Brooklyn Bridge: A Walk Through New York's History
There’s no better way to understand New York’s ambition than by walking the Brooklyn Bridge. I started at sunrise from the Manhattan side, joining joggers and commuters on the elevated wooden promenade as the city slowly came to life. The rhythmic click-clack of planks underfoot and the steel cables weaving overhead felt like stepping into a living industrial sculpture.
Why It’s Special?
Engineering Marvel: Completed in 1883, its Gothic arches and spiderweb cables pioneered suspension bridge design
Dual Perspectives: Skyline views of Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn’s renaissance
Hidden Details: Look for brass plaques marking the "cold join” where construction paused during funding crises
Halfway across, I paused at a cable anchorage point, touching the cold iron where immigrant workers once risked their lives. A street vendor selling water bottles pointed out the hidden bomb shelter in one pillar (built during Cold War paranoia). By the time I reached DUMBO’s cobblestone streets, the morning light had turned the towers gold a view unchanged since Whistler painted it in the 1870s.

TIMES SQUARE NEW YORK
There’s no place on earth quite like “Times Square” a sensory overload of neon, noise, and unapologetic energy. I emerged from the subway at twilight into a pulsing sea of light, where 40-story digital billboards turned night into day and crowds moved in rhythmic chaos. It’s overwhelming, exhausting, and utterly mesmerizing.
The Good, The Loud, and The Unexpected
The Steps at TKTS: The perfect perch to people-watch (and the only free seats in the area)
Midnight Moment: At 11:57pm nightly, every screen synchronizes for a 3-minute art show—my favorite quiet(ish) moment
A street vendor told me Times Square sees 360,000 pedestrians daily a number that made sense as I dodged selfie sticks and Broadway hopefuls belting show tunes. Yet beneath the commercial frenzy, history lingers: look for the New York Times building (the square’s namesake) or the art deco Brill Building where music legends once worked.

NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY
Stepping into the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building on Fifth Avenue, I was immediately humbled by the grandeur of this Beaux-Arts masterpiece. The iconic lion statues (Patience and Fortitude) stood guard as I climbed the wide marble staircase, entering a temple of knowledge that feels frozen in time yet vibrantly alive.
The Rose Main Reading Room took my breath away its 52-foot ceilings, golden chandeliers, and endless oak tables illuminated by soft natural light. I watched researchers hunched over rare manuscripts, students typing on laptops, and tourists whispering in awe—proof that this remains a working library, not just a museum.
Hidden Treasures I Discovered:
- The Map Division (free to visit) houses centuries-old atlases and hand-drawn city plans
- Original Winnie-the-Pooh stuffed animals in the Children’s Center
- Free daily tours revealing the building’s secrets (ask about the underground stacks!)
A librarian told me about the 1930s pneumatic tube system that once whisked book requests through the building now replaced by digital catalogs but preserved as a relic of analog ingenuity.

FEDERAL HALL - NEW YORK CITY
Standing on the steps of Federal Hall, I placed my hand on the same weathered stone where George Washington took the oath of office as America's first president in 1789. This unassuming building at the corner of Wall and Broad Streets holds an almost sacred place in U.S. history - though most tourists walk right past it on their way to the Charging Bull.
The current 1842 Greek Revival structure (a Customs House built on the original Federal Hall site) contains wonderful surprises:
- The actual balcony where Washington was inaugurated (recreated from historical documents)
- Free exhibits tracing Wall Street's transformation from slave market to financial capital
A park ranger told me fascinating details about how the original 1703 building served as New York's City Hall before becoming the first Capitol - its balcony witnessing everything from colonial protests to the adoption of the Bill of Rights. The soaring rotunda interior still feels monumental, with a perfect dome-topped oculus that bathes the space in heavenly light.

ZGC National Innovation Center- Beijing
Tech enthusiasts and futurists, take note this sleek, interactive exhibition space in Beijing’s “Silicon Valley” showcases China’s cutting-edge innovations, from AI and robotics to biotech and green energy. The modern, high-tech displays (many with English translations) highlight breakthroughs by Zhongguancun’s startups and tech giants like Lenovo and Baidu.
Don’t miss the robot demonstrations and VR/AR zones, where you can test futuristic gadgets firsthand. While it’s more educational than flashy, the center offers a fascinating glimpse into China’s tech ambitions. Free entry and rarely crowded.

Beijing’s Creative Playground
Once an abandoned factory complex, 798 Art Zone has transformed into Beijing’s most dynamic contemporary art hub. This sprawling industrial-chic district is a feast for the senses, where graffiti-covered brick walls, avant-garde sculptures, and cutting-edge galleries collide.
Must-see spots include:
- UCCA Center for Contemporary Art (showcasing major international exhibitions)
- Pace Beijing (for minimalist masterpieces)
- Hidden alleyways lined with quirky indie studios and hipster cafes.
The vibe is effortlessly cool—think artists cycling past Soviet-era machinery, and photo ops at every turn. Weekends buzz with pop-up markets and live performances, while weekdays offer a more laidback exploration.
Best for: Art lovers, Instagrammers, and anyone craving an offbeat Beijing experience.
Rating: 4.6/5 ★– Where Mao-era factories meet modern muse.

