We went on a trip to know a bit more about China. Friends recommended going to Guilin and we researched and we ended up in this beautiful place nearby. Yangshuo is beautiful and I can't describe the wonderful aroma around these beautiful fields and mountains. The vibe was amazing and you could go around using an e-bike that's easy to rent and very cheap. Just be aware of the battery. Around the place you can enjoy lots of different activities. Even ride a horse or go through the river riding a traditional boat.#must-see #china #yanshuorafting #yangshou #guilin

Guilin, Longji Terraces and Yangshuo
Yangshuo, the Longji Rice Terraces and Guilin in the Guangxi region are three beautiful spots to visit while travelling in China 🇨🇳 I think.
- #yangshuo County is a really pretty area just an hour away from Guilin by train. Everything is beautiful here, mountains (never ending ‘Karst’ mountains I learned here), #liriver, caves and super nice food (including Li River snails 🐌).
- The #longjiriceterraces are also impressive. Built around 650 years ago, they are nested among tiny villages just about two hours driving from Guilin. My western eyes never seen anything like that, ever.
- #guilin is also really pretty with its Li River, mountains, the iconic Elephant Trunk Hill and caves as well. Plus I really like the lakes where the Sun and Moon pagodas are. I also found a really decent pizza 🍕 to eat here.
Anyway, the #guangxi region did not disappoint at all 🤩🤩🤩
🌾 Stairway to Heaven: LongJi’s Golden Rice Terraces 🌄
If you’re anywhere near Guilin, don’t miss the LongJi Rice Terraces. These stunning “dragon’s backbone” fields have been carved into the mountainsides for over 650 years by the Zhuang and Yao ethnic minority groups — an ancient feat of engineering and pure beauty.
We visited in autumn, when the paddies glow golden – absolutely magical. Took the cable car up (highly recommend unless you’re keen on a serious hike!), and the views from the top were unreal.
Also, make time for lunch at the little restaurant near the summit – generous portions, delicious local dishes, and a panoramic view that makes it all taste even better.
10/10 experience – peaceful, breathtaking, and deeply rooted in tradition.

เขางวงช้าง Elephant Trunk Hill
#TravelChina
Before traveling to Beijing, we called Grab to Elephant Trunk Hill (Elephant Trunk Hill 象鼻山), a famous landmark located between the Li River and the Peach Blossom River. It is a 360 million-year-old hill with a large gap in the middle, making the protruding rocks look like an elephant's trunk. In addition to its unusual shape, the hill is also covered with lush green trees, perfectly matching the emerald green water of the river. Anyone who comes to the Li River and doesn't visit Elephant Trunk Hill is missing out.

20 Yuan Banknote Viewpoint, Xingping Ancient Town
#TravelChina
We took the high-speed train from Guilin to Yangshuo, which took only half an hour. When we arrived, we took a bus to Xingping Ancient Town. We could travel there in the morning and return in the evening like us. We walked to the twenty-yuan banknote viewing point. The banknote is a view of the mountains and the Lijiang River, which is a natural tourist attraction that should not be missed when visiting Guilin. At this point, you can take a photo with the ducklings.

Bamboo rafting, admiring the view of the limestone mountains on the Yulong River in Yangshuo
Bamboo rafting on the Yulong River, sitting on a bamboo raft floating down the river, the water in the river is crystal clear, with green hills on both sides, and scattered fields and villages in between. The bamboo raft slowly floats on the quiet water, with the wind blowing across your face. Enjoy the quiet and relaxing countryside scenery, and experience the quiet beauty of nature. Even though there was a storm when we came, it was still raining non-stop, but it was still beautiful.

Top family hotel in Guilin
One of the best hotels I have stayed in Guilin. It’s clean, spacious and very comfortable. Close to the Elephant trunk hill, two rivers and four lakes and there are plenty of shops and eatery just outside the hotel. The service is outstanding, the staff makes you feel at home and there is nothing they can’t help you with. The breakfast is delicious and there are many choices for everyone.
The kids area is spacious. My kid loved to feed the rabbits😁!

