from the top. We couldn’t help but be amazed by its beauty.
We decided to have some fun and started striking playful poses in front of the hole, creating silly patterns and jumping in different positions. It was a perfect mix of awe and laughter, making the experience even more memorable.

The only 4 day itinerary for ZHANGJIAJIE you need!
Hi everyone (:
Something i would have loved to know
- You enter in Zhangjiajie city
- The popular entrance of the national park is at wulingyuan.
- The grand Canyon is about 30mins away from Wulingyuan
- Tianmenshan is accessible through cable car at Zhangjiajie city
-Carry your passport everywhere
Here’s my itinerary:
Arrival day
Fly in or take a train in, we did a 6 hour bullet train from shenzhen.
Take a didi to wulingyuan
Check in to your hotel there
Dinner and chill
Day 1
Have breakfast nearby and enter the park
Get on a bus to bailong lift (its the 4th stop)
Take the lift up and take a bus to yuanjiajie scenic area. This is where the avatar mountains are
Give yourself about 2 hours to walk the whole thing im just really slow but if you are done earlier you can take a bus to yangjiajie but since we didnt have time because the park closes at 5:30pm we decided to head straight to tianzi mountain
Take a bus to tianzi mountain and after walking around take a cable car back down and the bus will take you straight to the exit from there its just a short walk back to the hotel.
Day 2
We started off later today because we only had the golden whip stream hike planned so after breakfast we headed in but we saw the helicopter ride being recommend and for $98 for 5mins we thought why not and decided to take it hahaha
After the heli ride we went back into the park and did the golden whip stream hike. Its about a 6km hike that takes you to the main entrance of the park. So just grab a bus for 10 yuan and it will take you back to wulingyuan and short walk to hotel again
Day 3
Today we did the grand canyon. The route recommended is take a didi to the entrance, get on a bus inside the park that leads you to the actual park, go across the bridge, play the VR, take the zipline, slide down the glass slide, and do like a 3km hike to the exit.
Thats exactly what we did and the tickets that the hotel helps you buy is all included so really its so worth.
We also went to the romance park and watched the show and i tried searching online but it was too late ( usually you buy a day in advance) so i asked the hotel if they could get it for us and they came through.
(Check out my previous post about which hotel i stayed in!)
Day 4
After checking out take a didi back to the city and check into your hotel.
We stayed at orange hotel which was across the road from the cable car that takes you up
Our ticket was route A, cable car up, walk around and take the cable car halfway and come back by bus.
The route we walked was the west to the east and climbed the stairs down. About a 4km hike around the whole thing
Come back down and have dinner and thats the end of your trip!
If your flight the next day is at night, definitely take a day trip to furong town, or if you have the energy after tianmen mountain check out the 72 strange buildings.
And thats it 😁😁 Hope this can be of some help to someone ❤️ #china #zhangjiajie #tianmenshan #canyon
Up Up in the SKY!
Tianmen Forest Park in Zhangjiajie is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and unique landscapes. Located near Tianmen Mountain, the park features lush forests, dramatic cliffs, and impressive rock formations. The highlight for many visitors is the famous Tianmen Cave, or "Heaven's Gate," a natural arch in the mountain that offers spectacular views and a sense of adventure. The park also has a scenic cable car ride and a glass skywalk, which add to the overall experience. If you appreciate stunning natural scenery and are comfortable with heights, Tianmen Forest Park is definitely worth a visit.

Heaven’s Gate spectacular view
Location: Tianmen mountain, Zhangjiajie, Hunan, China
Entrance fee: 278¥ (round cable car 🚠)
Date: July 22, 2022
If you go to Zhangjiajie, then you must see Heaven’s Gate. It’s very close from the airport. You can get there in 15 mins by car or taxi.
Then you need to buy a cable car ticket to get to Tianmen mountain.
Looking at the stunning nature and tortuous roads you may feel really in Heaven. This scenery is so astonishing that worlds can’t describe how beautiful it is. Better to see once with your eyes and you’ll understand why it’s called Heaven’s Gate.

Heaven’s Gate
Location: Tianmen mountain, Zhangjiajie, Hunan, China
Entrance fee: 278¥ (round cable car 🚠)
Date: July 22, 2022
Tianmen mountain also known as Heaven’s Gate is one of the most famous places in Zhangjiajie.
It’s better to use the cable car to get to Tianmen. You can buy one way or round cable car ticket. After buying the ticket, you’ll take a bus near tickets office and get to the cable car’s entrance. Then you need to walk almost 30 mins and you’ll see the Heaven’s Gate.
To see this incredible view from top of the Gate, you need to climb 999 stairs, they’re known as “the Stairway to Heaven.”
It’s actually very tiring to climb these stairs, but in the end you’ll have a stunning view, which is definitely worth seeing. The good news is you won’t go down these stairs, there’s an escalator so you can use it to go down the hill.

Tianmen Mountain
Location: Zhangjiajie, Hunan province.
This mountain is called Tianmen shan. To get to the top you will need to take the cable car up, leaving from the centre of the city.
It might be a foggy day up at the top but the clouds make for truly wonderful photographs.
Looking down you can see the spiral roads with the picturesque greenery. You can spend hours at the top and be amazed.

