A Relaxing Solo Seafood Steaming Experience in Causeway Bay
After work, my colleague took me to enjoy steamed seafood in Causeway Bay. We visited his favorite spot, Chuan Wo. While I’ve had steamed seafood before, the ambiance here is unique—it feels like stepping into a ramen shop. Pulling down the curtain creates a semi-private space, offering a sense of seclusion without compromising privacy.
We ordered two set menus: "Nine Treasures Sesame" and "Eight Officials." The main difference between the two is that one includes razor clams and lobster.
The "Nine Treasures Sesame" set includes:
- Salad
- Takoyaki
- White clams, shrimp, fresh fish slices, large clams, razor clams, abalone
- U.S. beef slices, pork slices
- Three Treasure Balls (beef bone broth beef ball, ginger century egg ball, signature squid ball)
- Vegetable platter
The "Eight Officials" set includes:
- Salad
- Dumplings and sesame chicken wings
- White clams, shrimp, surf clams, abalone
- Scallops, razor clams, fresh fish slices, lobster, and one king razor clam
- Angus beef slices, pork slices
- Three Treasure Balls (beef bone broth beef ball, ginger century egg ball, signature squid ball)
- Vegetable platter
The seafood was incredibly fresh—shrimp and abalone were delightfully firm and bouncy, while the shellfish were plump and sweet. My lobster, though small, was packed with roe!
Each table has instructions indicating the steaming time for each type of seafood. Following these guidelines ensures perfect results. The Three Treasure Balls were particularly delicious, each with its own unique flavor. The ginger century egg ball was especially impressive, bursting with ginger essence and packed with ingredients.
Although the set portions seemed modest, we ended up steaming and eating for over two hours. With the addition of meat and vegetables, it was more than enough. Finally, we used the leftover seafood broth to make congee and rice noodles, which were incredibly flavorful and satisfying.
For seafood lovers, this steamed seafood spot is a must-try!