Guilin was so cool 🤩
Guilin’s breathtaking karst mountains make it one of China’s most scenic destinations. The dramatic peaks, often wrapped in mist, look like a traditional painting come to life. Yangshuo offers incredible views, especially from Moon Hill, while cycling through the countryside immerses you in the landscape.
For culture, Princess Park (Jingjiang Princes’ City) is a must-see. This Ming Dynasty complex features grand palaces, intricate carvings, and beautiful gardens, offering a glimpse into China’s royal past. The mix of natural beauty and history makes Guilin unforgettable. 5/5 stars—a perfect blend of scenery and culture!💞Reasons to Recommend:#guilin #mountains

Wangcheng Boutique Hotel (Guilin Liangjiang Sihu Dongxi Alley Shop) Accommodation in Guilin City, in front of the accommodation is Zhongyang Pedestrian Street. The accommodation costs hundreds of baht. It is close to the river and the city center, not far from Elephant Trunk Hill. The 24-hour front desk allows you to check in late at night. The room is spacious, clean and modern. There is free water in the room every day. You can use a European charger at the multi-purpose socket, which is very convenient. The room is spacious and very clean, but the bathroom has no door, just a curtain and no water hose. Overall, it is okay.

Night Photography at the Cloud Restaurant
Situated between the Lijiang River on the east and Taohua River on the southwest, the heart of Guilin City is wedged amongst the Ronghu Lake, Shanhu Lake, Guihu Lake and Longhu Lake, with its signature karst peaks as the backdrop to the cityscape.
The Shanhu and Ronghu Lakes were artificial lakes with a history dated to the early Tang dynasty (621 A.D.), when the military strategist Li Jing had scored military advantage in the southern China area, including this part of now-Guangxi Province. In establishing the ancient South Gate (Gunanmen) in Guilin, Li Jing also constructed moats for the ancient fortification. The moats fell into disuse during their long history. They eventually became the lake area that is today.
Standing in the Shanhu Lake are two beautiful towers, the Sun Tower and the Moon Tower, that are lit up at night. The Sun Tower glimmers in gold, while the Moon Tower glistens in silver.
I did not want to spend more than 200 RMB on a cruise tour to see the two rivers and four lakes area. The main reason being that we were quite tired from the days’ travelling already. The enjoyment of a 1.5 hour boat ride, of which there are a few to do in Yangshuo and Xingping as well, would be diminished.
But it doesn’t do justice to a trip to Guilin if we hadn’t seen its proudest scenery. I figured then that I could visit a restaurant with views for our last dinner in Guilin. I found the Cloud Restaurant.
The Cloud Restaurant, in Chinese Yuanduan, is located at the Lijiang Poyin Hotel. I chose it because of the views that it offers. The restaurant overlooks the Shanhu Lake, and the Sun and Moon towers are clearly in sight. They were very beautiful that evening. What came as a super pleasant surprise was how good the food was. The restaurant serves a “new” kind of Chinese food, with creative presentation and wonderful flavors, but certainly not compromising on the traditional strengths of Chinese cuisine. You may dine by the lake views as al fresco dining is available at the balcony.

Helen Yu (Chestnut Journal) Chasing Rural Charm: Visiting Guilin’s Picturesque Zhuangyuan Bridge
#discoverchina #guilin
Visiting Guilin's Zhuangyuan Bridge is a delightful escape into the picturesque countryside. Just a 40-minute drive from downtown Guilin, you can park by the roadside and explore two ancient stone bridges, each offering slightly different views. The outer bridge is perfect for capturing stunning shots of the surrounding peaks from the roadside, while the left bridge frames a more open landscape, and the right one highlights the serene water and bridge itself. The area is a postcard-perfect scene of vast rice fields and rolling hills, occasionally animated by local farmers and water buffalo—great for adding rustic charm to your photos. For the best shots, wear light, airy outfits like a white sundress, and don’t miss the chance to photograph the buffalo and elderly locals (sometimes hired by other visitors). Bring sunscreen and bug spray, especially in summer, and consider a drone for breathtaking aerial views. Extend your trip with a visit to nearby Tianxin Village, and allow at least two hours to soak in the tranquil beauty of this idyllic spot.

