⛰️ Nanjing Zhongshan Scenic Area – More Than Just 392 Steps
A trip to Nanjing isn’t complete without visiting the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum (中山陵) — a site steeped in history and surrounded by nature’s quiet grandeur.
🌳 The journey starts at Bo’ai Arch (博爱坊) and continues along a tranquil tree-lined avenue (中山陵墓道), leading to the base of the 392 symbolic granite steps. The climb is part of the experience — with each step, you move closer to the heart of modern Chinese history.
At the summit lies the solemn and majestic mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, blending traditional Chinese design with modern architectural touches.
🎟️ Entry to the mausoleum is free, but if you’re exploring further, consider the Zhongshan Mountain Scenic Area combo ticket, which includes:
🏯 Meiling Palace (美龄宫) – A romantic villa once home to Soong Mei-ling, surrounded by ginkgo trees.
⛰️ Linggu Temple (灵谷寺) and the towering Linggu Pagoda (灵谷塔) – Climb to the top for a panoramic view over Purple Mountain. It’s another workout but totally worth it for the sweeping forest and skyline views!
🪦 Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum (明孝陵) – The resting place of the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, with its iconic Sacred Path lined with stone animals.
🎶 Music Stage (音乐台) – A quieter corner of the park, designed for open-air concerts.
📍Practical Tips:
• Wear good walking shoes — you’ll be climbing and walking a lot
• Bring water and snacks, or prepare to pay more at nearby vendors
• Linggu Pagoda (灵谷塔) has steep stairs, so go slow, especially after the main mausoleum climb
• Arrive early to explore multiple sites in one day
Whether you’re here for the history, the architecture, or just the greenery — Zhongshan Scenic Area has more than meets the eye.

China World Heritage No.1 Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province
#0yentripnovember #Mingxiaolingtomorrow #Jiangsu #Nanjing #Worldheritageofchina
The Ming Xiaolingtomorrow, a world heritage site in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, is the tomb of the Ming emperor, empress, concubines, etc., which can be reached from Shanghai in about 1.5 hours by high-speed rail.
The grounds are so large that it is quite difficult to walk around, so I recommend planning to spend half a day here.
It is also good to go to the neighboring Zhongshan Mausoleum (Sun Yat-sen's tomb) together, but I think you will need a lot of physical strength to go there together.

November to February 6:30 to 18:00

Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, the tomb of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang
Address: Dulongfu, south of Zijin Mountain, Xuanwu District, Nanjing, at the foot of Mount Everest
Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum is the joint burial site of Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, and his empress Ma. Because the empress was posthumously named "Xiaoci", the mausoleum was named Xiaoling. The Xiaoling Mausoleum of Ming, the first of China's Ming tombs, is magnificent and represents the highest achievement of early Ming architecture and stone carving art. It influenced the structure of imperial tombs for more than 500 years during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Opening hours: March to October 6:30-18:30;
November to February 6:30-18:00.
Tickets: RMB $65, half-price ticket RMB 35
Travel experience: There is a famous scenic spot in Nanjing called Zhongshan Scenic Area. Many historical figures are buried there, Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, is one of them. It is also the largest and most imposing mausoleum of the Ming Dynasty emperors.
What’s rare is that the tomb has never been robbed since ancient times. Don’t miss it when traveling to Nanjing!

Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum: A surprising stone statue that seems to be resurrected from 600 years of slumber
Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum is a World Heritage Site built in 1381 as a mausoleum for the founder and empress of the Ming Dynasty, and is a famous plum blossom spot. I went there on February 5th, and although it was a little early for the plum blossoms, I still enjoyed it. On the way to the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, I was overwhelmed by the stone statues of camels and elephants that were as tall as 3m. I was also surprised by the height of the walls of the tomb's "Fangcheng". I wonder how they managed to pile up all those stones. On the way back, I saw the foundation of the "Xiang Hall" and saw a crocodile? It was so impressive that it looked like it might crawl out of the stone. The sign next to it says that it is 600 years old, so please treat it with care. Access: From Muxuyuan Station on Subway Line 2
About a 3-minute walk to Park Gate 3
About an hour's walk in the park to the Ming Tower "Fangcheng"

🏯 Ming Xiaoling – The Grandest Mausoleum I’ve Ever Visited
Among all the stops in Nanjing, this was hands-down my favourite. Ming Xiaoling (明孝陵) isn’t just another tomb; it’s a masterpiece of imperial architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site with serious presence.
Set at the foot of Purple Mountain and right next to Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum, this sprawling complex is the final resting place of Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty. The scale is astonishing — over 1.7 million square meters, with construction taking 25 years and over 100,000 workers to complete.
💫 Walking along the Sacred Way (神道) — flanked by centuries-old trees and imposing stone statues of mythical creatures and ancient generals — was such a calming and almost meditative experience.
I’ve seen a number of mausoleums before, but this one set the bar. Now I know why it became the blueprint for all later Ming and Qing imperial tombs.
🧭 If you’re in Nanjing, do not miss this.

🇨🇳 I suggest that everyone who comes to Nanjing find the little ones before leaving! !
📍Everyone is familiar with the Changsheng Deer Garden located at Gate 3 of the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum. You need to pay 30 yuan per person for deer biscuits to enter the area to feed the deer. If you don’t want to go in, you can choose to watch from outside the railing, but you can’t interact.🫣
I have to say the deer are so cute. Some of them are very interactive. They not only pay attention to the snacks, but also cooperate with the photo taking. The little sika deer are very cute and not aggressive at all. I almost melted when I saw them. I highly recommend that everyone who comes to the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum must pass through the No. 3 Park. The maple leaves are really beautiful and photogenic when photographed with the original camera. ✨🍁📸
