🏨 Checked into our stay and settled in
🎟️ First stop: Shenyang Palace Museum — loved the elegance, history, and quiet courtyards. Smaller than Beijing’s Forbidden City but full of charm
🚶♀️ Strolled through Zhong Jie — Shenyang’s famous pedestrian street, lively but not too crowded
🌃 Ended the day at Color Tower Night Market — neon lights, street snacks, and all the local vibes
✨ Tips for Travelers in Shenyang
🕰 Go to the Shenyang Palace Museum early
It closes around 5pm (last entry even earlier), so plan it for early afternoon. It's quieter and cooler then too. OFF on Monday.
📍Zhong Jie is walkable
Wear comfy shoes — it’s a long pedestrian street with plenty to see, snack, and shop along the way.
🥢 Color Tower Night Market gets lively after 6pm
Head there for street food — this season is perfect for Dongbei fruits (Dandong strawberries and Dalian cherries.) Super affordable, sweet and juicy!
🚕 Just take a taxi or use ride-hailing apps
It’s affordable and saves time, especially if you’re in a group of 3–4.
🧊 Northern air is dry
Bring lip balm and moisturizer — your skin will thank you.
📱 Have WeChat/Alipay ready
Most places don’t take cash or international cards, so make sure mobile payment is sorted ahead.
Shenyang may not shout for attention, but it’s full of character once you slow down and look around. A good start to the journey 💛

Shenyang's authentic night market "North Market"
🇨🇳 Day 11 of the Northeast-North China Tour
🗓 2025.01.18
After finishing the Fushun Xingjing day tour (Hyodo Arab City-Qingying Mausoleum) departing from Shenyang, I returned to the North Market. Since it was winter, there weren't many visitors, but I happily ate 雪绵豆沙 as a snack and ate a lot at a local Shenyang restaurant. I went back to see the North Market at night again, and there was a performance, so there were a lot of visitors.

Review of the Shenyang Museum
🇨🇳 Day 10 of the Northeast-North China Tour
🗓 2025.01.17
I visited the Shenyang Museum and looked at historical exhibits about the Qing Dynasty's birthplace, Xingjing, and also saw Shenyang's modern exhibits. I realized that the Shenyang Palace was founded in Manchuria (Northeast China) and that as the Manchus gradually expanded, they left behind many Manchu characters and many Manchu cultural relics here and there.

The Mausoleum of Qing Taizong Hong Taiji, known as Qing Zhaoling
🇨🇳 Northeast to North China Tour, Day 10
🗓 January 17, 2025
Qing Zhaoling is the tomb of Emperor Taizong of the Qing Dynasty, Hong Taiji, who renamed the Later Jin state to the Qing Dynasty and elevated it to a great empire. The tomb is located to the north, surrounded by a park that has become Beiling Park.
Due to its better accessibility from downtown Shenyang compared to Qing Dongling, it attracts more visitors, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll.
9.18 Manchurian Incident History Museum
🇨🇳 Northeast and North China Tour - Day 10
🗓 January 17, 2025
I explored the exhibition detailing the events of September 18, 1931, when Japanese imperial soldiers fabricated the Mukden Incident, blaming it on China, and used it as a pretext to invade not only Shenyang but the entire Manchurian region. As a Korean, I deeply empathize with the severe harm inflicted by Japan on both Korea and China, and I firmly believe such unprovoked aggression is utterly unforgivable.
2025 New Year Lantern Festival at Guandong Film City in Shenyang
🇨🇳 Day 09 of the Northeast-North China Tour
🗓 2025.01.16
After seeing the Forest Zoo located northeast of Shenyang City, I walked straight to Guandong Film City. At that time, it was around 4pm, so I thought it would be closed, but since there was a New Year's Lantern Festival, it was still open, so I had plenty of time to see it.
As night fell, the lights at Guandong Film City turned on, making the night view even more beautiful.

The tomb of Nurhachi, the founder of the Qing Dynasty in Manchuria, 'Qingfuling (淸福陵)'
🇨🇳 Day 09 of the Northeast-North China Tour
🗓 2025.01.16
Qingfuling (淸福陵) is the tomb of the Qing Taizu Nurhachi, buried in the east of Shenyang.
I thoroughly enjoyed Qingfuling and Dongling Park, and I saw that the palace in front of the tomb was all built in a Manchurian style, and the Manchurian characters written by the founder himself were clearly displayed on the signboard, and the Eight Flags of Manchuria were placed there.