First Impressions of Beautiful Huangyao at the Dayuan Culture Theme Hotel
I was staying at the Dayuan Culture Theme Hotel (Mojia Dayuan, meaning the mansion of the Mo’s). It lies on the southern edge of the ancient town. At this location, the three sub-streams of the Yao river converge.
The Dayuan Culture Theme Hotel is an antique building itself. Originally the building belonged to the Mo clan. In the old times, the villagers referred to it as Xianshan Study. During the times of New China, the government had used the building as a warehouse storage for food. The house was built in the traditional style of siheyuan, which was a very popular building format, particularly in Beijing, for the thousands of years. Buildings are built on all four sides of a courtyard. This format was usually built to give home to large multigenerational households.
The building’s foundation was made of bluestones (limestones) and it took five years just to lay the foundation. In 2008, the government handed this building back to the Mo’s. In 2015, after careful restoration efforts, which included the fitting of materials that mimic an “aged look,” the hotel opened its doors to visitors.

Two Rivers and Four Lakes Night Cruise 🇨🇳
If you ever want to do this cruise in the city center of Guilin then do it at night and the scenery is lit , beautiful lighting all throughout the riverside. The stunning 2 pagodas are a sight to behold ! I can’t recommend this enough as there will be some performances inside and outside the boat while you cruise along the lake / river. We saw the traditional fishing style of Guilin wherein the fishermen use birds to fish. It was really interesting to watch.

Mesmerizing Cave in Guilin! 🇨🇳
📍Reed Flute Cave, Guilin City, Guangxi Province.
This is a massive natural limestone cave that is over 180 million years old. Located 5km from downtown Guilin City, this has become one of the major tourist attractions in the province for about 1,200 years. In modern time, the local government made it more attractive to tourists by enhancing the cave using multi coloured lighting.
How to get there: we just took a didi which was about 20 minute ride from the city center. Acquiring our ticket was a breeze as there were not a lot of people ( your experience might be different if you are going during major Chinese holidays)
Ticket price: 90 ( but trip has a cheaper option of price) and I highly recommend to book in advance using trip app if you are going during holidays.
Length of visit: 1 hour.
Enjoy your trip!

Yangshuo - misty mountains and delicious eats
Yangshuo is a destination I return to at least once a year, drawn by its stunning karst mountain scenery and tranquil atmosphere. Nestled along the Li River, this idyllic town offers a perfect escape from the fast pace of daily life. The iconic karst formations are breathtaking, creating a dramatic backdrop that never fails to inspire awe. Whether you’re hiking, cycling, or simply taking in the view from a quiet resort, the natural beauty here is unmatched.
One of my favorite activities is bamboo rafting on the Li River. Drifting down the calm waters, surrounded by towering peaks and lush greenery, is both serene and immersive. It’s an experience that feels worlds away from the busier tourist hubs. For those who prefer a more active adventure, Yangshuo’s countryside is best explored by bike, with trails leading through picturesque villages and endless fields.
As a parent of three young children, Yangshuo holds even more appeal. The open spaces and fresh air make it a paradise for outdoor play. My kids love exploring the riverside paths, running through the grassy fields, and simply being surrounded by nature. Away from the bustling tourist spots, the quieter resorts provide the perfect base for family adventures. Many cater to families, offering kid-friendly amenities and stunning views.
What makes Yangshuo truly special is its ability to offer something for everyone. It’s a haven for nature lovers, a playground for children, and a retreat for those seeking peace. Whether it’s the joy of watching my children play outdoors or the calm of floating on a bamboo raft, every visit leaves me refreshed and eager to return. For anyone looking for a scenic getaway, Yangshuo is an unforgettable destination.#yangshuo #guilin #china

