A Lovely Day at Blickling Hall – Rhododendrons in Bloom
I spent a truly wonderful day at Blickling Hall, and what a treat it was! Nestled in the Norfolk countryside, this Jacobean mansion is one of the National Trust’s crown jewels — but today, the spotlight was all on the rhododendrons, bursting into colour around the grounds.
The gardens were absolutely alive with vibrant shades of pink, purple, and white. Walking through the estate felt like stepping into a dream — especially around the Temple Walk and Wilderness Garden, where the rhododendrons form lush, fragrant tunnels. It’s the kind of place where you want to slow down, breathe deeply, and just take it all in.
The hall itself is rich in history and beautifully maintained, with impressive architecture and a fascinating past (yes, this is where the legend of Anne Boleyn’s ghost originates!). But on this visit, the gardens stole the show — a perfect blend of formal design and natural woodland magic.
Best time to visit? Late May to early June is ideal for rhododendrons in full bloom. Early morning or late afternoon gives you the best light and quieter paths.
Location: Blickling Estate, Blickling, Norwich NR11 6NF
Tip: Don’t miss the café in the old stables — the scones are excellent, especially after a garden walk!

Sheringham Park – A Walk Through Norfolk’s Natural Masterpiece
Today’s walk through Sheringham Park was the kind of peaceful escape that stays with you long after you leave. Nestled in the rolling hills of North Norfolk, this National Trust gem is a place where nature takes center stage — and right now, in late spring, it’s putting on a breathtaking show.
Designed by renowned landscape gardener Humphry Repton, Sheringham Park is a carefully curated celebration of wild beauty. As I wandered through winding paths, I was completely surrounded by towering rhododendrons and vibrant azaleas, bursting in full bloom. The color was incredible — deep magentas, fiery oranges, soft pinks — creating a dreamlike tunnel of floral brilliance.
What mattered most to me was the sense of calm. The further I walked, the quieter it became. The only sounds were birdsong and the soft rustling of leaves. From the gazebo viewpoint, I looked out across fields and woodland toward the shimmering North Sea, with Sheringham’s cliffs just visible in the distance. It was one of those pause-and-breathe moments.
Best time to visit? Late April through June is prime bloom time for the rhododendrons and azaleas. Early mornings or late afternoons offer softer light and fewer crowds — perfect for photography or quiet reflection.
Location: Sheringham Park, Upper Sheringham, Norfolk NR26 8TL, England
Tip: Don’t skip the tree-top viewing towers — they give you a stunning panoramic view of the estate. And if you’re up for a longer walk, the coastal trail loop is pure joy.

Sheringham Park, Norfolk – A Hidden Gem of the North Norfolk Coast
#cityplaybook
Tucked away in the tranquil countryside near the North Norfolk coastline, Sheringham Park is a breathtaking National Trust property that deserves a spot on every nature lover’s travel list. I stumbled upon this place almost by accident on a spring road trip—and honestly, I’ve been recommending it ever since.
What struck me most was the sheer scale and variety of landscapes. Designed by Humphry Repton, this historic park is a mosaic of wildflower meadows, rolling woodlands, and rhododendron-lined pathways that burst into color each spring. If you’re lucky enough to visit between late April and early June, you're in for a spectacular show—the rhododendrons and azaleas are in full bloom, turning every corner into a painter’s palette of pinks, purples, and fiery oranges.
Climbing the viewing towers is a must—especially the Gazebo Tower, which offers panoramic views across the park and out toward the North Sea. On a clear day, you can even see the wind turbines off the coast. The trails are well marked and vary in length, making them suitable for casual strollers and seasoned hikers alike. I particularly enjoyed the White Trail, which winds through some of the most scenic parts of the estate.
There’s a welcoming café near the visitor centre and plenty of peaceful spots for a picnic. And yes, Sheringham Park is dog-friendly, so it’s a great option if you're traveling with your four-legged friend.
Best time to visit? Spring, hands down. That’s when the rhododendrons are in bloom and the wildlife is at its most active. But autumn brings its own charm with golden foliage and misty trails.
Bonus Tip: Sheringham Park is just a short drive from Sheringham town and easily accessible via the A148. Parking is available, and free for National Trust members.
