🌿💦 Laos: Discovering Southeast Asia's "Mini Jiuzhaigou" at Kuang Si Falls!
#summervacay
Day two of my Laos tour led me from the serene rice field cafes straight to the breathtaking Kuang Si Falls
This hidden gem, often dubbed "Southeast Asia's Mini Jiuzhaigou," truly lives up to its name. The falls are a mesmerizing cascade of milky-blue travertine pools, layering one after another as the water tumbles down. It's an incredibly picturesque sight!
Kuang Si Falls is actually made up of multiple tiers of waterfalls. Locals believe the water here, rich in minerals, possesses magical healing properties, earning it the affectionate nickname "Fairy Bathing Pool." It's easy to see why – the vibrant turquoise water invites you to take a refreshing dip.
If you're in Laos, Kuang Si Falls is an absolute must-visit for its stunning natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere!

If you are a true coffee lover looking for a good cafe in Luang Prabang, I would recommend Lulalao Coffee! This small cafe is really famous for its coffee. It does not focus on many food or dessert menus, but the quality of the coffee is the best.
The atmosphere of the shop is simple, airy and quiet, perfect for sitting and sipping coffee in the afternoon or working. The decoration emphasizes warmth with wood and natural light, making you feel relaxed.

Review of "Nam Sai Cliff Climbing" (Vang Vieng) – A memorable trip
If anyone comes to Vang Vieng and doesn't come here, it's a mistake! Nam Sai Cliff Climbing is another landmark that you shouldn't miss. For this trip, we chose a very convenient way to travel by asking the hotel to contact a songthaew for us, which was great. The driver took us to the place and even waited to pick us up. We didn't have to worry about the transportation at all.
Transportation & Atmosphere Along the Way:
I must say that the atmosphere along the way by songthaew was very good! Both sides of the road were full of natural scenery and the air was very fresh. It was an impressive start to the trip even before reaching the destination.
Tips & Experiences:
I would recommend going early in the morning. It's the best! We arrived at around 7 am. There weren't many people, so we could walk up comfortably without having to squeeze in with anyone. Most importantly, the photos came out very beautiful because there were no people in the frame.
We spent time at the top and walked down at around 9 am. When we walked down, there were a lot of people walking up. If we had gone later, There might be a lot of queueing or jostling.
Overall:
Phib Pha Nam Sai is a place worth visiting. Whether it's the beautiful scenery, the good atmosphere along the way, or the quietness in the morning, we got a lot of beautiful photos and good memories. Anyone who comes to Vang Vieng must come here!

Travelers from many countries can easily get a Visa on Arrival when entering Laos by air or land. The process is quick and straightforward, but there are a few small details to keep in mind.

Citizens of over 150 countries (including most Western and Asian nations) are eligible for a Visa on Arrival at international airports and many land border crossings.
💵 Visa Fee & Duration

* Validity: 30 days (single entry, can be extended in Laos)
* Processing Time: 10–15 minutes
📋 Required Documents
1. 1 passport-sized photo
2. Passport valid for at least 6 months
3. Two forms (visa application form + arrival/departure card)
4. $40 USD in cash (bring exact amount if possible)
5. Pen (recommended — helps avoid delays at busy borders)

