The Mezquita of Cordoba is absolutely beautiful, with the outside orange garden, the amazing mixture of architecture styles & the stunning Cathedral inside is easily one of the most impressive buildings in the World. The giant red & white columns are the most recognisable feature, they create a magical experience walking through them. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Ronda, and it exceeded all my expectations. Ronda, Andalusia Spain Ronda is a stunning hill top town within driving distance of the Costa Del Sol, it can be done on it’s own or as a pit stop on the way to Seville or Cadiz. Probably most famous for it’s bridge the town is a beautiful glimpse into the past with the majority of it’s historic city center and back streets perfectly preserved. The bridge was built in 1759 and this bridge alone makes the town worth a visit, it’s really hard to comprehend how it was built so long ago and still stands today. There are multiple places to view the bridge and the majority of them are free, there are pathways that cross the road and snake around the surrounding streets. There are a few bars and restaurants with outdoor seating and patios but they are very expensive compared to standard restaurants in the town, you can get a good enough view from the free spots. There are lots of chocolate shops, patisseries and cafes for those who have a sweet spot and also plenty of traditional tapas bars for those wanting a more filling meal. I went in winter but still enjoyed a lot of amazing ice cream, it’s never too cold for delicious gelato. There is an old bull fighting arena you can visit along with a beautiful park sitting on the edge of a cliff which gives stunning views of the surrounding valleys. It’s very accessible by road with plenty of parking, we parked at the northern edge of the town and walked through the winding streets to the center. Seville, Andalusia Spain Seville is the capital and largest city in the Spanish province of Andalusia. It is most famous for it’s oranges, cathedral and pastries and it should be high on the list of cities to see in Spain. A 2 hour drive from Costa Del Sol it’s a nice change of pace from the beach life of the coast. The city has stunning architecture, wide boulevards and plenty of historical landmarks to enjoy. The cathedral itself is stunning, it’s one of the largest churches in the world and the sheer scale of it is hard to comprehend until you step inside. The original features have been well maintained and there is so much history to take in, including the tomb of world renowned explorer Christopher Columbus. The city itself is very walkable and there is a lot of visible navigation, if you need help there are lots of tourist information points and very efficient public transport. I really enjoyed the cafe culture and even visiting in the winter it was nice to sit outside with a coffee and pastry and watch the world go by. During the summer months you can see the infamous orange trees lining the streets and the cafes will sell the freshest orange juice you can get. Alhambra Palace, Grenada, Andalusia Spain The Alhambra palace is a fascinating landmark and icon of southern Spain, a must see if you are traveling within Andalusia. Easily accessible by high speed rail or motorway Granada itself is a beautiful city worth visiting, with it’s hilltop palace the crowing glory. At over 1800 years old this magnificent palace is a combination of architectural styles and features as the palace changed hands so many times between Christans and Muslims. It is one of the most in tact examples of medieval Islamic architecture and it is something you have to see to believe. Starting at the bottom you can take side streets from central Granda that give way to a cobbled path that starts the boundaries of the palace grounds. Working your way up the hill you can see the sheer scale of the building before you. Within the grounds there are various different buildings to explore, each with their own historical and architectural story and identity. Along with it these buildings offer stunning views of the city below and the surrounding areas. There are plenty of toilets, gift shops and places to buy snacks and beverages but the palace does get overwhelmed by tour groups at times. I went early on a weekday morning so managed to avoid the rush, but by about 11 the place was very full. Certain areas are only accessible with tickets but the majority of the grounds and lesser known buildings are free to enter. I didn’t get the tickets to access all areas but still managed to see plenty of areas within the grounds. There is also a car park on site but again that gets very busy and it is quite expensive compared to the area, best option is to drive into the city or get public transport and make your way into the palace on foot #andalucia #spain #alhambra #palace #history #architecture #summervacation #travelinspiration

Malaga, Andalusia Spain. As a child I came here so many times with my parents and this city has always felt very special to me, it’s such a beautiful part of Spain and perfect for a weekend away. The city centers on beautiful shopping streets lined with marble where little alley ways take you away to cafes, markets and churches. The cathedral is an imposing feature that towers above the smaller side streets around it, you can go in to take in the sheer scale of the building. The central market is a buzz of activity with all the fresh produce you could need, the streets surrounding it are a network of cafes, restaurants and patisseries. The main shopping street contains all the big western brands you could need, as well as local craft shops and souvenir stands. There are also lots of malls and a big El Corte Ingles within a 15 minute walk of the city center if you’re after more shopping. The city has two main stations, one for high speed rail across Spain and one for the commuter rail towards Torremolinos. The commuter rail is very cheap and efficient and a good way to explore the little towns and cities along the coast. #tripblazers #Spain #Malaga #andalucia #summervacation

Alhaurin El Grande is a town with a population of about 25 000 people in the province of Malaga In Andalusia, Spain. The town has a long history and traces of old civilizations can be found from there including Roman and Moorish remains. To my eye the town looks more Moorish than other towns nearby so I became interested and made a quick trip there. It only takes about 30 minutes to drive there from Costa del Sol. You have a chance to take the bigger roads from Fuengirola or Marbella or select the scenic and indeed road with steep inclines via Mijas Pueblo. The town has a very Spanish atmosphere. It’s definitely not crowded with tourists and the historic center is very beautiful but keeps its original and somehow even rugged style. The restaurants are filled with local people going through their almost endless discussions about the matters they are interested of. I had a Sunday afternoon off and decided to go to a place I have never been before so I ended up going to Alhaurin El Grande, a town in Andalusia, Spain not far from Malaga. I decided to have a very Spanish moment and went to a cafeteria to have some tapas for afternoon snack. I chose Bar El Timon, a cozy little bar/cafeteria near the center of Alhaurin El Grande (the address is: Calle Gerald Brenan 9). The place has easy to remember opening hours. It’s open from 8 am until midnight every day and offers a variety of Spanish tapas and also pizzas, bar products and tasty coffee. The prices are very local. An afternoon snack with three types of tapas, beer, water and coffee costs less than 10 euros so the price-quality is very good. If you want to see how the Spanish people really spend their free time, go there. They accept payments with international credit cards but you may encounter some language barrier if you don’t speak Spanish. #spain #andalucia #tapas #costadelsol

Caramelized / candied Almonds (Garrapiñadas) are a popular local specialty that is available in Andalusia in Spain. Actually basically same way of preparing almonds can be found from some other countries in Europe (Switzerland, Germany, Nordic Counties) but to me it only feels local food in Spain and especially in Costa del Sol. There are stalls everywhere from where you can buy thse delicacies and the price is usually only a few euros per packet. Sometimes they also sell sunflower seeds or peanuts that have been made in the same way. For me, I sometimes want them so much that I end up buying a box from a stall (mainly for tourists) I just love them. So if you’re traveling in Spain just try them. Attractions - Nearby village Gaucín around 7km and best to travel by car or via hotel mini bus to Ronda (a real historical site and gorge not to be missed) and also Estepona beach which is organised via hotel. Hotel - Stayed at Karma group hotel as per photos, Hacienda La Herriza. Very remote and rustic vibes. Food & Restaurants - There is an on-site restaurant is ok for daily eating but would recommend trying cuisine more further out to really get a feel for Andalusian cuisine. Lots of Iberian ham and pork as to be expected but there are other options too. Shopping - Best to visit other areas and take a trip for tourist shopping such as Ronda.