MY FAVORITE PLACE!
Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong is nothing short of spectacular—a dazzling blend of natural beauty and urban grandeur. As the lifeblood of the city, the harbor offers iconic views that are instantly recognizable, with the towering skyline of Hong Kong Island reflecting on the shimmering waters. I spent hours walking along the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, soaking in the panoramic vistas and watching the Star Ferries glide gracefully across the water.
The real magic happens at night, though. When the sun sets, the skyline comes alive with the Symphony of Lights, a mesmerizing light and sound show that transforms the harbor into a glittering masterpiece. The energy of the place is infectious, with locals and tourists alike gathering to capture the moment. Whether you're taking a harbor cruise, enjoying a meal at a waterfront restaurant, or simply sitting by the water, Victoria Harbour is the heart and soul of Hong Kong. It’s a must-see that will leave you in awe every time. 🌃✨

Under the sea!
My trip to the Beijing Aquarium was a splash-tastic adventure! Located near the zoo, this underwater wonderland is a must-see. The moment I stepped inside, I was surrounded by vibrant fish, graceful jellyfish, and even a few sharks that looked straight out of a movie. The highlight? The epic underwater tunnel—it felt like walking through the ocean without getting wet!
📍How to get there: Hop on Beijing Subway Line 4 and head to the Beijing Zoo Station (动物园站). Exit through Gate A, and you’re just a short walk away from the aquarium, which is right next to the zoo. Easy peasy!
The exhibits were both fun and educational, with cool facts about marine life and conservation. Sure, the crowds were a bit overwhelming, but it’s hard to complain when you’re face-to-face with a shark. Whether you’re a kid or just a kid at heart, the Beijing Aquarium is a fin-tastic way to spend the day. Dive in and enjoy! 🐠✨

The Holy Gates!
Bayon Temple in Siem Reap is one of those places that feels like stepping into a mystical world. Just a short tuk-tuk ride from the center of town, it’s nestled within the Angkor Thom complex, and the moment I arrived, I was in awe of its towering stone faces smiling down from every direction.
The temple’s most striking feature is the 200+ massive faces carved into the stone towers, each with its own unique expression. Wandering through the narrow corridors and hidden passageways, I felt like I was uncovering ancient secrets at every turn. The detailed carvings on the walls, telling stories of battles and everyday life, are incredible to see up close.
If you’re in Siem Reap, Bayon Temple is a must-visit. It’s one of the most iconic and atmospheric spots in the Angkor complex, and exploring it feels like a true adventure back in time!

Unwind and Relax in Xing Long Lake Chengdu🇨🇳
If you want to have a good day of unwinding and relaxing then Xing Long Lake is one of those places that you can do just like that. The greenery around the lake is beautiful and the area is veey clean. There is a walking and running track that runners would really appreciate as the runner's track is made of soft material which is good for their knees and heels.
LOCATION: At the end of Line 1 (SCIENCE CITY)
ACTIVITIES:
1. You can just stroll around the lake or if you're keen on exercising then you can jog/run.
2. Kayaking - I saw some people doing some water activity and the kayaks can be rented there.
3. Camping/Glamping -You can take your own tents and food and enjoy the scenery. Kids enjoy running around and flying their kites..
FOOD: There is a cafe called INDEED CAFE which serves coffee, tea, fruits and cakes.

Showa Era Vibe at a ramen museum
Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum- Part 2
Who would have thought that you could go back in time to the Showa era at this museum? Besides eating ramen, you can do a lot more activities here. Showa Street inside the museum is perfect for taking pictures. While strolling around, you will come across an ice cream shop, where you can try the famous ice cream in Hokkaido. You will also see the Dagashi-ya where you can buy sweets and toys from the Showa era. I bet Japanese people feel nostalgic whenever they step into the museum. This place is definitely for the hungry and curious.

GRAND CENTRAL STATION NEW YORK
Stepping into Grand Central's majestic Main Concourse, I was immediately enveloped by the hum of a thousand conversations bouncing off marble walls. The celestial ceiling mural, recently restored to its original 1913 brilliance, glowed softly above commuters rushing across the iconic opalescent clock– still the world's largest example of Tiffany glass.
What struck me most was how this Beaux-Arts masterpiece remains utterly functional 110 years later:
Whispering Gallery's acoustic magic still delights (stand at diagonal arches to hear secrets clear across the space)
The dining concourse offers everything from $1 oysters at the Oyster Bar to artisanal treats at the new Market Hall
Hidden tennis court on the fourth floor (book through Vanderbilt Tennis Club)
A station attendant shared that the 20-foot-wide staircase was nearly demolished in the 1970s saved only by Jackie Kennedy's preservation campaign. Now, watching golden light pour through the arched windows at golden hour, I understood why she fought so hard.

