Switzerland truly is the most beautiful place I've ever visited in Europe – it's like a fairytale brought to life! 💖
I had the incredible fortune of staying at my "hotel of a lifetime," The Cambrian, located in the charming village of Adelboden. Sleeping in the alps
For a true Italian mountain experience you really have to stay at one of its famous mountain rifugio. Most of which provide a bed, breakfast and possibly even an evening meal of typical mountain food with spectacular views for a very reasonable price.
One of the most accessible and comfortable of these for those wanting their first experience is Rifugio Damiano Chiesa located in the Monte Baldo range high above lake Garda. #getgoing2025 #hiking #mountains #alps
High above the clouds
One of the best hiking routes in northern Italy and possibly one of the most accessible ways to reach over 2000m is to climb Monte Altissimo Di Nago in the Monte Baldo range above Lake Garda.
The best time of year to take on the hike is during the late spring where the fields are awash with rare alpine plants and the weather is perfect. The views across lake Garda and the surrounding mountains are stunning on for those not wanting to make the return trip there’s always the cable car to take you down to the town of Malcesine. #getgoing2025 #hiking #alps

🇨🇭 Cogwheel Train Ride to Mt Rigi
During our time in Lucerne, we visited Mount Rigi, often called the "Queen of the Mountains," as the journey was included with the Swiss Rail Travel Pass.
Our adventure began with a 30-minute train ride from Lucerne's main station (Luzern Bahnhof) to Arth-Goldau. From there, we boarded a cogwheel train that provided a stunning, scenic ascent to the summit of Mount Rigi.
The cogwheel train is particularly fascinating due to its use of a toothed rack rail system in the center of the track, enabling it to navigate steep gradients that standard trains cannot handle.

🇨🇭 Best viewpoint in Lucerne
The Musegg Wall, a 14th-century landmark in Lucerne, is a must-visit. Located about 15 minutes from Lucerne train station, it sits on a hill, requiring some stair and slope climbing. The 870-meter wall features nine watchtowers, four of which are open to the public for free during non-winter months.
While we visited in winter and couldn't access the wall, a local recommended walking along the outer wall for stunning views. This route offered a panoramic vista of Lucerne, Lake Lucerne, and the Swiss Alps. If visiting in summer, don’t miss climbing the watchtowers for even better views!

A slice of Bavaria in Italy
Walking around the Northern Italian town you will be forgiven for thinking you were just outside Munich or perhaps Austria. This delightful alpine town has plenty of things to see and do.
The South Tirol museum of archeology gives fascinating insight into the forensic science used to understand how Otzi the iceman lived and died over 5000 years ago.
Taken the cable car from the city centre to over 1000m gives an incredible view of not just the city itself but the surrounding, imposing Alps.

🇨🇭 From Interlaken to Schilthorn 🗻
The Schilthorn (2,970 meters) is one of the summits in the Bernese Alps of Switzerland that can be reached without hiking up the mountain. It took us 2.5 hours to get to the Schilthorn, where the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant is located, starting from Interlaken train station and involving multiple train, bus, and cable car rides.
We first took a train from Interlaken OST to Lauterbrunnen, which took approximately 20-25 minutes. From Lauterbrunnen, we boarded bus 141 to Stechelberg, the starting point for a series of four cable car rides to the summit. We purchased the cable car tickets online in advance to avoid the queues. The ticket cost CHF 42.80 per person with the Swiss Travel Pass (usual price CHF 108). The intermediate stations included Gimmelwald, Mürren, and Birg. The cable car ride offered impressive views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley and surrounding peaks. However, it was quite difficult to take good pictures as the rides were crowded, and we had to stand throughout the journey.

🇨🇭 007 Walk of Fame @ Schilthorn
Piz Gloria at the summit of Schilthorn got its name from a James Bond novel and is well known as the film location for the 1969 Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". In addition to Spy World museum, a new and larger exhibition, called "007 Walk of Fame", was opened in July 2015 on the Schilthorn ridge to pay tribute to the cast and behind-the-scenes contributors to the iconic James Bond movie. The Walk of Fame consists of 15 information panels featuring George Lazenby, who played James Bond in the film, and members of the film crew. Each panel features a photo, signature, handprint in steel and a personal message. Walking on the ridge was quite a challenge especially during winter due to the strong wind and heavy snow. It's definitely worth a walk nonetheless as the ridge is an excellent vantage point for taking in the spectacular alpine scenery.