Hidden Treasures: Exploring the Magical Silver Cave in Guilin
#chinatrip#guilin
Visiting Silver Cave in Guilin was an unforgettable experience, as we ventured into a breathtaking underground world of natural wonders. The cave stretched deep into the karst mountains, revealing a stunning display of stalactites and stalagmites formed over millions of years. Under the colorful lights, the formations glistened like silver and diamonds, creating a magical, dreamlike atmosphere. Each section of the cave seemed to tell a story, from towering columns to crystal-clear pools reflecting the beauty above. Walking through the winding paths, we were constantly amazed by the intricate shapes and textures nature had sculpted over time. It’s no wonder there’s a saying, 游了银子岩,一世不缺钱— visiting Silver Cave truly felt like stepping into a world of hidden treasures.
Morning Serenity on the Li River: A Picture-Perfect Guilin Experience
#chinatrip #guilin
We made the right choice to visit Li River in Guilin as early as possible in the morning and take the first boat ride of the day. The early hours gifted us with a serene and magical experience as the river was calm, almost mirror-like, perfectly reflecting the stunning karst mountains that surround it. The soft morning light cast a gentle glow on the landscape, making the scenery even more enchanting, as if we had stepped into a traditional Chinese ink painting. The tranquility of the moment, with mist lingering over the water and birds gliding silently overhead, was simply unforgettable. Starting the day early allowed us to avoid the crowds and fully immerse ourselves in the beauty and peace of this iconic destination.
THRILLS ON A RUYI GLASS BRIDGE, DON'T LOOK DOWN !
#chinatrip
Walking on the Ruyi Glass Bridge is both stunning and nerve wracking.
The winding high red bridge has breathtaking views of uniquely shaped karst mountains.
The short glass floor section adds a thrilling challenge, looking down amplifies the fear, making legs feel wobbly.
My personal experience, just avoid looking down and walk straight until you reach the end.
The same goes for taking pictures, never ever look down.
Its definitely a mix of awe and terror, but its all worth it.

101Guide: Xingping Ancient Town 兴平古镇 the RMB20 Place
👀 Introduction:
Xingping Ancient City (兴平古镇) or aka Xingping Old Town is located on the banks of the Lijiang River in the north of Yangshuo. Known to be as old as 1700+ you can still see many historical buildings still not dilapidated, which is kinda amazing. I have been to more than 🔟 ancient towns but this really stands out in terms of the ancient bridges 🌉, building architecture 🏢, wharf and other scenic areas.. Simply Amazing!! Also this place is home to the iconic RMB20 💵 scene which I think needs no introduction.
🏖️ The Attraction:
The town is kinda a smallish area which you can probably go round it in 10 or 15mins. It's no way compared to Yangshuo West Street which is much much bigger and more commercialized. However, if you like nature.. imagine having a cuppa coffee with the beautiful mountains ⛰️ as a backdrop or some scenic landscape with the ethnic minorities doing the audio 🔉 overlay. Priceless!!
As with many popular tourist 🏖️ spots in China, the only negativity is the flood of tourist flocking the place (esp in a small place like Xingping Ancient City). From morning the whole place will be super crowded, jamming from cafes ☕ to restaurants 🍲 and even streets. Was lucky to find the Rosemary Cafe (which is also a hotel), located just at the border of the entrance and more importantly . Peaceful. Love the Caramel Macciato ☕ here which was creamy and nice. The staff and people here are super friendly too.. 💡 Recommended for a visit here!
If you have been to Ancient Villages especially near Guilin or Guiyang before, the same stuff applies.. beer fish 🐠, cafes, osmanthus 🌸 flavored products and handicrafts.. Pretty standard stuffs. Strangely, most of the cafes ☕ open quite late. Like I mentioned, this place is definitely not a shopping destination. It's more nature and fresh air...and speaking of that, was told by a local here that the air here is "sweetly fresh" and you can virtually feel it.. every breath you take ☺️. I concur.
🔚 Conclusion
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 4.5/5
The place is really relaxing 🧘♂️ and score full marks in "Nature Therapy" namely calming with positive effect, both mentally and physically. We really enjoyed ourselves here and I wouldn't mind visiting this place again. 💡 Tip: There are 2 alternative routes to this place. We chose the slightly longer way where you go through Yangshuoxian (country road route). Amazing scenic views and the fresh air here is unbelievable. Check it out!!

