The moment I stepped off the ferry and saw the village nestled between the mountains and the lake, I actually stood still for a few seconds just to take it all in. You can easily walk from end to the other in under half an hour but every corner is worth exploring. I went in early spring, and it was just chilly enough for a warm drink by the lake to feel like a reward after wandering around. But I get more creative and decided to explore Obertraun and Dachstein while I’m in the region since we had extra days for the holiday. From Salzburg, its a 2 hour bus ride to get to Hallstatt and you will descend near the lake with an amazing view of colourful house. Its a small town and will take around 2-3 hours of exploring but if you are adventurous you can try to hike to the waterfall shown in the video for further adrenaline rush! If you want to spend more tranquil vibe near the lake, you can try booking a one night stay at the Hallstatt area but be sure to book well in advance or else everything will be super expensive.