Completed visit to Liaoning Provincial Museum
🇨🇳 Day 08 of the Northeast-North China Tour
🗓 2025.01.15
I went to see the Liaoning Provincial Museum
The museum is very large, rectangular, and can be climbed from the first floor to the fifth floor, so it took a long time to see it. And it has permanent exhibitions covering the history of Liaoning Province from ancient times to modern times. In particular, there is a separate exhibition on the Manchu, the largest ethnic minority in Liaoning Province.

Strolling along Shenyang Zhongjie Street
🇨🇳 Northeast-North China Tour Days 06-12
🗓 2025.01.13~19
Zhongjia (中街) is a street that runs across Shenyang Fangcheng (沈阳方城) and is located north of Shenyang Imperial Palace. It is a shopping street themed after local traditional culture.
I stayed near Zhongjia on Days 06-10, so I often went there, and on Day 12, I ate at an old and famous Northeastern restaurant in Zhongjia.

Modern Architectural Landmarks in Fengtian
🇨🇳 Northeast and North China Tour - Day 7
🗓 January 14, 2025, Afternoon
After fully exploring the Shenyang Imperial Palace, we visited the Dong San Sheng Governor's Office, Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence, Shenyang Financial Museum, and the South Manchuria Railway Company building in sequence.
The residence of Zhang Zuolin, the leader of the Fengtian warlord faction, and his son Zhang Xueliang is known as Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence. It seems that the Dong San Sheng Governor's Office, located near his residence, served as the administrative center for governing the Fengtian warlord forces.
Exploring Shenyang Imperial Palace in 3 Hours
🇨🇳 Northeast and North China Tour - Day 7
🗓 2025.01.14
I visited the Shenyang Imperial Palace with an entrance fee of 50 yuan and explored every corner of the palace in detail, which took about 3 hours.
The palace was built in 1625 when Nurhaci founded the Later Jin dynasty and had been reigning as the Great Khan for nine years. He constructed a magnificent palace reflecting the Manchu style and moved the capital there, marking exactly 400 years since that event!
Nurhaci, the first Great Khan, passed away the year after relocating the capital to Shenyang. His eighth son, Hong Taiji, ascended as the second Great Khan and began expanding the palace. This development seemed to transform Shenyang into a major city.
A Magical Winter Escape: Snowy Shenyang’s Must-Visit Spots
#shenyang Visiting Shenyang in winter was an unforgettable experience! The city’s historic sites and parks looked absolutely breathtaking under a fresh layer of snow. If you’re traveling here during the colder months, these three places should be at the top of your list:
Shenyang Palace Museum – Walking through this ancient palace in the snow felt like stepping back in time. The red walls and golden rooftops, dusted with white, created a stunning contrast. The courtyards were peaceful, with only a few visitors braving the cold, making it easy to take in the beauty without crowds. A must-see for history lovers!
Beiling Park – This park was like a winter postcard come to life. Snow-covered trees lined the paths leading to the majestic Zhaoling Mausoleum, and the frozen lakes added to the serene atmosphere. It’s a great place for a quiet walk or even some light snow play if you’re visiting with family.
Dongling Park – Another hidden gem in the winter! The Fuling Mausoleum looked even more impressive surrounded by snow-covered hills. It was less crowded than Beiling Park, which made it feel like a peaceful retreat. If you love history and nature combined, this is the perfect spot.
Overall, Shenyang in winter is a dream for travelers who enjoy history, nature, and beautiful snowy landscapes. Just bundle up—temperatures drop quite a bit, but the views are 100% worth it!
Colourful corners of Shenyang’s Imperial Palace
Enjoy the vibrant architecture of Shenyang’s Qing Dynasty Imperial Palace (my personal favourite Dynasty, loving all things bright and colourful).
I was pleasantly surprised how beautiful Shenyang is, especially after visiting the Imperial Place, a must see in Shenyang!
I spent 3 hours walking around the grounds absorbing all the history and taking so many beautiful photos! There are so many interesting exhibitions to see, including Qipao and beautiful art pieces, you can definitely loose track of time in awe of the history that comes from the palace.

