I stopped by Nanyang Cafe 南洋冰室 at Sunway Velocity for a quick bite, and the whole experience transported me straight into a retro Malaysian kopitiam, but with a modern twist.
I ordered their grilled toast with butter and kaya, paired with soft-boiled eggs and a strong cup of Nanyang kopi. The coffee was rich and aromatic, while the toast was crispy on the outside and melty inside—just the way it should be. There’s also a variety of local comfort food like prawn & wonton noodles, pork curry, and variety of fresh-from-oven buns if you want something more filling.
The crowd was a mix of young people and families, all enjoying the cosy space. Service was prompt and friendly, making it a great spot to unwind between shopping.

🍡 A Sweet Slice of the Past – Afternoon Tea at Ojima Pan-ten
While wandering around Fukushima in search of a spot for afternoon tea, we stumbled upon オジマパン店, and what a gem it turned out to be. This is one of those old-school Japanese confectionary cafés that feels like it’s been lovingly preserved in time—run by a sweet elderly couple who clearly take pride in what they do.
The moment we stepped in, we were greeted warmly by the lady boss, whose hospitality was so genuine it instantly made us feel at home. The café was quiet, charming, and filled with nostalgic touches—from the retro furniture to the slightly faded but warm decor. It really felt like stepping into someone’s cozy living room from decades past.
We sampled a few of their homemade snacks and pastries, and everything we tried was simple yet delicious in that comforting, no-frills way. As for the coffee—it was clearly made in a very local Japanese style, which leans on the lighter side. We personally prefer a richer, stronger brew, but it still paired well with the snacks.
More than just a café, this place felt like a brief time capsule, offering a quiet moment to slow down and soak in a bit of local charm. It’s not fancy, but it’s full of heart, and that made it a highlight of our afternoon.