3. Attach your passport photo to the form.

⚠️ Tips for a Smooth Experience

* Check the border post hours if crossing by land — not all are open 24/7.
* If traveling in high season or during holidays, allow extra time for processing.
* Some border points may charge slightly different fees — this is common.
Vientiane Travel Summary
#citypassguide #vientiane #laos
Vientiane is the capital of Laos, but to be honest, there isn’t too much to do. I visited on December 2nd, which was National Day, so most museums were closed. I still managed to see a few monuments, visited the night market, and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.
Places I Visited:
Patuxay – Victory Monument
The national independence monument. You can go up to the top for a panoramic view of the city.
Tipsy Elephant Vientiane Rooftop Lounge
This was the best sunset spot I could find. Probably one of the best places in town to relax in the evening.
Night Market
The largest night market I’ve seen in Laos. There’s a clear separation between areas selling clothes and food. The city has a noticeable presence of Chinese investment, with lots of malls, cafes, and modern infrastructure.
Accommodation:
I stayed at Sailomyen Cafe & Hostel. It’s not directly in the center but within walking distance to most places. They offer free breakfast, and if you’re leaving early, you can request a takeaway breakfast.
Optional:
If you have more time in Vientiane, you can visit Buddha Park (Wat Xieng Khouane Luang) — it’s located outside the city but worth seeing.
3 days trip in Vang Vieng, Laos
#citypassguide #vangvieng #laos
After a 9-hour journey, I arrived in Vang Vieng, where I spent 3 nights and explored the town over 2 full days. It’s a laid-back, hippie-style town with plenty of activities — you can even take a hot air balloon ride. There are many hiking trails and around 7–9 lagoons in the area. I visited Lagoons 1, 2, 3, and 4 where you can swim or just relax and sunbathe.
I rented a motorbike from my hostel for 180,000 kip/day, while a friend rented one from outside for 170,000 kip.
Lagoons:
Lagoon 1: The most crowded one, especially with Korean tourists — likely due to a 2014 Korean travel show that featured it along with the nearby Sakura Bar. Mostly middle-aged tour groups. There's also a cave above the lagoon you can explore (around 200m in).
Lagoon 2: Loses sunlight after 11:20 AM, so plan your visit earlier if you want to swim.
Lagoon 3: Sun disappears around 11:30 AM. It has a younger, livelier crowd. There’s a cave here too — although the entrance looks narrow, it’s easy to navigate inside.
Lagoon 4: A 30-minute motorbike ride away. Quiet, sunny all day, and not crowded. Near here is the Loup Cave, worth visiting if you have extra time.
Tham Nam (Water Cave):
One of the most unique cave experiences I had. You float inside the cave on a tube for around 300 meters. Near the end, the water actually starts to feel warmer.
Viewpoints:
Vang Vieng is full of scenic viewpoints. I climbed two mountains and visited three viewpoints in total, but there are 4–5 options around the town.
Nam Xay Viewpoint: The most famous one. Many people go here to take photos with motorbikes at the top — sometimes you may have to wait in line for a picture.
Phapoungkham Cave & Viewpoint: There are two viewpoints and one cave here. Be sure to bring a flashlight for any cave visits.
Elevate 9: Perfect for watching sunset and hot air balloons. Surprisingly affordable despite its great view.
Bars & Nightlife:
Sakura Bar: The biggest and most popular — especially with Korean tourists.
Irish Bar and Full Moon Bar are also lively spots worth checking out.
Transportation:
I traveled from Vang Vieng to Vientiane in 1.5 hours by minivan. The train takes even less — around 45 minutes to 1 hour. Unlike the rough roads in northern Laos, this route is a proper highway, so vehicles move fast. The minivan picked me up directly from my hostel and cost 140,000 kip.
Nong Khiaw Travel Experience
#citypassguide #laos #nongkhiaw
I spent 2 nights in Nong Khiaw. Accommodation is relatively expensive compared to other places in Laos, typically ranging between $10–12 per night. The town is mostly visited by people coming for trekking. There are popular 2- or 3-day trekking routes. I hiked to two different viewpoints myself. 😀
As of November 2024, the road to Nong Khiaw was in very poor condition. Although the journey should take around 4–5 hours, the numerous potholes make the minivan ride much slower.
If you join a guided tour, everything is usually included: trekking, accommodation, meals, and transportation. On the first day, you hike to a viewpoint; on the second day, you stay in a village; and on the last day, you kayak along the river. I paid around $14 for a round trip to/from Nong Khiaw. Alternatively, you can rent a motorbike from Luang Prabang to explore the area on your own.
Viewpoints:
Nong Khiaw Viewpoint: One of the best places to watch the sunset. It’s also a popular camping spot. While I was there, a group was setting up their tents to camp overnight.
Sleeping Lady Peak Viewpoint: The most challenging hike for me. I started at around 3 PM and it took me about 40 minutes to reach the top. This spot is often visited for sunrise hikes.
There are also caves in the area, some containing leeches, so I decided to skip them. You can also go kayaking on the river.
You can take a boat ride to Muang Ngoy, a nearby village about an hour away. Some of my friends stayed overnight there, and I recommend visiting if you have extra time.
My suggestion: If you're comfortable riding a motorbike and can handle rough roads, renting a bike from Luang Prabang is a great way to explore Nong Khiaw. Besides viewpoints, there are also caves and museums worth visiting. Personally, I focused on hiking to viewpoints during my stay.
Places to Visit in Luang Prabang
#citypassguide #luangprabang #laos
Luang Prabang – Travel Summary
Luang Prabang is one of the more developed cities in Laos, and due to the Chinese train line passing through, it attracts a large number of Chinese tourists. As a UNESCO World Heritage city and a key stop for both the slow boat and the China-Laos railway, it's a very popular destination among travelers. I personally liked the city. There are several waterfalls, caves, and villages to explore. One of the most iconic activities here is the early morning almsgiving ceremony with the monks around 6 AM.
Here are some of the places I visited:
Kuang Si Waterfall
You can visit this beautiful waterfall by joining a daily tour or renting a motorbike. The entrance fee is 60,000 kip. For an extra 30,000 kip, you can hike up to a scenic viewpoint and get a free soft drink. Nearby, there's also a bear rescue center you can visit. On the way to the falls, there's a buffalo farm where you can try ice cream made from buffalo milk.
Phousi Hill
A popular sunset spot with a 30,000 kip entrance fee. It gets crowded during sunset, and unfortunately, I couldn’t catch a clear view because of the cloudy weather.
UXO Lao Visitor Center
A small but powerful museum about unexploded bombs dropped during the Vietnam War. Laos is said to be the most heavily bombed country per capita, and the clearance efforts are still ongoing.
Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre
This museum offers insights into the diverse ethnic groups of Laos. Entrance is 35,000 kip.
Jungala Lounge Bar
A stylish lakeside bar with a cozy atmosphere. I visited twice and had a great time relaxing there.
Almsgiving Ceremony
The morning almsgiving ceremony starts with preparations around 5:30 AM. Monks begin their walk around 6 AM, and the ceremony ends by 6:30–7:00 AM. Visitors can either participate respectfully or simply observe.