Up in the cloud
#timetotravel The hotel is beautiful and located in the tallest building in Shenyang. The first time I stayed the hotel was completely new. The check-in went super smoothly and we asked for a late checkout, with no problem. The room was quite big and we had the view towards the TV tower. The big plus was the Nespresso coffee machine in the room.
The breakfast spread combined with the view was quite amazing. On our second stay we tried the dinner buffet and it did not disappoint. They had food from all corners of the world and I would love to try it again next time I am in town.

Hidden Gem - Goethe Book Store!
This is an incredible hidden gem you would almost miss if you weren’t paying attention. Newly restored, this gorgeous old European designed restaurant/coffee shop/gorgeous book store is a lovely spot to sit down and get your read on.
📚 Packed with a surprising variety of books from all over the world with a healthy international section, the building itself is worth a look in.
🥰 There is lovely stain glass, hanging chandeliers, leather sofas and a small stage, which I’m sure used to house visiting authors pre-Covid. Would be perfect for small intimate shows and readings. Has an array of quirky gifts dotted about the place too!
Rumour has it it used to be open 24hours pre-Covid but now closes at 9pm.

Please ask
Please ask the management of this hotel Yatai hotel #travelchina #shenyang not to change what is already good, which is to focus on the source of raw materials to have high quality as a policy forever. For example, white rice porridge has a fragrant, refreshing smell. The rice and rice water have a good thickness. Eating it gives customers energy to travel. Corn is steamed to the perfect doneness, not too hard, not too soft, chewy and fun. It tastes a little sweet. You can't stop eating it. You have to keep picking it up and eating it. Sweet potatoes are sweet and fragrant, clearly different from many other places in that the skin is thin and easy to peel off. This shows that they have selected delicious varieties for customers, etc.

Greenland Guobinfu: Shenyang’s Surreal Ghost Town
#shenyang #ghosttown Hidden on the outskirts of Shenyang, Greenland Guobinfu was once meant to be a luxury villa community, but construction halted around 2012 and it was left abandoned. Walking through its empty streets and unfinished houses feels surreal — a strange blend of silence, nature, and forgotten ambition. Locals have started farming between the ruins, giving the place a haunting yet oddly lively atmosphere. It’s a fascinating spot for adventurous travelers, but be careful: stray dogs roam freely, and the eerie stillness can give you a few chills. Best to visit during the day and stay alert as you explore.

Shenyang Forest Zoo

🗓 2025.01.16
We went to Shenyang East to see Qingfuling Mausoleum/Dongling Park (the tomb of the founder of the Qing Dynasty, Nurhachi)-Shenyang Expo Park in that order, and then went to the Forest Zoo. Since it was winter, many places were closed, so we were able to see the remaining wild animals such as wolves, Northeast tigers, bears, and horses, and the time was shortened so we could return quickly.

Visit Shenyang Northeast University and have dinner at Fengtian Xiaoguan
🇨🇳 Day 08 of the Northeast-North China Tour
🗓 2025.01.15
We visited the Northeast University in Shenyang and enjoyed Northeastern cuisine at the nearby Fengtian Shaoguan.
Northeastern University was founded in 1923 by Zhang Zuolin, the leader of the Manchurian warlord (Fengtian Clan), to educate elites in the northeastern region of China. When Zhang Zuolin was assassinated by the Japanese in 1928, his son Zhang Xueliang became the president of the university. In 1949, with the establishment of the People's Republic of China, the name of the university was briefly changed to the Northeastern Institute of Engineering, but it was restored to its original name in 1993.
Fengtian Shaoguan Restaurant is a local authentic Shenyang restaurant centered around Shenyang, and can make a lot of Manchurian (Northeastern) cuisine.

Nanguang Catholic Church in Shenyang
🇨🇳 Day 7 of the Northeast-North China Tour
🗓 2025.01.14
Just before visiting the Shenyang Imperial Palace, I visited the Nanguang Catholic Church located to the south of the church to see the exterior, but I couldn't see the interior because it was closed. Anyway, I just took some pretty pictures of the exterior and looked around for about 20 minutes before leaving for the Shenyang Imperial Palace.
[Explanation of Nanguang Catholic Church]
It was built by French missionaries in 1878 during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, but was destroyed by the Boxer Rebellion in 1900. The existing Nanguan Catholic Church was rebuilt in 1912 with the compensation from the Qing Dynasty for the Boxer Rebellion and funds collected by the Paris Mission Society of France, and is the largest Catholic church in the Northeast region.
