History and Culture
Tirana was founded in 1614 by the Ottoman Albanian general, Sulejman Pasha Bargjini, who built a mosque, Turkish baths, and a market as the forerunner of the city. However, this area has been inhabited since the Iron Age and is believed to be the center of the Illyrian Kingdom of Taulantii in ancient times.
During the 20th century, Tirana underwent various changes, including foreign occupation and communist regimes. After the fall of communism, the city underwent a massive revitalization, with colorfully painted buildings and renewed public spaces, reflecting the new spirit of Albania.
Modern Life and Tourism
Tirana is now known as a lively and colorful city, with a combination of Ottoman, Italian, and communist architecture. The city offers various attractions, such as Skanderbeg Square, Et'hem Bey Mosque, National Museum of History, and Bunk'Art, an underground museum depicting the history of the communist regime.
The Blloku area, which used to be exclusive to the communist elite, is now the center of nightlife with cafes, restaurants, and art galleries. In addition, tourists can enjoy the city view from Mount Dajti by using the Dajti Express cable car.#travel #staycation #citydaytours #familytravel
