📍Kazila Mountain – A Dreamy Highland Pasture Above the Clouds
Escape the city and head for the heavens! Kazila Mountain, perched at 4718m along the Sichuan–Tibet line, is a stunning stop between Litang and Yajiang. Surrounded by layers of rolling hills, vast alpine grasslands, and endless blue skies, it feels like walking through a natural watercolour painting. 🎨
💨 The air is crisp and the views are unmatched. From the viewpoint platform, you’ll feel as if you could touch the sky! Take your time strolling through the meadows, where gentle black yaks graze and Tibetan prayers flutter in the wind, adding a layer of sacred calm. 🌿🖤
⚠️ Tips:
• Park and head straight to the viewing platform – it offers the best panoramic views and photo opportunities 📸
• The entire area sits above 4000m, so walk slowly, avoid running, and watch for signs of altitude sickness
• Bring a jacket – it can get chilly even when sunny!
• Bring a tumbler if you want to refill hot water. Hot water refill at the souvenir shops is free but they charge a fee of 1 rmb for use of toilet.

📍Tianlu Shibawan | The 18 Bends of the Heavenly Road
If you love scenic drives and dramatic mountain views, this stretch along China’s National Highway 318 is unmissable! Known as Tianlu Shibawan, the road winds through the mountains with over a dozen hairpin bends — every curve feels like a ride on a real-life rollercoaster. 🎢
🌄 At the lookout point, you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of snaking roads, floating white clouds, and layers of blue peaks. It’s as if the highway connects Earth to Heaven — no wonder it’s called the “Heavenly Road”! 🌥️
✨Sunrise and sunset are reportedly magical. Golden morning light spills across the mountain ridges, while the evening sun dyes the clouds a glowing orange, reflecting beautifully on the winding path.Pity I didn’t manage to catch it as I arrived there around 9am for a pit stop
Notes:
🔹 Be extra cautious on the narrow and twisty roads — control your speed.
🔹 This place is not only a photo stop but a pit stop for you to buy snacks. Public toilets are available.
🔹 Bring warm clothes — it gets cold at higher altitudes, especially in the early morning.
🔹 Don’t forget your camera — this route is pure visual poetry. 📸 there are vendors who will take photo for you for a fee.

💜 Lavender Fields + Ancient Qiang Vibes at Yangliu Village
If you’re driving along National Road 213 near Maoxian County, make sure to stop by 杨柳村 (Yangliu Village) — it’s seriously a hidden gem!
We stumbled upon this massive lavender field nestled among dramatic mountains and under perfect blue skies. It’s 💯 free to enter, super quiet, and perfect for photography. There’s even a cute windmill structure for that fairytale vibe. Parking? Just 10 yuan. Totally worth it.
But this place is more than just a pretty purple photo op. Yangliu Village is a Qiang ethnic village with a rich history, located at 2,600m above sea level. The Qiang people have lived here for centuries, preserving traditional customs, clothing, and language. The village’s name “Yangliu” (meaning willow) comes from the local gorge filled with emerald-green willows, forming a dreamy landscape.
🌿 Beautiful scenery + ancient culture = a peaceful, photogenic detour that’s so worth it. If you’re heading to Jiuzhaigou or Huanglong, plan a stop here. June is peak bloom season!
📍杨柳村 · Near Diexi Town, Maoxian, Sichuan
