Visiting the Rome Colosseum was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Standing in front of this ancient wonder, I was completely in awe of its grandeur and the incredible history it holds. Walking through the massive stone arches and standing where gladiators once fought made me feel like I had stepped back thousands of years into the heart of Roman civilization.
Every corner of the Colosseum tells a story — from the weathered stone walls to the underground chambers that once held wild animals and brave warriors. The guided tour added so much depth to the experience, helping me imagine the roar of the crowd and the vibrant atmosphere that once filled this iconic arena. It was not just a sightseeing visit, but a real journey into the past.
If you ever find yourself in Rome, a visit to the Colosseum is absolutely a must. It’s a powerful reminder of human creativity, strength, and resilience — and trust me, standing there in person is even more breathtaking than any photo could ever capture!
Rome If You Want To — History, Gelato & 30k Steps
#Rome didn’t just give “eternal city.”
She gave:
religious trauma, 47,000 steps a day, pasta-induced enlightenment, gladiator thirst traps, and at least one moment where I dramatically stared at the Trevi Fountain like I was in a Lana Del Rey music video.
Every corner is ancient — like “Julius Caesar probably ghosted someone right here” levels of ancient.
But also? Somehow every Roman still looks like they woke up inside a Gucci ad.
I ate cacio e pepe like it was my birthright, and almost joined a Vespa gang out of boredom and bad decisions.
Rome isn’t just a city — she’s a full-blown situationship.
A little messy, extremely iconic, and guaranteed to leave you emotionally attached and mildly sunburnt.
BRB, journaling from the Spanish Steps like I’m running from a past life.

Learn about the fascinating ancient city of Rome here at the Roman Forum.
Wander around these ruins of an ancient Roman city & imagine how life was like back then. Be in awe of how people were able to build such grand structures in an era where modern technology was non-existent. There are several packages you can buy online. Buy the ones that couple it with the Colosseum and if possible, get the ones that show you a video presentation of the Roman Forum. It helps a lot in visualizing how the city looked like in the past.

Painted Frescoes at the Palazzo
One of the most outstanding and beautiful parts of the Palazzo Altemps is the painted frescoes on the walls ceilings of the Loggia on the first floor. The Frisco’s are meant to depict a secret garden and the ceiling frescoes are painted in such a way that they give a 3D impression, it really is something quite special. The Palazzo Altemps is a really underrated museum but should be on everyone’s Rome bucket list!

Courtyard of the Palazzo Altemps
The courtyard of the Palazzo Altemps, really gives you an idea of the grand scale of the palace that this building was before it became a museum. In the courtyard you will find four Roman statues and a splendid fountain and nymphaeum. The palace dates from the 15th century, it was owned by various different private individuals over the years, even including the Holy See, today is his property of the Italian government. It’s a really underrated museum and rarely very crowded.

One of Rome‘s Hidden Gems
Not far from the Piazza Navona in Rome, you will find a beautiful little church of Santa Maria della Pace, and it really is a hidden gem in Rome. The current church dates from 1482. It contains beautiful works of art including delightful frescoes by famous artists within its internal chapels. When I visited this church in January, there was almost no one else there, definitely would recommend.

Flavian Palace
The Flavian palace is a vast palace on the Palatine Hill in Rome was completed around 90 2AD. It contains huge public rooms for official business and continued in use until the end of the Roman Empire. It contained a beautiful courtyard garden with water features a lot of which can still be seen today. It was really incredible to walk around these wounds and imagine what life would’ve been like for the ancient Roman emperors.

Temple of Divine Romulus
The Temple of Divine Romulus most likely dates form the early fourth century and was originally a temple but then became part of a church. This is probably why it survived so intact, in fact it is one of the best preserved structures in the Roman Forum. The doors of the temple of Romulus are particularly noteworthy as they are the original bronze doors form the original temple that are still in use today and the original key still exists. Sadly the Temple of Romulus is closed at the moment but if you visit the Basilica of Saints Cosmas and Damian, you can view the interior of this ancient temple.

A Temple Then a Church
The Temple of Antoninus and Faustina was built in 141 A.D. and is dedicated to Emperor Antoninus and his wife Faustina. The eight Corinthian columns at the front of the temple of 17 metres in height. At some point in time the temple was converted to the Church of San Lorenzo in Miranda possibly as early as the seventh century. This is one of the most striking structures in the Roman Forum.

The Virtue of the Vestals
The House of the Vestals in the Roman Forum was the residence of the Vestal Virgins. The building was originally a three story 50 Roome Palace sitting at the foot of the Palatine Hill. Today remains of the statues of the vessel virgins can be seen among the ruins. It isn’t one of the most iconic of the ruins in the Roman Forum but wandering among the ancient walls and corridors is still a thrilling experience.

It’s a Basilica But Not a church
The Basilica of Maxentius, is in fact a basilica but not a basilica in the way that most would think of today, nowadays a basilica is a large and important church used for religious purposes but in ancient Rome a basilica served a variety of functions. It could be a courthouse, a council chamber, a meeting hall l. However there were numerous statues of gods displayed in the niches, not so dissimilar to more ‘modern’ basilicas and their statues of the Saints.

Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major
Visiting Rome during the Catholic Jubilee was such an amazing experience. One of the things I really wanted to do was visit the Major Papal Basilicas, which Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major is one. The present church on the site was consecrated in 434 and was the first church dedicated to Saint Mary in the Western world. The facade and interiors are exquisite.

The Colosseum - A Gladiator's Pride
#favouriteitinerary A must go when in Rome, we set aside half a day to make a trip to the Colosseum.
Ticketing was slightly stressful as we had to pre-book it online. It's a really popular tourist attraction! There's lots of people everywhere, but you will still get your chance for that perfect insta-worthy shots!
IMO, the external looks more grandiose while the internal was kinda shocking. Maybe it's due to the wear-and-tear or how they wanted to show both the complexity of the architecture and the history of the location.
Nonetheless, it's still one of the places you must visit when traveling in Rome!
