The remote island with unofficial campsite perched in the hill offers a panoramic view both day time and night time specifically on a full moon session. The island is located off the northern peninsula of Sai Kung. How to get there: From Sai Kung town take the 94 bus from Sai Kung Town to Wong Shek Pier, and catch the ferry to the island (around 30 minutes). If you stay for camping, please make sure you bring enough food, drinks and camping gear with you. there is small local restaurant near by the ferry pier, but don’t except much in terms of variety of food. The island is also famous for wild cattle that roam free, so they can be uninvited visitors sneaking into your camping tent in search of food! This small village at the foot of Lingjiangyuan forest park in Pan’an village represents what life in rural China looks like. Houses are made of concrete or wood and are beautifully decorated with Chinese couplets and lanterns. Restaurants aren’t so distinct as they’re mostly locals preparing local specialities at their own place for visitors. Few also sell refreshments and plants🪴. The village isn’t densely populated. It was rather empty and serene. I occasionally came across old people sitting on stools while listening to the radio on their porches. Strolling around felt like being in another world in the middle of nowhere! Last fall I visited the eagle hunters of Mongolia. This felt like one of the last remote places on this planet. It takes almost a week to get to them and once there you are far from any phone signal, city or anything looking like normal civilisation. I stayed in their tents and joined them hunting during the day. They own almost nothing but are still super happy and enjoy life fully.