"Encountering fabrics and interacting with people. A special time spent at Ok Pok in Luang Prabang"
Located along the Mekong River in Luang Prabang, Laos, Ock Pop Tok is a wonderful place where you can experience textile culture. With a workshop where you can actually experience traditional cloth making, a gallery where you can encounter handicrafts, and a cafe where you can relax, it is popular as a place where you can have a deep experience in addition to sightseeing.
⸻
■ Access from the city
It is about a 10-minute tuk-tuk ride from the city center.
It is located south along the river, just tell the local driver "Ock Pop Tok". You can easily search it on Google Maps.
※If you make a reservation, Ock Pop Tok staff may give you a free shuttle to the city (please check).

■ Workshop contents (advance reservation recommended)
All workshops are in English, so even beginners can feel at ease.

Mystery in the Heart of Laos: The Plain of Jars
#postandearn #laos #Plainofjars
Have you ever heard of the Plain of Jars? Located in Xieng Khouang Province, Laos, this mysterious archaeological site is home to thousands of giant stone jars scattered across the landscape — some weighing up to several tons!
Dating back to around 500 BCE, no one knows exactly what they were used for. Some believe they were ancient burial urns, while others think they were used to store food, water, or even rice wine. 🧐🍶
Surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and steeped in legend, the Plain of Jars remains one of Southeast Asia’s greatest unsolved mysteries. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a powerful reminder of both ancient civilizations and more recent history — the area was heavily bombed during the Vietnam War, and many parts remain off-limits due to unexploded ordnance.
Laos City Walk
Wandering Vientiane on foot is a delight! The city unfolds at a relaxed pace, revealing golden-roofed temples like Wat Si Saket and the grand Pha That Luang. I loved strolling past the French colonial architecture, a charming reminder of the past. The bustling morning market offered a sensory overload of colors and scents. Evenings by the Mekong River were magical, watching the sunset paint the sky. It's a friendly city, easy to navigate, and full of unexpected little discoveries around each corner. A true highlight of my Southeast Asia trip!

If you come to Nong Khiaw, don't miss going up to the 360-degree viewpoint
of Nong Khiaw Village. The distance is about 3.4 km. It takes about 1.30-2 hours to walk. #Very tiring
The path is not difficult, but it is a detour. The view from above is magnificent. The entrance fee is in the tens. The view is worth millions. There is a sea of fog all the time.
It is even more awesome if you can set up a tent up there. You can see both the sunset and the sea of fog in the morning. Next time, you have to stay here.

Laos Temple Beauty
Vientiane, the capital of Laos, boasts a captivating array of temples, reflecting the country's deep Buddhist heritage. Many were erected in the 16th century, during the reign of King Setthathirath, who established Vientiane as the Lan Xang Kingdom's capital. Though many succumbed to Siamese invaders in 1827, significant temples remain.
Wat Si Saket stands as the oldest, remarkably preserved temple, housing thousands of Buddha images. Pha That Luang, the nation's most sacred monument, gleams with gold leaf and is believed to enshrine a Buddha relic. The former royal temple, Haw Phra Kaew, once sheltered the Emerald Buddha and now displays notable Buddhist sculptures. These sacred sites offer a glimpse into Laos' rich spiritual and artistic traditions.