101Guide: Guilin Central Square - An Evening Walk
#guilin #100waysoftravel
👀 Introduction:
Guilin (桂林) is a scenic town and one of the best-known tourist destinations in China 🇨🇳. These include Longsheng (Longji rice terraces), the Elephant 🐘 Trunk Hill, the Li River, which is printed on the back of ¥20 bank notes 💵, Yangshuo, a small county downstream from Guilin. This post only explores the surroundings of Guilin Central Square and aims to offer a quick guide for tourist here. 💡 Fun Fact: Guilin actually stands for “Forest of Sweet Osmanthus”, which is why you will notice Osmanthus everywhere around here.
🏖️ The Attractions:
Our starting point was JieFang Bridge 🌉 (解放桥) which is a pretty good instagrammable spot 📸. Whilst the bridge 🌉 itself isn't really appealing (esp the daytime ☀️) but at night 🌃 .. the bridge has light blue lighting which looks rather cool. Not to be missed, there is also a Pagoda (Zhuangyuan Lang) to the North West. We made our way to the lower deck of Binjiang Road which you will find many livestream and music 🎶 enthusiasts doing live shows. The place is also famous with locals as a fishing 🎣 spot.
On the BinJiang Road 滨江路, there is currently a long stretch of night-market which has food stalls, arts 🎨 & crafts stuffs, books 📚 and other interesting items for sale here. The place is super crowded especially around live performances of bands 🎸 and live streaming of singers. The crowd here comes from all walks of life 👭.
We then proceeded to the Guilin Central Square Night Market which we stopped by for our dinner @ JinJiang PiJiu Yu 金奖啤酒鱼 for Guilin's Signature Beer Fish 🐠. The dish 🍲 fared averagely only here but I'm sure there are better ones around since we were spoilt for choices here at the night market. We made our way to Jiefang West Road which is also filled with a wide variety of food from western pizzas 🍕 to some local delicacies.
Synonymous with the Guilin name, the Guilin Central Square Night Market is also famous for Osmanthus products which ranges from food, biscuits, perfume, coffee ☕ to tea 🍵. Basically you can find most edible products "flavored" with Osmanthus. I personally like the Bean Curd Osmanthus which is really nice and delicious 😋.
Guilin is also well known for its snacks and the use of spices, especially chili. So for Chilli 🌶️ lovers you can consider buying some spices and food ingredients here. Anyway, the no 1 chili sauce here is made from fresh chili, garlic and fermented soybeans. 💡 Tip: It is considered as one of Guilin’s three treasures.
To quench out thirst, we stopped at the Back Garden Irish Pub to basically chill and relax after a long walk. This place serves foreign draft beers 🍻 on-tap such as Tiger 🐯 Beer and Guinness Draft, which the manager claims they are the only one in the whole of Guilin. The manager and guests are nice and friendly too.

Thrilling and Scenic Bamboo Rafting Adventure at Guilin's Yulong River
#rafting #100waysoftravel #bamboorafting #china #Guilin
Rafting at Yulong River in Guilin is a must-do activity and a great way to take in the stunning scenery of the area. The rafts, made of bamboo, are navigated by skilled raft masters with each raft accommodating two people. The raft masters are incredibly skilled, especially when maneuvering over the rocks during downhill sections. Even as we braced ourselves and held onto the rail tightly, a little nervous, the raft remained stable, never flipping over. It was a thrilling experience, but we felt safe under their expert control, allowing us to fully enjoy the beauty of Guilin’s landscapes.
The most amazing part is that we didn’t get completely soaked—just our feet got a little wet. However, I still recommend wearing waterproof shoes, just in case. That way, you can fully enjoy the rafting experience without worrying about getting wet, making the adventure even more relaxed and enjoyable.
Li River, one of Earth's most beautiful wonders
Originating in Mao'er Mountain in Xing'an county northeast of Guilin, the Li River winds its way southeast for about 437 km, passing through Guilin, Yangshuo, Pingle, Zhaoping and finally meets Xi River in Wulin. It boasts the largest and most beautiful scenic area in China and attracts thousands of visitors each year.
The 83-km-long waterway from Guilin to Yangshuo is like a masterpiece. The landscape is decorated with rolling hills, steep cliffs, fantastic caves, leisurely boats and is lined with bamboo.
Most people who love Guilin scenery will also have a crush on the fishing scene: poling on a little bamboo raft, the fisherman light the kerosene lamp with a cormorant standing next to him and are ready to catch the fish. This classic scene is rarely to be seen since people who make a living out of fishing are less and less.