WHERE HISTORY AND FINANCE COLLIDE
Walking down Wall Street, I was struck by the weight of history in this short, narrow canyon of power. The New York Stock Exchange still commands attention with its neoclassical grandeur, though today's trading happens mostly in silent server rooms rather than on its iconic floor. A security guard told me the building's 1903 facade was designed to project stability after market panics a reminder that financial theater matters as much as numbers.
The street reveals its layers to those who look closely:
Federal Hall's 1789 balcony where Washington took the oath of office
Modern hedge fund offices disguised behind unmarked doors
The Charging Bull, now more Instagram prop than market symbol
What surprised me most was the human scale - the actual street is just seven blocks long, forcing billion-dollar decisions into intimate physical spaces. At lunchtime, junior bankers in identical blue suits swarm sandwich shops while tourists play at being Gordon Gekko.

STATEN ISLAND HERE I COME!
There’s no better free attraction in New York than the Staten Island Ferry. I caught the 6:15pm departure from Whitehall Terminal just as golden hour lit up the skyline. The second we pulled away from Manhattan, the entire deck rushed to the railings phones out, jaws slightly dropped.
That uninterrupted view of the Statue of Liberty? Even jaded New Yorkers pause for it. I loved how the ferry doesn’t even pretend to be a tourist boat commuters reading paperbacks, teens sharing AirPods, the occasional seagull brazenly eyeing your snack. The breeze smelled like salt and possibility.
Pro tip: Grab a coffee from the terminal and head to the upper deck’s rear for quieter sightseeing. The return trip at night is magic downtown’s skyscrapers turn into a glittering circuit board.

A MODERN GOLF EXPERIENCE
As someone who enjoys golf but doesn’t take it too seriously, I found Topgolf to be the perfect blend of sport and entertainment. From the moment I arrived at the Fulton County location, I was impressed by the modern facility and energetic atmosphere.
I reserved a bay with friends, and we quickly got set up with clubs and microchipped balls. The touchscreen interface made it easy to select different games—we particularly enjoyed the target-based challenges that kept things competitive but lighthearted. What surprised me most was how the technology enhanced the experience; seeing our shots tracked in real time with precise yardage added a fun, tech-driven edge to what could have been just another driving range session.
The food and drink service was seamless—our server checked in regularly without being intrusive. We ordered a mix of shareable appetizers and cocktails, all of which were better than I expected for a golf venue. During breaks, I took in the skyline views from the rooftop terrace, a nice touch that elevated the experience beyond just hitting balls.
While Topgolf isn’t a replacement for a traditional course, it’s an excellent option for socializing or practicing in a low-pressure environment. The pricing felt fair for the quality of the facilities, though I’d recommend going during off-peak hours if you prefer a quieter vibe.

Celebrating my birthday at Bara Restaurant near Liangma Bridge in Beijing was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I arrived, the sleek, modern ambiance and understated elegance of the space made me feel like I was in for something special. The staff went above and beyond to make the occasion memorable, greeting me with warm smiles and even a personalized touch to acknowledge the celebration.
The atmosphere was intimate yet vibrant, with soft lighting and a relaxed vibe that made it the perfect setting for a birthday gathering. The attention to detail in the service was impeccable—every request was met with care, and the team made sure I felt truly celebrated throughout the evening.
Located in the trendy Liangma Bridge area, Bara Restaurant is not just a dining spot but a destination for creating special moments. A Golden Ship in the Heart of Phnom Penh!
I stumbled upon this unique temple while exploring Phnom Penh. The most striking feature is the giant golden ship, which serves as the main structure. It's a sight to behold, with intricate carvings and gleaming gold.
The temple has a peaceful atmosphere, and it's a popular spot for locals to pray and make offerings. I spent some time wandering around the grounds, admiring the architecture and soaking up the serene environment.
If you're looking for something a bit different in Phnom Penh, this temple is definitely worth a visit. It's a hidden gem that offers a unique and memorable experience.

Halal Dim Sum
Halal dim sum places aren't easy to find, so bookmark this list for the next time your dim sum cravings surface!
This time follow me to try halal xiao long baos 🫣🫣🫣
The original Din Tai Fung xiao long bao (and other XLBs in the world) is typically filled with minced pork, but this halal version by Pak Din at @dinmalaysia is filled with chicken or shrimp instead.
In Malaysia, there are halal and non-halal branches of Din Tai Fung. So, make sure to head to “DIN by Din Tai Fung” which are located in Megamall Southkey Johor, Nu Sentral Mall and KLCC.
Also… don’t miss out on other Din Tai Fung’s internationally loved dishes as well! Someone commented the garlic fried rice is a must try… well I haven’t tried that one yet.

Get Ready With Me
me being me, I always find holes left on my scarves because of all the pins and brooches I use 😩
so glad I managed to find out about a pinless way to get my hijabs on point! check out this magnet 🧲 bar, or I like to call it my magnet brooch to replace those conventional pins for my scarves.
The magnet is strong so you won’t have to worry about your hijabs going out of place with the wind. They’re also strong 💪 enough even if your bag strap is over your shoulder.
I got mine from @elmodesta. Try it yourself!🤭 #tripblazers #mytripmoment
