Two churches in one that present the passage of time!
#aprilblooms
The Church of San Fermo Maggiore in Verona presents a captivating visual experience through its unique architectural layering. Stepping inside, you're immediately struck by the presence of two distinct churches, one built directly above the other.
In the lower #church, the light here is often more subdued, adding to the feeling of stepping back in time. It evokes a sense of humbleness with its lack of ornaments and large painting. Instead, it relies purely on the calm #atmosphere.
Ascending to the upper church is like entering a completely different world. Here, soaring #gothic arches reach towards the heavens, bathed in light streaming through large windows. The ornate decorations, intricate artwork, and vibrant colors give a wow effect.
The styles and techniques vary significantly between the two levels, offering a fascinating study in artistic evolution. The sheer ingenuity of constructing two churches in this manner is remarkable. It invites you to consider the different purposes and artistic sensibilities that shaped each space.
The entrance fee for the church comes at 4 euros, but it comes cheaper if you buy a set of entrances to multiple churches in the city of Verona.

Spending a day in Prague feels like stepping into a fairytale. I started my morning with a quiet stroll across the Charles Bridge, watching the sunrise paint the Vltava River in gold. Exploring Old Town Square, I was captivated by the Astronomical Clock’s hourly show before grabbing a fresh trdelník from a street vendor. A visit to Prague Castle offered breathtaking city views, and by evening, I found myself enjoying a riverside dinner with the illuminated castle in the distance. With its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant atmosphere, Prague is the perfect place to lose yourself for a day.
🇵🇹 St. Francis Church and Museum in Porto
The Saint Francis Church is one of the most famous religious landmarks in the historic centre of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is renowned for blending a variety of architectural styles, most notably Gothic and Baroque.
The museum is located in the adjoining spaces of the former Franciscan convent. It offers a historical perspective on the Franciscan Order and its role in Porto. It features a range of artifacts, from religious sculptures and paintings to more secular items related to the history of the church and convent.
One of the most unique features of the museum is access to the catacombs, where the graves of Franciscan friars and other prominent figures are located. It’s a somewhat eerie but fascinating visit.

The Gothic best of Haute-de-France
#myhiddengems
I am into medival destinations and with over 60 medival monuments scattered all across the city of Amiens. This destination offers spectacle of rich heritage and Gothic influenced architecture. While the biggest draw for tourists tends to be the Gothic cathedral. This is France’s largest gothic Cathedral and the second largest in Northern Europe. At 140 metres long and 70 metres wide you could fit two Notre Dame de Paris inside, with space to spare.
Definitely worth a few hours for the gothic lovers. And if i remember correctly. I think i oaid about 6 euros for the entry. But there is more to Amiens, beyond the cathedral. Based on my time there, allow me to share a few pointers. I have a memory fo a nice light show in the evening called Chroma. Though I was told it only happened during mid November till Christmas markets. It was free and spectacular.
The next day I walked to the Picardy museum. While the art collection is nice. This 19th century building itself is stunning. That was followed with a visit to the house of the famous author Jules Verne (of around the world in 80 days' fame. Apparently he had married a local and settled down here.
Other than that you have the Jules vernes circus, numerous unesco heritage sites, the quaint and beautiful streets of Saint Leu, great local cuisine and depending on your interest, several tours to take.

Philomena's Cathedral in Mysuru is a remarkable example of Gothic architecture. The majestic church, built to honour the memory of Saint Philomena, a Latin Catholic Saint of the Roman Catholic Church, draws inspiration from the beautiful Cologne Cathedral of Germany.

Fascinating Cathedral
#celebratewithtrip
Köln Dom or Cologne Cathedral is one of the most beautiful cathedrals that I saw in my travels in Europe. The gothic style cathedral is amazingly beautiful and it is worth it to see and visit the place!
We went there from Frankfurt by ICE (Inter City Express, german bullet trains). It was about 2 hours train ride. We bought the the 2nd class ticket and it has no big difference with the 1st class ticket in terms of comfortability. The ride was quiet and relaxing!
You can get a cheaper price and a better time departure if you book your ticket ahead of time, about 3-5 months in advance.

Sacred Heart Cathedral - Guangzhou
Sacred Heart Cathedral is located at 56, Yide Road, Yuexiu District,Guangzhou, China.
It is known as the "Stone House" by the locals, and I think it is because the entire cathedral was built with granite blocks.
Mysterious atmosphere and colorful glass windows. Truly a magnificent place in the city.
To Get There you can take the subway Line 2 or 6 to Haizhu Square and exit at B2, then continue to walk (enjoying the beautiful buildings on the way) about half a kilometer and it will be on your right.
A lot of small shops around the area - we bought delicious dried fruit from the store next door.

⛪ Church of the Savior
Xishiku Catholic Church, also called Xishiku Church (or Salvador Church, meaning Christ Church), Northern Church is located west of Zhongnanhai, at Canchikou and west of Ziguang Pavilion, so it is also called Canchikou Church. The sanctuary was later moved to Xishiku Street as Catholic North Church.
Xishiku Church is now the largest Catholic Church in Beijing. The style of the building is in typical Gothic style and it is famous for its grand architecture. Two pavilions with green glazed tile roofs were built on each side in front of the church with stone columns and stone lions surrounding and guarding the place of worship, adding the architectural style of Chinese gardens

Travel bac
Travel back to the 19th century as you step onto the square in front of Guangzhou's Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Apparently the largest all-granite church in the world, the Gothic cathedral, nicknamed the Stone House, 石室, was first constructed in the 1860s, led by French missionaries. At the time, its spires towered over the surrounding buildings and locals allegedly feared it would damage the feng shui of the area. Now it is dwarfed by nearby skyscrapers and cannot be seen from very far, but once on the square, it still dominates its immediate neighbourhood. It was damaged in the Second World War and used as a warehouse during the Cultural Revolution, but it has since been well restored, including new stained glass windows and a better quality roof.
The sharp double spires have become a symbol of Guangzhou, featuring alongside Canton Tower and the Five Goats statue in Yuexiu Park in posters and advertising throughout the city.
The cathedral is sometimes open for sightseeing or private prayer between mass, but the main gate seems to be open somewhat sporadically. The square outside the gate is the best place to view the whole façade though and is a popular spot for selfies in Old Canton.
The Sacred Heart Cathedral is a short walk from Haizhu Square 海珠广场站 and Yidelu 一德路站 metro stations. Yide Road itself is home to many wholesalers offering everything from electronics to dried seahorses and is an interesting place for window shopping, and the north embankment of the Pearl River is only a short walk away.

Munich, Germany - Gothic & Modern Together
First time to Munich and the architecture didn't disappoint. A real mix of gothic, ornate buildings and modern architecture.
Vibrant and busy city centre, lots to see, do, eat and drink. The clock tower on the state building chimes but also the figurines move on certain hours of the day.
Worth a trip if you like cities with diversity and culture. Just remember Oktoberfest is typically held in September now! #munich #gothic #architecture