TianMen mountain- Heaven Gates
Nothing seemed to surprise us, but then we came to 天门山⛰… Unfortunately we didn’t get the route A , which includes 7.7 km cable way from downtown to the top of the mountain .
Instead we took a bus and arrived to another cable way, which was short . It brought us to the stairs which should be 999 as a tail goes ( actually I counted 987) . and if you think that you reached the top after that - you’re wrong 😅Cause after stairs we had to take elevator…6 or 7 Times! When it lifted us we finally was on the top , but… At this moment you free to go in 2 directions , which will lead you to higher hills of mountain , another cable way attraction and glass bridge. Enjoy 😉🤗

Tianmenshan in the winter, lovely scenery with the snow
Going to the Tianmenshan in the winter is a choice not a must because it's very cold and if you're not lucky maybe the place will be close if the weather not good. But believe me, the scenery mountain with the snow is very beautiful and different than other weather. The escalator during snow is free 🤑
Tips:
1. buy ticket in advance for sure you can entry the travel place
2. You can use anti slip to avoid slip in the snow because it's very slippery
3. Make sure you wear suitable clothes to protect yout body

Walking on the Edge: The Thrilling Tianmen Mountain Wooden Bridge
Walking on the wooden bridge at Tianmen Mountain was a thrilling experience, with thick fog and mist surrounding us, making the mountain feel like it disappeared into the clouds.
Every step along the narrow path was intense, with the drop below hidden by the mist but still felt. The cool air and soft echoes of our footsteps added to the excitement of being so close to the edge.
It was a surreal and exhilarating moment, walking through such a mysterious, awe-inspiring place.

Tianmen Mountain: Adventure Awaits at Heaven’s Door
We made our way from the city center to Tianmen Mountain, driving up the thrilling 99-Bend Road with its 99 sharp curves, or alternatively, visitors can take the world’s longest cable car for stunning aerial views. Both routes offer breathtaking sights, leading to the mountain’s famous peak.
Tianmen Mountain is known for its natural beauty and spiritual significance, with the iconic "Heaven’s Gate" hole at its summit. To reach the hole, visitors climb the 999 steps, a rewarding challenge offering spectacular views and a sense of accomplishment upon reaching the top.

Conquer the 999 Steps: Tianmen Mountain’s Path to the Heaven
Experiencing the final stretch of the 999 steps, each step felt heavier, but the stunning view ahead made it all worth it. The climb was abit challenging, but the misty air and natural sounds made it feel magical, as if I were walking toward the heavens as they said.
At the top, I paused to take in the breathtaking landscape below. The sense of achievement was overwhelming, and standing at the summit, I felt a deep connection to the history and beauty of Tianmen Mountain.

The Escalator to Heaven: Tianmen Mountain’s Breathtaking Journey
Instead of climbing the 999 steps to Tianmen Mountain, we took the escalator, a thrilling and scenic alternative. The ride consists of two escalators, totaling about 1,000 meters, and costs around 60 RMB. It offers incredible views as you ascend, making the journey much more comfortable than the steep climb.
Completed in 2006, the Tianmen Mountain escalator was built to make the mountain’s stunning views more accessible. It’s become a popular way to reach the top, where visitors can see the famous Tianmen Cave and enjoy breathtaking landscapes. The mountain, with its rich history, remains a spiritual and natural wonder.

Zhangjiajie -Pictures don’t do you justice!!! Breathe taking views!!!
I’ve been dreaming of visiting Zhangjiajie in Hunan for the past 5 years! I finally visited all the sites.
Zhangjiajie National Park (pic 2 and 5) consists of a few area and it’s absolutely huge- you can easily spend a couple of days here especially if you want to explore the beautiful park- however as I was pressed for time I only spent a day here and mostly visited the Wulingyuan scenic area.
However, my absolutely favourite has to be Tianmen Mountain- (pic 1,3,4) - truly, pictures can’t capture the beauty of this place. To get to the top, you take the cable car, which apparently is the "longest passenger cableway of high mountains in the world" - it ascends 1,279 m (4,196 ft)- I can only describe it as that your eyes are rewarded with magnificent views of blue skies (depending on the weather of course), luscious greenery and emerald coloured lakes as you are slowly transported up.
When you reach the top, you feel as if you are truly on top of the world. As you take a picture of the back drop of Tianmen Mountain (pic 3,4) - the literal translation is “sky door” mountain - meaning the door to heaven- I would say the description definitely fits it well!

Heaven's Gateway aka Stairways to Heaven @ Tianmen Mountain
In our opinion, when in Zhangjiajie, Tianmen Mountain reigns all other locations, even Halleluyah Mountain made famous by Avatar.
Regardless, to prove your physical stamina, mental discipline or tenacity, or just plainly the epic scene of the gaping huge hole in the middle of Tianmen Mountain, it is an epic feat.
If the F16 Falcon can make a presence by squeezing through the "Heaven's Gateway," epic mountain speaks directly itself.
This lication has been chosen by many marketing promotions for products. Other than showcasing the F16 Falcon, Subaru Imprezza has made its way up this mountain 999 steps stairways.
What are you waiting for? Book yourself a tour to Tianmen Mountain

Is it worth watching Tianmen Mountain's "Romance of the Fox Fairy & the Farmer"?
Using the real backdrop of the Tianmen Mountain (Heaven's Gate), this live performance is one of the best we have seen in China.
The storyline is about the romance of a good nature common villager and a 1000 years fox fairy. Their love was not a bed of roses at the start, but their perseverance paid off in the end.
The production led by Mei Shuaiyuan, who also produces the well-known show of Yangshuo Impression Sanjie Liu, creatively uses lights against the natural beauty of Tianmen Mountain, cascading water creating a village comprises of many Tujia Village cottages and merges live and pre-shot scenes to create special effects.
It's a nice show to watch, and as the shows are only shown at night, the cooling atmosphere makes the show a real romance.
