There are many sculptures of Buddha all over the country. Sơn Trà Mountain has a big Buddha statue. It is very sacred. 💒Da Nang Cathedral💒 It is a beautiful pink cathedral built in 1923 during French colonial times. Hanoi is Vietnam’s second biggest city and doesn’t get as much attention as the capital Ho Chi Minh - However it has it’s own unique charm and is well worth a visit! Having visited both I found Hanoi a little bit cheaper and it had a more romantic charm, feeling more historical and has avoided the rapid urban development that it’s southern sister has experienced. Hanoi is a lot more walk able and features more concentrated areas of sights, especially around the central lake area - it is definitely a city you could cover in a weekend. Hanoi has many amazing examples of their french colonial heritage which is an amazing contrast to the many brutalist buildings surviving from their early communist days. The public transport isn’t the best and they have only just opened their first metro line, however grab is very easy and affordable and I had some very helpful and informative drivers too! The two main areas to visit are the French Quarter and the Old Quarter, I stayed in the Old Quarter as I found the boutique hotels here a lot more appealing and also closer to the food streets. The old quarter also has the best shopping and you can still get some beautiful hand crafts and hand made clothes for reasonable prices. The St Joseph’s Cathedral is a mini notre damn surrounded by little cafes and pho restaurants, which is symbolic of the east meets west experience of hanoi. My favourite thing was walking around the central lake in Hanoi (Hoan Kiem Lake) and taking in the different architectural and historical styles, some of them have been beautifully restored into cafes and restaurants. The main political buildings are located in the Ba Dinh district and offer the best contrast between building styles, and also helps you understand how many transitions Vietnam has experienced in it’s history. I was really impressed by the museums in Hanoi too, they covered many different areas and were also very cheap! There is a small coastal town called Vung Tau next to Ho Chi Minh City. Chinese people rarely visit it. You must climb Mount Christ when you come to Vung Tau. The most famous statue of Jesus in the world is the one in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. But did you know? The largest statue of Jesus in Asia is in Vung Tau. It is 32 meters tall, with arms spread out 18 meters, standing on the top of the mountain facing the sea, standing in the wind, more shocking than the photo. There is no charge for climbing the mountain. There are 811 steps in total. It is not difficult to climb. There are many viewing platforms along the way. Walk and take pictures, and you will reach the top of the mountain soon. What is special is that you can enter the interior of the statue of Jesus. Climb to the top and look out at the sea from Jesus' "arms". It's wonderful! However, the passage becomes narrower as you go up. After reaching the top, the staff will randomly assign you to stand on one of Jesus' left and right arms. It should be noted that you cannot enter the statue with a backpack or shoes. Vests and bottoms shorter than the knees are also prohibited. After going down the mountain, you can visit Vung Tau Church. Then don't miss the Centella asiatica milk tea at Rau Má Bà Già. With mung bean paste, it's refreshing and thirst-quenching. There's also a Bánh mì shop nearby. You can try it if you pass by. Vung Tau is not a big city. There are not many check-in spots. Play slowly and walk slowly. There are also several small cafes along the coast. It's also nice to find a seat to sit and watch the sea. I recommend Trung Nguyên Legend Café. If there are many people, you can take a taxi like a sightseeing bus. Hoi An is such an aesthetic. Everywhere is a good spot for photos. I love the boutiques and their architecture. It’s ancient, of course, but also carries a breeze of fresh, modern days, making the whole ancient town become so timeless. The only thing that is quite inconvenient is there are many bikes and pedicabs so it’s hard to move and take photos with a clear background, unless you go to the town really early in the morning. One of the most talked-about spots in Hanoi is the famous Train Street, where a real working train passes incredibly close to cafés and homes lining the narrow track. Naturally, I had to check it out for myself—and here’s what I honestly think. First things first: the train schedule isn’t reliable. Online timings said one thing, but in my case, the train arrived much later than expected. So be prepared to wait. ⏱️ Most of the cafés along the tracks will only let you sit if you order something. I went ahead and bought a drink to get a seat—but honestly? The drink was expensive and not great. That said, you don’t have to sit. You can stand along the track and still enjoy the experience for free (just find a safe spot and keep an eye out for staff or security). ⚠️ Safety tip: The train comes extremely close—like, inches from your body! Hold onto your phone tightly and be very aware of your surroundings. It’s thrilling but not something to take lightly. Despite the wait and the overpriced drinks, I’d say it was worth it for the experience. Born Nguyen Phuc Buu Dao, Khai Dinh (ruled 1916-25) was the second-last Emperor in the Nguyen Dynasty. He was the son of Emperor Dong Khanh. Dong Khanh was the most submissive of the Nguyen Emperors to French colonialism. After the French expelled the patriotic Emperor Duy Tan, they chose the son of Emperor Dong Khanh to be the nominal ruler of Vietnam. As such, Khai Dinh’s was a puppet government for the French. As a puppet for the French, Khai Dinh’s government suppressed the Vietnamese’ resistance movements against colonial rule. There was, indeed, lots of ill will toward Khai Dinh from the people of Vietnam. There is flair in the very structure itself. The Royal Mausoleum of Khai Dinh has a remarkably different appearance from the classical structures at the Royal Mausoleums of Tu Duc and Minh Mang. It seemed to be a stone structure (it is actually a concrete structure, unlike the other royal tombs that are brick structures). Conspicuous dragon pillars line the two sides of every gate. The three middle halls of the Thien Dinh Palace are the royal crypt and the altar hall. The flooring inside the Palace are granite. Elegant inlaid ceramic and glass fragments bas reliefs adorn the walls. Inside the Khai Thanh Temple, a bronze statue of Khai Dinh sits above the burial. This bronze statue was cast in France in 1920. The whole arena is glistening in gold. I really did marvel at the Royal Mausoleum of Khai Dinh, especially because I had no prior knowledge of Khai Dinh’s penchant for all things French. The royal tomb’s stature was remarkable. The décor inside the Thien Dinh Palace was so amazing that my heart raced at the sight of its beauty. It would not be an exaggeration to say that this is a mini-Versailles in Vietnam. That said, it would not require any imagination to know that this grandiosity was equivalent to wastefulness. #vietnamtrip Visited the Sky Lotte Observation Deck in Hanoi early in the morning — and I’m so glad I did! 🥰 It was quiet, calm, and honestly the perfect way to start the day. No crowds, no noise… just me, the whole city below, and endless sky 💭✨ The elevator ride up to the 65th floor was so fast (my ears popped lol 😅), and once I stepped out — wow. Floor-to-ceiling windows with a full 360° view of Hanoi. The morning light made everything look so soft and dreamy 🌥️. I could see West Lake, the Red River, and the rooftops stretching all the way to the horizon. And yes... I stood on the glass floor too 😳 Took me a minute to step on it, but once I did — it was kind of amazing.
